Definitely must have butter with the jam sorry Rob. We don't use sugar in our scones here in NZ. Savoury scones are big here, Cheese scones are very popular and you spruce them up by adding ham, bacon, onion. What about making potatoe bread and soda bread? I remember Granny making this for my Granda - they lived in Co Tyrone. My mammy broke that many wooden spoons on the backs of our legs that she ended up buying a big solid plastic fecker so we lived in fear of the wooden (plastic) spoon. Well done with your honey harvest, must be great to be more self sufficient. Thanks for the inspiration!

My buddy keeps bees around his property, and he showed us that if you put your honey filled wax in a low and slow oven, then cool it, all your wax will solidify on the top. Just lift it off and the rest will be more usable honey. Fantastic honey harvest! Great job! FYI; I watch Just Alex too. 😊 Yup my British Gran would make us red currant sconce for Canada Day, that was called Dominion Day when I was young. At 56yrs, I make sconces but with black currants (gluten free) for my family in the fall. I also like butter and honey on my sconce.

Yummmmmy, scones are my thing!!! In London at mo but looking forward to making some once Im home!!!it has been awhile, you cannot beat a scone straight from the oven. Rob I'm interested to know how you developed your startersourdough. I tried it a few times during lockdown but it was a huge fail. I too suffer from stomach issues from overload of bread and thought it was the yeast. I am now keen to try spelt flour. Thanks to you and Claire for the fabulous videos. Well done to you both on all levels, your talents are at the top of best scale❤🤗🤗🤗🤗

You know what there was a huge amount of trial and error with this. There are many many good KZbin videos on how to start a starter, then create the leaven (which at the start we didn't really understand) and then the dough.. Rob was determined to get there and do didn't stop until he finally got there. Definitely worth giving it another lash 😊
@maeveskelly46864 ай бұрын
My mother used to make cheese scones sometimes for tea in the evening. She didn’t use a cutter for this but once the dough was in a round semi-flattened shape, she cut it into slices so you got triangle scones. We’d eat them straight from the range slathered in butter. I loved them so much, that’s the version of scones I make most often now. Oh and I’m with Claire on the butter/ jam front (tho I’m not a jam person unless it’s raspberry or marmalade). Put it all together, none of your faffing about Rob 😆😜

Thanks
@WestCorkWander4 ай бұрын
250g it's easier on the same weighing scales. But we needed to feed our starter for almost a week before it got good. It smelt like vinegar for 5 days and I wanted to throw it out but Rob said stick to it and it's perfect now. 🤞🤞🤞 For you!

Yes, It’s traditional to have both butter and jam with cream on top.,Claire, but to each his own. I use sour cream ,instead of milk for scones. Rob, You’re supposed to rub the butter in as little as possible to keep the scones light and fluffy. For a first try using spelt instead of flour they looked pretty good. Growing up in Cambs, UK., I did cookery in high school for 4 years. I still live to bake. 😅I made sausage rolls with my own puff pastry yesterday. Then today I-made rolled ginger cookies, enough to freeze most of the dough for another two batches, same with unbaked sausage rolls too. I pretty much always make at least double batches of many recipes and freeze for another time. I made a baked potato andd ham cream soup earlier this week and made four meals for two people. Like you both, home baking tastes fresh, you know what’s in it, and saves money for other things in life and to save. I see online that the holiday goodies are now getting in shops there, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s…. Have a good week both of you. 😊 M.

I never had a blemish or a spot as teenager.. Not one😅 ever.. True story! I must go back to using it now for the laughlines and age spots.
