I enjoyed the tour, especially the butler's pantry , pantry and kitchen. Everything seemed so well built and solid. I can't believe there wasn't anything torn up or griffitied. On another youtube channel (Greetings from Fairfield) They're working on their house that they recently bought.It's a gorgeous huge victorian I think and amongst all the videos there's one where they talk about where they found some porch lights. It's a beautiful house.You can even see the stairway inside , but it's been neglected for many years and is now probably going to be demolished. They show us a tour I think. The one you showed today is what I call a house with good bones. Thanks Agagain for the tour - I enjoyed it

So happy Jeanie is feeling better! Such a beautiful old gal! I mean the house! I would never call Jeanie an old gal...😜 It's my understanding that the building features, such as windows with 6 over 6 glass, is done in Fibonacci sequence for visual appeal. I can't believe all those fireplaces! I have the glass doorknobs in my 1919 house, but only 1 fireplace. Pretty sure my house is the blue collar version of a Craftsman. I love how much of the original house is in tact! Thanks for the awesome tour!! Loved it!

I just bought a 1925 year old 3400sqft home in a small 8500 population city in central New York. It needs a lot of work. The economy has hindered my efforts & plans, but I’m picking away at it. I’m 70 years old, .& this has been on my dream list since I was an adolescent. Long story but I have been working hard to get here. It has many of the features I wanted. I am looking forward to the economy to be restored by Kamala so I may get started in earnest on it. I love the portico entrance, on this home you’re showing. I love when the original features can be replicated when needed. I love the doors too.i love those side porticos. I have four exterior doors. I open them for gorgeous breezes. Yes! I have paneling & builtin china closet. Pocket doors. I love the info of the lathe & plaster, that’s all I knew, I’ll have to listen to your info on the rest of it a few times to remember the rest of it….my floors are a mess. Nice butlers pantry! How big is it? It looks bigger inside than out.

No there was no fire, the wood was torched befor the pillar was bricken in, this was common in 1920s in the south as termites and insects will not borrow to eat it. Its a natural way to protect wood in replacement of chemicals.

Glad Jeannie is doing better. What an interesting house! It seems to have the look of a Four-Square, but also the roof lines we see later in the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style. Many of the 1920s houses here in S. CA are Craftsman or "Sears" kit house bungalows, and of course, many, many Spanish style homes, which include a number of sub-genres. The vintage bathroom is very cool; both of ours have two-color tile wainscotting, edged with the contrasting color. I've loved glass doorknobs since I was a small child; my grandparent's 1928 Spanish style house in Los Angeles had them and I vowed I would have my own one day. There is something magical about them...and they are very easy to clean! I'm sure it was hard for you to leave behind your original 1834 house in NY, as well as your friends and neighbors there. I'm delighted to learn you have met some great people who share your passion for saving old houses, right down the street. :)

First, so happy you're up and about and looking like your usual self, Jeanie! I've thought of you all week and wondered how you were doing. 🌺 What a lovely home your friends have purchased to restore! It's going to be a beauty when it's done. And how interesting that there's a family connection to the home. It reminds me a bit of my daughter's home which was built sometime in the mid to late teens. She had asked the old couple in their 80s and was thrilled to find they had the original house plans (a trick she learned from me - you'd be surprised how many people do have them and will probably toss them after they leave the house, so I always ask and had plans for most of my houses). She researched and found the granddaughter of the man who had it built and whose mother had grown up there. She had actually written to the mother, but sadly the lady had just died a month before - her daughter said she'd have loved to see current pictures and talk about the house. The second family to own the house had boys and my daughter spoke with one who was dying to see his boyhood home so she extended an invitation and he was so happy that he brought her an original light fixture that his family had taken when they moved! She was thrilled! Most of the lights were original and she had been searching for the right light to replace in that spot! Most of the original everything was still in the house, though the family she bought from had covered many things over in the 70s! And there's a built-in cupboard missing from the living room that we think they removed. Sorry, didn't mean to run on, but I love the history of ownership of homes and my daughter picked it up, too. I'm thrilled that this house has, in some way, come full circle in the family. Happy Easter, Jeanie & Mike! 🌷🐣🌷🐇✝️🐇🌷🐣🌷
@1834RestorationHouse Жыл бұрын
Happy Easter! That's great your daughter has been able to connect with previous owners and get back an original fixture too! Sadly, the entire family who lived in our house have all passed on, but we now know who they were!

So good to see Jeanne up and about. That house reminds me so much of the first house we bought after I got out of the Navy in 1979. It was an old mill house (company housing for factory workers) in Greenwood, not far from where you are. While built in 1950, it was built using the same plans as ones built in the 1920’s. We even had a coal fireplace in the living room.

Thank you for saving that beautiful house. My husband and I bought a 100 year old cracker house in Florida which we planned on restoring . Our house we were living in got demolished by hurricane Charlie so we moved in the lil cracker house. Then wood and materials were priced outrageous, then covid came, then my husband had 2 back surgeries that ended up being worse than he was prior to the surgery. Now my middle son passed away a couple weeks ago of a heart attack at the age of 39. Financially we haven't been able to do any work on our lovely lil house. Im not giving up though. Some day i want it to look like a Cape Cod cottage since thats where i am from originally. We moved to Florida in 1987 and never left. I just feel a connection to this house. I don't know how to explain it. But you both can understand im sure😊

I cannot help wondering if the first floor bedroom was originally a porch. The windows seemed to be 6 over 6. The remainder of the windows are 6 over 1 or 3 over 1 or 2 over 1. Wonder how it is the windows are so different.

It's hard to say why the windows are different but I believe the bathroom is original.

We'll try to get some more video in the future. As you know, restoration is slow and painstaking.

GLAD TO SEE THAT JEANIE IS UP AND ABOUT. ARE THE COUPLE WHO OWN THE HOUSE DOING THE RENOVATIONS THEMSELF? THANK YOU.

Yes, the husband is working hard at it along with some hired help.
