I've always wondered who the Freehub Mag guy was! Dude your channel is awesome. I Your ability to speak so clearly and tell great stories while riding is insane. Absolutely yes I love this style of video I hope there's a part 2!

My Dude what a climb that was. That's what I call earning your decent. That mountain looks so awesome. Love your advice no lies. I've been riding for awhile now and it is always nice to hear other riders'experiences. Ride on my dude. 🤘🏻

Usually I try to trim down the climbs to make it more exciting, but I can think more clearly while climbing. This ride was 2400 ft of elevation.

Hey Spencer, I liked the video. I relate on the mindset stuff. Just turned 39 and one of my goals has become maximizing time on the trails because I just see that it is finite and I don't want to sit out injured because I didn't listen to my gut about a feature or whatever. Good riding as always.

Been riding 34 years now (in my mid 40s) totally agree with your advice. At my age I'm way more xc than the old days. It's more about longevity at this point. Still enjoy jumps and drops, just not huge sends anymore. Too much to live for.
@kevankakes7 ай бұрын
A guy once told me a long time ago, when you start jumping…if you can imagine trying to stand just in front of your bottom bracket up the lip of jumps, I feel like that is a good image on how to go up lips and not be too far back for beginners and will by default keep you in a nice position for any jump.
@SpencerAstraPOV7 ай бұрын
Wow interesting! Yeah so for a steep lip you have to be super far forward, huh?
@kevankakes7 ай бұрын
@@SpencerAstraPOV yeah, I think the idea is for jump posture if you try and stay in front of your bb you will always be pretty evenly weighted up any lip no matter how steep. And the idea of “standing” in front of your bb helps with keeping the legs and body a little more rigid than sinking in and soaking up the lip, potentially getting bucked. It’s hard to explain but in real life it works, lemme know if you can see what I mean sometime.

Hey man, I really enjoy all your videos! Especially this long format style. I was happy to see your review on the Firebird. I also downsized and got a medium. Keep up the good work, many riders appreciate it!

"hips [....] are a good enough proxy" ❤ Such an engineer's quote! :) Absolutely a great video! Working on catching up with the other "episodes"... Two things come to mind: 1) why so underrated?; and 2) where's "episode" 9? :) I'm really up there with you with the riding to ride more, for fitness, yet challenging yourself without distrusting your gut/avoid social pressure. Learned the hard way, yet, two of the most worthwhile lessons! Keep posting! :D

Want to add: loved the format, it's actually differentiating. One thing to add to the weight shifting/control advice: what's been game changing to me is shifting that weight forward when cornering, despite everything in me wanting to lean back. Keep that COG centered!

EP 9 was on an unsanctioned trail that was too fresh to post. I talked to the trail builder and he wanted to delay the release of it. I'll probably repost that one this summer. Good eye!

@@DeezerWeazer I do find that a higher bar height gives more confidence leaning forward into corners. You can spend a lifetime getting better at it, that's the fun part.

Spencer I'm pretty sure I've asked you this before and you graciously answered at that time on the FreeHub Channel. Are you still using the following setup on the trails to film videos: "Hero 7 with karma gimbal. Superview, low sharpness, and auto shutter for the woods?" Love your work!!

Yes, I was using that setup for this video! Sometimes I switch to the Hero 12 for a chin mount for convenience.

Great video! Really love that zone and trying to figure out exactly what loop you did? Did you start and end from Arroyo/Old Samish? so, Lost Lake N > Lost Lake 3 > S Lost Lake > Fragrance Lake Rd. > Cleator rd > Ridge Trail > Salal > Hush Hush > Lost Lake N? I rode the Ridge trail by accident (got a little too consumed adventuring) 35 years ago on a fully rigid, 26" Cannondale. I would love to ride the loop you did in commemoration of that debacle!
