Fair play fella, I'm in trade aswell me & misses got knocked for 100k last year put me on my ass, I'm one best in my game take pride so you do take it personal. It's a shame because it always seems to be the conmen that get genuine customers and contractors are the same stay clear of Irish firm Mac group same shit there they knocked loads of good guys yet company worth millions. Another great video , your probably one of the few to tell the realities of owning a company, one thing I would say this is a time when you can be choosy because there’s an abundance of work but in the past when works been a little bit thin on the ground you can end up taking a job on against your better judgement it’s happened to me a few times and I’ve always regretted it, anyway keep the videos coming .👍

Had a garage extension built, builder said part payments due as and when builder inspector has passed the stages so neither of us had large amounts to pay at each stage. Your right on doing due diligence and walk away if you're not happy with the terms and conditions of payments

Some high profiles are the worst , get stage payments as one goes along . We once worked on a job , where a H.P. complained on finish that the view out of the windows were not as expected , the house was built to low out of the concrete footings . IT ended up in court and the builder won , thank god . Due to him keeping records and quantities , priced and supplied .

Several years ago finished a big landscaping job on a Friday. Popped the final invoice of £15k through the letterbox on the Saturday morning only to learn that the customer had passed away Friday night. Did get paid but was a stress for a while.

great video, just I personally don't have time to do any detective job, on every customer🤣. many up front, best warranty, why do. I have to invest in same ones build🤔. like you said, if same one is shady from beginning. you most likely get in to problems.

Do a video on the dreaded ( RETENTION). I’m still owed mine they took 5% out my wage until they had £250. Didn’t even let me know when I started either. My work is 100% bang on and all the subby & his supervisor could do was sing my praises. Now I haven’t heard a peep from the since DWH had stopped building.

Great video. Got knocked at Christmas for a large amount from a big so called property developer. Amazing what a petrol can full of water and a lighter can do 😁 Three stage payments now and signed by both parties. Definitely walk away from shady guys if they don't meet at first.

Knowing about late payers or non payers would be great. I'd add them to database accessible for all the trades and next time if they need anything doing pay up front or get cowboys 😁

Hi mate, thanks for kind words. 🙏🏻 we do now yes as it’s not cost effective for us to spend time pricing now. The QS we use is not taking any more clients as he’s retired and just helps his regulars but Terry Farnham is a brickwork specific QS. Iv not used him but I’ve heard good things.

Unfortunately this happens all the time, Some big firms employ people purely to knock you for lump sums of work, You were lucky you got paid, I nw a few that got knocked, Some companies just change there name, Start again... Just go bankrupt, Think there should be new laws to stop this Checking people on Google etc is OK, until they change their names, Part of the building game,

Yep, it's been going on since day dot I'll not work for alot of companies as they are known for it, I tend to do my own work nw I used to hate pricework cos you knew they'd try to nick the last few payments off you, Go back on being paid through the wall etc I had a mate have to sell his house cos he got knocked for a big lump sum, If I work for someone new I'm very suspicious of them until I've had a few payments etc

Big Trade Builders employ large team's of QS to fight you tooth and nail for your your money, it's a blood spot for them

1/2 the total cost of the job down payment, the other half- upon completion of the job. 1/2 down normally covers material cost- so you don't get beat out of that! If the customer doesn't like that- they can find someone else to do the job!
