About Magnus- Isak was ignorant about Evan's bipolarity in the same way Magnus was about Isak's sexuality. One of the biggest themes of this show is that you should try to educate people and be kind towards ignorance instead of just brushing it off as hate/stupidity

The texts Even sent Isak at the beginning are the lyrics of Cherry Wine by Nas. That said, I think you didn't quite understand something. When Even backed off in Episode 5, it wasn't because he was having a low, but because of Isak's "I don't want crazy people in my life" line. If you watch the locker room scene again, you will catch the subtle change in Even's expression and the way he kisses Isak for the last time, as a goodbye. He goes back to Sonja because she's the safer option, Because she's with him despite his mental illness. He then realizes he likes Isak too much and that he can't stay away from him, so he takes a risk. Also, Even being straightforward is not a sign of mania, either - that's just how he is, his personality. He's only actually manic in Episode 8, where the symptoms are clearer, i.e. spending a lot of money in a suite, which can be understood as rushed thoughts and risky behavior. That someone thinks of any sign of personality as a symptom is precisely what the show is trying to eliminate. As Even can feel love for Isak because he's a person, he can also behave really extra because that's a trait of his. I hope you understand. Happy Holidays!

Ah something I should explain. I don’t know if you covered it in your review but a lot of fans were really scared when this episode came out because Even’s text was supposed to seem like a suicide text. And since it has parallels to Romeo and Juliet... well yeah. The other texts Even sent were lyrics to a Nas song :> Anyways I really enjoy your reactions and I’m really glad you’re doing the other Skam remakes as well! I know a lot of people recommend Skam France after you’re finished, but I personally think Druck is the best remake because while it changes a lot of things, it isn’t as dramatic and it really keeps the essence of the original Skam series.

Magnus is a sweetheart! Him being ignorant every now and then isn't any worse than Vilde or Isak himself who even had prejudices against his own sexuality. But this is why Skam is the best Tv show, with the most realistic characters, 'cause they all have flaws but are just trying to find their way through a very confusing time in most people's lives

I love how throughout the whole season we, the viewers, misunderstand Even so much and then in this episode all the misunderstandings punch us in the face. We think he's a player or a cheater, we think he's being shady and lying and we don't know whether to trust him or not. And then in this episode everything changes and we understand everything and our love and understanding for Even grows so much. I love it. It really shows that we don't really know what's going on with people, and that some people's actions can really be misunderstood from our perspective.

I heard the English version of O Helga Natt (the song at the end) in the radio today and felt it in my bones that you were gonna upload this You can see how Isak slowly realizes that Even's text might be a suicide note as he gets flashbacks of times when Even talked about death. I didn't realize it at first either but it's scary to imagine what could've happened if Isak hadn't found him in time..

I was tearing up before the vid even began ffs. I really love how Isak had parallels with both Sonja and his dad initially, only to end up listening to him in the end. Sonja has felt like she had to protect Even from himself for years, so after a while she starts to become controlling and feels like she knows what's best for him. Even told Isak last episode that it sometimes felt like she knew him better than he knew himself. Isak responded by saying "Only you can know what you truely feel", but then at the beginning of this episode he listens to Sonja and decides in Even's place too that Isak is a bad influence on him, even after Magnus reassures him that what they had was real. At the same time Isak's dad left his mum after her situation started getting out of hand (Isak did too a while after, both with his mum and with Even), and at the same time his dad starts connecting with his mum again, Isak rushes out to go to Even. 😭 People have probably already told you this but the whole "We should slow down" thing wasn't exactly because Even was entering a depressive period but because Isak had just told him that he felt he was better off without any mentally ill people in his life. Even felt like he was just going to hurt Isak, so he sent that text and tried going back to Sonja (which is why they kissed at the party). You can clearly see the depressive period in this episode though. First Even sends the complete lyrics to a song to Isak and later at the church he sends a suicide note(!). That's why Isak also rushed out, he started thinking about the Romeo & Juliet references Even always kept talking about, about how that story ended with a suicide and how Even said in his little movie that the greatest love stories always end in tragedy (or sth like that). Isak realized that the text from Even was a suicide note, so he rushed out to find him before it was too late.

Yes! Alex, I hope you rewatch this episode, especially the church scene at the end. It's one of the most devastating scenes I've ever watched and very likely the best of any Skam, including the remakes.

I love what you said about mental illness and the people who deal with it at the end so so much. I agree with everything you said. The first time i watched this, i thought Even was gonna commit suicide because i took his message to Isak as a suicide note. The way i cried during that whole scene, and then when Isak didn't see Even on the bench i really thought the show did it, since during the whole season there's talks about "losing something you love" and parallels to Romeo and Juliet. My heart DROPPED. I'm so glad it didn't turn out that way oh my god i would've never gotten over that. I'm not even over the way the season is already sjssjshs imagine if that happened. One more episode to go aaaah i'm so excited for it! And then i'm so excited for season 4 i love Sana's season so much! Your commentary is the best!

Too bad you got spoilers ahead :) That was a suicide sms if you ever got the Romeo & Juliet reference as most of others did when watching it real time... It was heartbreaking indeed in a good way :) And.... Merry Christmas, Gusher :)

"No more apologizing. Bitch!" - haha, I like to analyse too, so I always write too long comments, as you see! In the first scene - yes, Isak was getting texts from Even like he was getting text from his mom when she's ill, and it higlighted how Isak was always forced to be mature earlier than I think he wanted to. I think Sonja learned to handle Even's condition and "taker care" of him. I don't think she meant to control him, but felt she had to be "on guard" to protect him, and that became suffocating; and because his condition she got the habit of not always take his feelings seriously but to intepret them as temporary symptoms - and that's why she couldn't take his feelings for Isak seriously at first (plus, she didn't want to). Something like that, though I express it very badly. I know someone bipolar, and it can be a trap to see their condition as an excuse for bad behaviour, or to intepret their affection as false. Because there's no difference in feelings, just in behaviour - they can be serious and douchbags as anyone else. I like to think that Isak can "take care" of Even, but for me that's just an expression for the fact that you always - mutually - "take care" of someone you have an emotional relationship with. I'm depressed myself, so I'm used to people interpeting my feelings as just symptoms. Yes, to what you said at the end: you have to loose something to understand its value sometimes. Luckily, to just think that you lost it can work as well. I realized people's value to me several times this year because I thought I would loose them, and that can help you understand them and be more considerate to them as well. Thanks for this season and sorry for my rambling=)

I know there is still a long road ahead but you should definitely react to Skam France after finishing season 4 of the OG; might be somewhat controversial but in my opinion some aspects of the French version are even better than the OG!

yess, i'm doing all the remakes on patreon :) i did a poll over there recently for which remake i'll be doing after the OG, and currently france is winning! so it looks like france is up next 😋
