my mum had the same phobia as karen’s mum where she couldn’t leave the house but hers was a bit more extreme as she also couldn’t go downstairs 😅 it was definitely difficult i’ll say that. especially on birthdays or christmas when she’d plan to come down and we’d be all excited but in the end she could never bring herself to, but you’ve got to remember how difficult it is for those with the phobia too. my mum definitely had a lot of guilt for missing out on 5 years of our lives but around 6 years ago she left the house for the first time and now she’s dragging me around the shopping centres again almost every day 😂 it definitely gets better👍

Yeah, I also have a agoraphobia but I wasn't diagnosed at the time when I first watched the show. But I can definitely relate to Sheila, Karen's mom, in a lot of ways. My situation isn't quite as extreme as hers and we don't have all of the same symptoms...but my experience is still debilitating. The show's exploration of agoraphobia is one thing that I've always really liked. Because while yes, they did kind of play it for laughs slightly as the character herself is comedic relief on the show. They did also take it very seriously at times(a lot of media doesn't. And just sticks with playing agoraphobia off for laughs.) and they correctly showed what exposure therapy looks like and normalized that there absolutely can be setbacks that happen when you start exposure therapy that can set you back to square one. It's something that's really real and embarrassing to have happen but it's also normal. So I thought it was really cool that they added that detail into the show when they easily could have just magic pilled her agoraphobia away for the sake of the storyline as often happens in media about agoraphobia.

I can't see anyone who pointed this out, so I'll do it :) The priest is a known pedophile, so Lip and Ian used Carl as bait to blackmail the priest into doing the wedding. So what you see happening in the church is Carl defending himself by hitting the priest. It's a very small comment someone makes in a previous scene that explains it and during the wedding party when someone is recording (might be Kev, I'm not sure) he says: "Yeah, Father. Get some!" When he's talking to a child. So, that should put the priest 'kidnapping' thing to rest for you hahaha! Loved these reactions! Can't wait for more!

This show won an award for being one of the most accurate depictions of american poverty on television. I feel like part of why you dont understand some of the characters and why such horrible things are normalized is because these are things that only become normal for severely poor people in unsafe areas. When i became homeless it was such a huge culture shock and in the moment it becomes your new normal. You dont realize how fucked up it was until youre out of it

Not only do they seem ok with Frank’s abuse they are enabling his behavior by constantly taking him back. As soon as he punched Ian he should’ve been gone but they don’t actually care about the abuse at all. They are ok with the abuse and it’s fucked up.

It definitely isn’t a good thing. But when that’s all people know, sometimes that’s what happens. They don’t have any role models except for Fiona, and this is all Fiona knows of how parents act too. They’re super loyal people so they do enable Frank a bit but they really don’t know any better. Fiona didn’t even finish high school. The others are little. And Frank always just comes and goes. It’s fucked up but the show isn’t supposed to be a functional family. They’re all toxic because they come from 2 toxic parents.
