"You are not alone" I think everyone needs to hear that once in a while, especially in today's climate. So to anyone in the comments who feel alone, like no one cares, or that there is no one for you. You are not alone. Edit: RIGHT after I posted this they said the same, I'm glad we all are on the same wavelength

As someone with depression, at my worst days I often close my eyes and imagine someone actually care enough about me to give me a hug and tell me they'd be there for me. To see it happened for Even and his breath of relief.. I feel happy and sad at the same time.
@Ghilannugs
@Ghilannugs 5 жыл бұрын
@@heytheregoodle I feel you, my depression hit a new high recently and with some real life drama spiced in I really "went through it". However when I got myself out of the worst I told myself that I have people I can count on, and even just talking to them about dumb stuff helps. Sometimes a hug is needed, sometimes a deep talk and sometimes just to laugh. Make sure to remind yourself you are worth it, and deserve happiness.

I don’t know if guys realized it, because many people don’t at first, but when Isak reads the text again and he has all those flashbacks about Even and about what he read about bypolar disorder (with focus on the word ‘depression’), he’s basically slowly putting together that Even’s text could be a suicide note. That’s why he starts running. It also fits with all the Romeo and Juliet parallels, the ending with a tragedy and “the only way to have something forever is to lose it”.
@AmandaSay
@AmandaSay 5 жыл бұрын
I remember watching this scene for the first time and not understanding Isak reaction because I thought the text was just like a "I still love you I'm sorry I dragged you into this" kind of thing. I would've really liked for the message to be a little more "obvious" like maybe ending it with a goodbye or something like that so it would have been easier to understand
@kcha237
@kcha237 5 жыл бұрын
Julie Andem certainly (and very cleverly) set up the season to make you think it was going to end with a suicide by making deliberate romeo + juliet parallels. However, remember in the last episode when Even was in the hotel rambling about princess vivian and he says 'itd be funny if you thought it was a romeo and juliet reference but then it turns out it wasnt'? .... that's another hint from julie that you think she was going to do one thing with their story but it wasnt going to be what you thought it was.
@lena-ex7bv
@lena-ex7bv 5 жыл бұрын
@@AmandaSay As @kcha237 said, the point is that it wasn't what it looked like: Isak thinks it's a suicide note, but it isn't, Even wasn't actually going to committe suicide, so adding something explicit to the note wouldn't fit with the whole "ah! you thought it was a tragedy but it actually isn't." That's why when he arrives Even is walking out of the school just fine.
@AmandaSay
@AmandaSay 5 жыл бұрын
@@lena-ex7bv Ahh, see I always took it like he was actually going to kill himself but this was like his last chance, if Isak appeared then he'll know that he wasn't actually alone and wouldn't do it and if he didn't show up he would

This episode is one of my absolute favourites of the season. Tarjei's acting is absolutely outstanding here. And Magnus' speech is so important as many people think those with any type of mental struggle are "crazy", which is so not the case. I think I've seen this episode about 10 times by now.

@Dr Boom Its an offensive word. There's no reason to use it when there's a non offensive, medical term for it. When a bipolar person is manic, they are not crazy and should not be called crazy. They are manic and it should be referred to as such.

Yeah I hate how public rhetoric is often made to present people with mental illness as dangerous. You see every time there is a mass shooter, particularly on the right, they love to say that person was "just" mentally ill. Instead all too often it is about political radicalization and easy access to guns. I've suffered depression for years, but it is not like I am out of control. If I am in a bad spot I know I am and I will just avoid people.

Isaac in Norwegian is ofc Isak. 😏 And, Romeo and Juliet kiss in the pool at 21:21 min into Romeo + Juliet by Luhrmann. When the Skam scripts came out, we also learned more about why these numbers have a special meaning for Even. Lots of lovely parallels, easter egg thingies and symbols in this season. 😊😊😊

10:31 No, it´s not the Norwegian version of "Holy Night", but pretty close, it´s in Swedish actually. But I don´t blame you for not being able to tell the difference. Haven´t seen any English speaking reactors who have noticed that it´s a different language, Swedish and Norwegian are pretty similar, and it is a Norwegian guy singing, so he sings Swedish with a Norwegian accent. His name is Nils Bech, and he´s the same guy who sang "Waiting" in the trailer for Season 3, in the locker room scene with the milk, you know.

yesssss i was waiting for this. this episode is so well done with the writing, the imagery, the thematic references, the acting, the music.... it won awards in norway, and the script for this episode is kept in a museum in norway. it really was a big deal. this is for me, the real crescendo of the storyline of season 3. if you go back and watch it again, the storyline follows romeo + juliet throughout like the neons, the pool kiss, the cross with flowers.... and when isak gets the text from even, he reads it as an apology at first. when he looks at it again, he keeps remembering their times and what he read about depressive episodes, and how even said " the only way to have something you love forever, is by losing it" it slowly dawns on him that this is like a suicide note. that is why he runs out. and when he cant find it on the bench everyone is gripped by fear. you cant even imagine the chaos that came over the fans when this episode was dropped. i remember it completely crushed tumblr and everyone was freaking out thinking even was gonna commit suicide. that was a deliberate move. but if you remember, last episode when even was on his manic high and rambling on about absurd things while eating burgers at the hotel, he talk about "princess vivian!!" and how "thats the point, you think its a romeo + juliet reference when its actually a pretty woman reference" they really give so many intertwined little tidbits that, the whole picture, when you watch it again , really leaves you in awe of the art of this season, but especially this episode. like i still get teary eyed whenever i hear this version of o holy night (O Helga Natt), coz i remember the raw emotion i felt the first time i watched this. the acting was phenomenal and i felt every emotion they showed with the slightest of gestures. I'm just so glad you guys decided to watch this show, just on the basis that it seemed to have a passionate fan following, and now you get to watch this, appreciate this show as it is. Im glad.

Isak's mom had the perfect response to him coming out. But it makes me wish even more that I could have come out to my parents on my own time. At the time I had only came out on my tumblr cause of anonymity and stuff, but one day my mom took my phone and snooped around where she saw my blog description that said a pan with no plan. During my next therapy session my parents attended it with me and during an argument my mom announced it to the room. My dad kept yelling why and said I was "limiting myself"(which makes no sense) and my therapist cut his rant off saying that I had more choices and opportunities than everyone in the room combined. It was a shitshow to say the least. It's been a few years and they've gotten better but I still feel so much rage and sadness when I think about it.

I always cry my eyes out with that scene. I can't imagine the kind of shame Even is feeling and that makes the depression even worse. On of the best suttle things I love is that they don't kiss right away because he is so down that it doesn't seem possible in his mind I think. When he is more up and more manic he jumps and kisses Isak even when Isak doesn't want to right away because there in public for example. Henrik is an amazing actor (Tarjei also!) but the ways Henrik is acting with his body and eyes is just amazing! and the magnus conversation was so needed! And I love it was him who said it :)

One of the great ironies, is that Even told Isak what the plot was going to be, during the hotel scene. Everyone thought Romeo and Juliet was being played out, but in reality they were playing Pretty Woman. Even saved Isak from his internalized homophobia and Isak then saved Even from his feeling of loneliness. Also, that final scene won the Norwegian Emmy (the Gullruten) for best scene. And Isak and Even were named TV's Top Couple for 2017, as voted by fans around the world. They beat out Magnus and Alec from the much more commercially hyped Shadowhunters series.

I have had depression for years and Magnus' scene resonated with me a lot. People have a lot of odd ideas about mental illness. Everyone of us who suffer a mental illness need a Magnus character around telling other people more about the reality of mental illness. People easily trivialize it or blow it up to a bigger thing than it is. And importantly most mental illness is entirely invisible. Most of the time those people who have it seem normal to you. I know people have been very surprised when I say I suffer depression because they are used to seeing me smiling and talking quite normally. But people have to understand it is human nature to try to cover up and act normal. I worked with a guy who was transgender. He did a sex change some years after I worked with him. He seemed like totally normal guy to me. In fact I thought of him as a little bit macho. Really handyman, did carpentry, always ready to give a hand with heavy stuff etc. Then when I talk to him later through messaging and he has transitioned to a women, he tells me all the male behavior I saw was all just fake. None of it was ever normal or natural for him. He just observed other guys in detail and basically played a role every day. We never saw the real her. It was weird how we could relate to each other, despite having different problems. I played the role of a non-depressed person and he played the role of another gender than his/her own.

I know you guys got a lot of criticism on your reactions to this season, from me as well sometimes, but that's probably because it's so important and dear to many of us and there are many meaningful and deeper meanings in it that not many see at first glance but we always hope reactors do and then it's kind of disappointing when they don't. But you're just human after all and I'm glad everytime you got criticism you mentioned it in the next video and apologized, I appreciated that a lot. I really enjoyed this reaction, it's my favourite episode of season three. I don't know if you're aware that skam has remakes, but actually my favourite skam version is the german remake druck, and the og skam is only in second place, BUT this episode 9 of the original will always be my favourite episode out of all skams, no matter the season no matter the version, this is the best episode to me. The best o helga natt scene (that's the name on the song and what many people call the scene when they talk about it). No helga natt remake can beat the original. You already kinda got it but even was indeed probably suicidal at that point, the text he sends Isak while he's in church is very much a goodbye message and more than Isak running out of church only because he wants to get back with even, I think it's more about him realizing the meaning of evens message and so getting all these flashbacks in worry and running out to look for even and show him he cares. That makes this scene even more heartbreaking, meaningful and beautiful. Makes me tear up everytime. Anyways, I'm excited for your reaction to the last episode, I honestly don't know how to wait a whole week oof... I hope you react to season 4 as well! Personally I think season 4 wasnt done that well and Sana deserved much better but I still love Sana so much so I really hope you will still react to it just because she deserves getting her season reacted to too!♥️

This was a groundbreaking show in so many ways. Further to what Markéta was saying about gay characters usually being side characters or comic relief, I think this might well have been the first mainstream show that wasn't centred around a gay character from the very start to just make one the main character for a season and have that be the story. I'd never seen it done elsewhere, probably due to the worry of losing an already established audience. Plus it didn't follow the long-standing trope that if there's a gay couple in a film or show then something bad will happen to one of them, which, with all of those Romeo and Juliet references, was a hell of a relief.

The song is actually sung in Swedish, not Norwegian. Though not like Americans could tell. xD

Man, now I really do wish y’all would watch Brokeback Mountain. It’s actually a really good emotional story, though I know it’s reputation is just as the gay cowboy movie (and to be fair, it absolutely is completely centered on the struggle of gay men historically). I feel like you guys would appreciate the story though.

Marketta: Aww the Bromance. Me: *screaching* So there is a song called Bromance by Nigahiga, and someone made an edit of the boy squad/Isak, Jonas, Magnus, and Mahdi with that song, after you finish the show you should react to it, and some other crack videos that are funny called "no homo.exe" and "could be gayer" they are really funny, and while that title may sound like they are about Isak, there is some other jokes from other seasons and about other characters.

Just to let y’all know- for the gays (and I do mean myself and friends)- sending a whole song’s worth of lyrics in a series of texts meant to be really “one” text of just a song would not be considered weird.

I love Evak, but Brokeback Mountain will always be my favorite portrayal of a gay romance - flaws and all. every time I watch it, the ending always almost makes me cry (ToT). skam season 3 comes in a close second though...

@@orianezaddy1724 Exactly, a friend of mine watched it last year and she told me how incredible this show is (especially this season) so I got into it and lived it I imagine that the main reason why people are now realizing bout its existence it's cause it's not a "American show" so I takes time Just like me, people tell other people to watch it and it goes like that

I started to watch it just recently. I'm not a big fan of TV series in general and I've only started to watch this one to improve my Norwegian, but, after several episodes, I realized that I actually love the series.

1:49 angry at us but still saying he is gay like 30 seconds before that xD It is so anoying because bi/pansexual isn't taking very seriously even inside the lgbtq+ community sometimes.
