Welcome back, today we discuss the basics of the Orders Phase. This is the crucial part of each of your turns where you allocate your SAGA dice to various actions you either want to, or foresee happening during your turn.

Many games use cards but I REALLY like the battle board concept because its easier to keep all your options open to you during the game! That is a BRILLIANT game mechanic and I LOVE IT!!!!

Yer'man said it all, 'It is a bit like Chess'. It is even more like Chess than he alludes, because not only do you have to think about the current turn, but about the next one and how many dice to leave on abilities in the opponent's turn.

Very interesting! The uncertainty of what you actually get to do would make for a fun game. And I like the forward thinking aspect. Unusual, but seems like it would be real good. Sweet vid again, can't wait to see some more. Thanks for sharing.

Another great video, The only thing I think you missed in the video and it is a key rule; is the maximum number of Saga dice you can roll at the start of your orders phase is 6. So even if you have a warlord and 5 other point scoring units you can still only 6 dice at the start of your orders phase, but as the number of dice you roll is worked out each turn it means you could lose a unit and still roll 6 dice.

Yeah, I did miss that one - it was in the back of my mind but I wasn't completely sure so didn't mention it - but you're right, it is a key rule! I also did not mention that Levies units do not generate SAGA dice!

The Normans look like a good force - heavy focus (in terms of SAGA abilities) towards mounted troops, and archers. I picked up a box of plastic Normans a few weeks ago that I am yet to do anything with!

I'll discuss the expansions a little later, all they do is add new factions - no extra rules, aside from the special rules associated with the factions each expansion introduces.

You can only ever have a maximum of 8 dice, regardless if you have abilities that would give you more. Example: in your force you have a warlord and three units - giving you 5 dice in your pool (plus 3 not yet allocated). You spend one dice to use an ability, that dice is discarded (cannot be used again), so you have 4 in your pool (and still 3 remaining), that ability gives you 5 more dice to use .. BUT, you only have 3 unallocated, so only roll 3 more, not 5 ... does that make sense?

Hrmmmm "really cheap" ... hrmmm, not sure. I'd suggest looking at the various plastic boxes available from Gripping Beast, Warlord Games, Wargames Factory ... all these companies produce hard plastic miniature boxes with a good number of figures at good prices. For my Saxons - I bought a box of Saxons Thegns, and recently a box of Unarmoured Warriors - total cost AUD$60, gives me enough figures for 2 saxon forces - which I can always convert a little and play them as something else.

Hey I love the videos and thanks for making them but I have one problem, in the main rule book there's an example of an orders phase an in it the player uses more than 8 dice simply not at once, but in your video you say that's wrong

Thanks for the videos on SAGA, they are much appreciated! I am just about to start up and try and get a few of my (rpg and/or Warhammmer) mates into some SAGA gaming. I am going to get a Viking starter set from GB, but I am quite uncertain about getting either the plastic or the metal figures. Anyone got any recommendations concerning that?
@RubbishInRubbishOut8 жыл бұрын
You can make quite a lot of figures from the plastic GB box set, it's very versatile ... and cheap!

if you discard a dice, does it go back into the pool of dice you can roll, or does it become unusable? also, if you activate an ability that lets your roll three more dice, but you only have two, do you roll the remaining two, or none at all?
@RubbishInRubbishOut11 жыл бұрын
Simply answers = once you use a dice, it become unusable. An ability that lets you roll 3 dice, but you only have 2 .. you only roll 2.
