A 20 year renovation journey .
A passion for chateaux in France in need of renovation and restoring / bringing buildings back to life .
What started with a trip with Barbara , Peter & Edd as a dream to buy a place for the holidays for the family ( There were 4 kids in total Edd is the youngest ) turned into buying a massive chateau +2500m2 and a 400m2 house close to it ...
To renovate and restore the chateau wasn't easy but bit by bit with help from friends and family the 1st renovation stage was done ... however it had to be self sufficient and and pay for for its own work ... as there was a lot to be done
Bit by bit by doing it themselves with some help as the kids came to help more work was done .... so any money that came in along with anything Peter & Barbara had was used to do up the place ... and the chateau was bit by bit being taken to its former glory .
Edd was back and forth in the Uk but started living full time in France back in 2005 to take care of the chateau and do more work .
I started here in early 2007 ...
However letting the chateau out in season / summer meant the family couldn't come as often ...
So the renovation journey for la maison du chateau Lagorce or the Dez Rez started in 2015 and bit by bit we did more work ...
We are doing some even now when we can ... at the same time trying to do work in our own place .
The passion for renovation got transmitted from Peter & Barbara to Edd and myself which have been part of this journey for over 14 years now :)

Anna your lovely mother-in-law has absolute taste. Oh My Stars everything she buys is so beautiful & unique. Her decorating skills are second to none. Is there no end to her talents?. Love your father-in Law he looks so relaxed even though he works as hard restoring & building. Two amazing people. the chateau is stunning and everything sits well inside. By this i mean for example those lovely light fittings they hang at just the right height with the backdrop behind of the iron railing that matches it perfectly as if they were made at the same time. the other fitments are in reasonably good condition and i am sure Barbara can breath magic on them . Eds parents have the magic touch , everywhere so stunningly and lovingly restored and i understand it would have been hours and hours and months and months and years of hard work

Hello ED & Anna, Sorry for the poverty of my vocabulary, but I’m going to try to express myself the best possible one in your Shakespearian language... I am called L.P, I was born with the castle Lagorce 55 years ago and I was baptized in its Chapel (small building for Christian worship). My father (N.P) was responsible (1960 to 1968) for the viticulture and the vinification to the castle for the owners Mister and Mrs BAUDIER, the Marcel BAUDIER’s parents. After my father it was my uncle (A.P) who succeeded to him until 1989 (year of his death). Part of my Italian family lived within the castle (my parents, my grandparents my uncle and my aunts) and a Moroccan family lived there too. Everyone worked for Mr BAUDIER Grandfather. My mother worked with the gathering of vegetables in the large greenhouse which exported with the international one. This greenhouse was localised in against-low castle and also belonged to BAUDIER family. Many people living at the village of Langoiran worked with the greenhouse. When I was baby Mrs BAUDIER (Marcel’s mother) was my nanny, she pampered me while my parents worked. She adored me. She had offered to me for my baptism a gold medal which I preciously keep since always. Later when I was taller I played everywhere in the castle with the Moroccan children. One built huts in the forests and one was going all to bathe in the large swimming pool in bottom of the castle. I also remember the cattle sheds which were close to the entry of the castle (now one sees a building : the house of the castle Lagorce - La Maison Du Château Lagorce - and a swimming pool, on your videos). In the cattle sheds there were many beef animals and pigs, and outside there was a hen house, with ducks, turkeys and rabbits. Sometimes my father (former butcher) killed the pig for the families of the castle and distributed the meat to everyone. Me when I intended to shout the pig I quickly left to hide me. The way close to the house of the Lagorce castle was used with the plays as game of bowls. All my uncles my father and my grandfather and their friends played the Sundays afternoon Moreover, every week there was a small truck of grocer (Mr. PRIVAT) who came to park himself in the middle of the court of the castle and all the families came to make their purchases. I lived very beautiful years over there and I particularly adored the period of the grape harvest with all his perfumes. I played with the Moroccan children (Nordine, Yaya, Zoulira… what they has become for 45 years?) to crush the grape in the tanks with our small feet. Many things were restored thanks to you, but I recognize places still so much… for example the last terrace in bottom of the castle where two white ways cross (with a circle in the medium) it was the garden of potatoes and vegetables of all the families ! Thank you very much to have given a second life to this splendid castle, which will remain to engrave in my heart. LP Post sriptum : I kept in memories three white wine bottles (1982-1988-1990) of the Lagorce castle.

WOW "soda pop" what an amazing incite into your / everyones life at Lagorce over that period in its history.... your descriptive memories took me there instantly and could imagine every scene you are describing. When we bought the chateau I met the Marocain couple that were still living there, but all the kids had moved on, when we moved in everyone that was living at Lagorce were either family or paid off to move out, and so we were alone at Lagorce from 2003. Anna and Ed… when I see all the jobs your family has done I am amazed! You are the David Copperfield of restoration and novelty! The French government should honor you and all those like you who give a second life to what is most dear in a country steeped in history: the historical heritage. When I see your children smiling at life in this castle, I see myself decades ago. When I watch your videos I sometimes have tears in my eyes to rediscover the shade of the great oak, to remember the scent of the flowers and the grape harvest, the light of the walls of the castle which dazzles you under the sun’s rays, the freshness of the rooms and the long corridors, and the happiness of living magical moments that will be forever etched in my memory and those of your children. From the pictures I think you reside exactly in the part of the castle where my family was. It’s a satisfaction for me. My grandparents had 9 children and a lot of small children… and when everyone gathered to celebrate Christmas on December 25th, the walls resounded with our songs! That is a lovely fireplace and to get the best out of it I would want to place it in the center. Such a beautiful Maison. So impressed with the work and the details, esp. the exterior insulation in the upper room (mezzanine?). Edd mentioned it in passing and I replayed it several times because I was so impressed. The kitchen is magnificent; that's a cook's kitchen! I love the electric outlets in such easily available spots. And, the alternating colors on the ceilings is a surprise; that decorating aspect draws attention up to the height of the room. It's like a cathedral to food and more than a kitchen. I admire Barbara to the Nth degree for her clarity of vision and risk-taking. Blending antiques with modern design is a challenge for many designers. I've worked with a few who want to paint everything instead of achieving that balance. This channel is one of my favorites. Thank you.

Beautiful furniture and so many unique pieces. Amazed by the size of all the rooms. Nowadays new houses and apartments have such super small Ving spaces / rooms, you need to get out of the space to be able to change your mind... 😅. Ed's parents started the rescue process, but I can see your love for the chateau is equal and you are the right people to take the chateau to the next generation. Thank you for sharing.
