Appreciate these videos. You really help break down tasks into achievable projects that have previously intimidated me. Always a treat to hear this accent here in the American South (South Carolina). Giveaway would be a nice help to my own endless FJ40 project. Thanks!

G'day Ben, great to hear that I have support from the south of the US of A. Yep the project do feel unless, but is great to look back at how much has been achieved instead of looking at how much has to be done.

I second that. I don't if that was mentioned but I always see you tacking on between clamps and few scenes later the weld is continues. I understand it's a series of short welds in different places around the piece?

I also have the rear end of a FJ40 rusted out and whilst I make my own panels your guidance and step by step vids are great. Good on you for taking the time to put this together and guiding people so that they have a crack themselves. I would point out that mistakes will be made and mistakes can be fixed. Just don't expect the job to be perfect on the first attempt.

nice job buddy 👍 I am learning how to weld and hopefully I don’t burn through all the panels.

Great to hear your having a go, use some scrap steel the same thickness of what you wish to welding on, and use it to set up and practice on. I have no doubt you will get it right!

I know that this might go against the restoration ethos, but surely there is a modification that you can make now to stop the rear quarters rusting in the future. Maybe some alterations to the panel work inside the rear guard. Have you thought of doing that?
@40ChannelCruiser5 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, you can buy fibreglass panels and tubs which will never rust. (But I'm not a fan but I have also have no experience with them) I do like the steel as it is what am used to working with and in the U.S you can buy aluminium panels and Tubs. I have primed and painted in the inside so hopefully this will protect the steel for the next 40 years.
@theacreelife5 жыл бұрын
40 Channel Yeah I have seen those alloy tubs and am not a fan. Same with fibreglass. I have often thought that I would want to modify under those rear arches to stop future problems.
