Guess I'll continue to watch as you complete your first layout. To fix sand, dirt or other scenic materials, first mist it with isopropol alcohol to release surface tension, then drip a mixture of 50/50 Elmer's glue & water to secure it in place. Cheers from eastern TN

Ken, the rock wall looks FANTASTIC!. The water feature is also going to look GREAT when you have it finished. For the sand, I might suggest Taking some 70% rubbing alcohol and spaying it on the sand to reduce surface tension and then using a 50/50 mixture of white glue and water applied with a spray bottle or eye dropper to fasten the sand firmly in place. It will dry to a clear matte finish, and firmly fasten the sand in place.

I saw a TV special about Rod Stewart's (musician) love for trains. He built an entire city in a huge room of his mansion. It was spectacular. I love how your face lights up while working on this. It's coming along fantastic, and I'm not even a train fanatic. Be healthy, stay safe and many blessings, Morgan from Colorado. PS are you going too have any mountains, like Pike's Peak? Unfortunately I see a potential problem for you. You screwed down the second level before you laid road bed under it. Laying roadbed and fastening track is going to be hard. I understand the materials you're using and it's your first build. So, please take this as not a criticism but a tip. Use more styrofoam. much lighter, easier to shape and sound deadening. @@Kens265 real trains have a holding tank that holds this super fine sand. (hundreds of pounds) more fine than beach sand. when trains go in wheel slip from rain, snow, or just a heavy load, they shoot out sand on the rail tracks for traction. look at a locomotive right behind the wheels you will see a tube looking thing at an angle. that's where the sand comes out.
