The harmonies!! Very few ever did it better than The Boys with their magical voices.

On first song the rhythm that comes after the first notes is unexpected. It's evident that George long before becoming interested in the Eastern beliefs, was already showing signs of his future style and lyrics, and yes, he had the most exotic accent of all, both spoken and sung. Second song very good as well especially the harmonies, and those piano notes are amazing.

He became interested in indian culture and music I think exactly that year..so not long before. But you are right of course.

"Tell Me What You See" is another one of Paul's underappreciated gems. Great reaction, Luke!

Great observations of these two songs. I like "I like you too much" more than "Tell me what you see." At least musically. But I agree that the lyrics could indicate a dysfunctional relationship in "I like you too much."

These songs were never on the USA version of the Help Album. They were on the previous USA Capital label [owned by EMI, which also owned Parlophone label] album The Beatles' VI album. On the album was the single Eight Days a Week and the flip side to the single Ticket to Ride called Yes It Is [which I think is a really cool vocal harmony thing they did[with George playing guitar with a new fangled thing called a volume pedal]. Ticket to Ride was a successful #1 single in the USA in April/May 1965, BEFORE the release of the Help movie later that summer, but the Ticket to Ride song was a big part of the movie of course. Once again, we never heard or saw the British version of the Help Album until much later in the 1970's. We would have PREFERRED the British version, believe me, because on our version there was only 7 songs from the movie and all the rest was movie soundtrack orchestra parts. Although they were interesting...we got gipped out of a full album of Beatles songs.

Tell Me What You See gets a lot of criticism, because there's really no bridge. It doesn't change much. But it is interesting how Paul sings a line or two solo, and the John sings the last line before the chorus. If you can't tell the difference between their voices, you would never know. That's how great their vocals are.

ALL of their LP tracks were played on AM radio. Typically their LPS became #1 on BOTH LP and SINGLES charts.

And to think these 2 songs were not on HELP when it was first released. Side Two was movie soundtrack instrumental themes. Yeah. Had to be there.

Nope: the USA Capital records version had the 7 songs from the movie, and the movie orchestra soundtrack but were not on opposite sides, they interspersed together. The USA version had the movie soundtrack and the songs from the movie, about 7of them. At the same time the British Album had NO movie soundtrack and 7 more songs. So what you have is two versions of the HELP album: Parlophone British version, and the American Capital records version. the Capital records versions is still the same , they never changed anything unless they issued CD decades later that I don't know about. I lived all this history...THE EMI corporation owned both labels...but the American Capital records bigwigs knew how to market the USA and squeeze it for all it was worth.

George evolved into a great songwriter and admitted that John and Paul were the reason he eventually took it seriously.

This is where the EMI and Capitol versions of this album fully diverge, and Capitol's blood-sucking greed really shows its ugly face (although given how they handled the Beach Boys it shouldn't have come as a big surprise). Instrumental music was in place of these on the Capitol version, with both songs shunted to the Beatles VI album which came out a full *6 weeks before* the EMI version of Help!. But what would you expect from a label that released 4 albums in the same space that EMI released 2? Re: the songs, George had two recorded during these sessions, so this is the real start of his residency as a Beatles songwriter. Paul's song is better, but I never dislike hearing "You Like Me Too Much". The shift into the bridge is great, and with those jazzy changes back to the verse it's pretty good writing for '65.

Capitol did know how to arket for the United States. But let's call it all "greed". And the repetition of songs in more than one LP meant MORE royalties for the songwriters.

@yes_head I actually am GLAD that the instrumentals from the movie were included since the U.S. release was a SOUNDTRACK album, which means ALL the music you heard IN the movie. I MISS hearing the James Bond music at the start of "HELP!" on the U.S. release and I LOVE LOVE the instrumental version of "AND I LOVE HER" particularly.....it is GORGEOUS. I have the UK release too, so for me I have the BEST Of BOTH worlds! LOL

@@patticrichton1135 The pseudo-sophisticated love to bash the US LPs. In reality, it was the US that learned of "The Beatles" from the US LPs -- there were no imports. And for those who grew up with them, there is much to appreciate about them. I still remember how amazing-sounding was "Beatles '65".
