I would love to see Aivars make it to the finals this year. I think he should do well in the heats and agree that he probably won't win the group, but I can see him being #2 if he's able to come to the competition healthy. My only fear is that if he has to go up against a taller athlete in the stone-off, he might be at a disadvantage and miss the finals. He's definitely a good stone lifter, but when it comes to rep'ing that last stone, I feel like the shorter athletes fatigue faster, having to lift the stone proportionally higher-up on their body (higher angle) to clear the bar. I'm not implying Aivars is short 😅, but, you know, going up against some of the 6'4" - 6'8" guys in the stone-off is tough -- one of the reasons I don't particularly care for the stone off and would rather just see a proper stone run for the entire group, or a larger final (!!!), or just taking the top 2 athletes (sans the stone off) from the heats. It would be interesting to look at the stone-off, historically, to see what proportion of the stone-offs was won by the taller athlete.

Aivars is kinda underrated in wsm. One thing for sure for him is to make sure he get that "right heat group", at least dont get the stone off in between Tom Stoltman or Maxime no more .. or Luke Stoltman xd. @Pile_of_carbon2 жыл бұрын
@@ivanhajko2660 I see your point. The dose is always the important bit. Strictly speaking though smoking and drinking can't be compared on a 1:1 basis since the human body can process small amounts of alcohol with no ill effect whereas there is no "safe" amount of smoking, it always causes some lasting damage.
@ivanhajko26602 жыл бұрын
@@Pile_of_carbon I do not promote smoking nor drinking and you may be correct. It is just reaction to people "who's mind is blown.." :) Considering that at this level probably the "healthy part", the training, the eating and so on is more likely more damaging to their bodies, I think the effects from occasional smoking are not that important. Our industrial age unfortunately exposes us to too many poisons anyway.
