Fantastic place to anchor and explore. Your watering hole host was left uncomfortable but when you pin point the timing its obvious why... Ive just been watching Ant and Cid... 🤞🏼 he behaves himself for a while hes got a lot of healing to go through. Theres a couple of young UK financially challenged, sailing channels heading your way and looking for places to anchor and explore and possibly overwinter. Chasing currents 😁 and Wildings sailing 😎 on their old monohull and Ketch Cat respectively..they are both great couples and eager to learn as they go, living the life while they can on older boats they've sorted and sailed all the way themselves. 🧙♂️🇬🇧⛵ I know Ant keeps an eye on them 😉

If you call in to Datca on your way back, I’d recommend a fabulous restaurant there called Eski Meyhane. It’s a little away from the tourist beachside places and looks a bit more subdued but don’t let that put you off. It was really next level food. Also very reasonable and the Tahini Soufflé dessert which sounds a bit weird was one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten in my life. So give it a whirl if you’re in the area.

Thanks for the video, some nice shots there, and it certainly got me looking at the feasibility of Kas and Kekova... I like the idea of the water-borne re-provisioning and meals service..! Yes, you're right to avoid tying-off your long-line directly to the rocks and the chafe would be horrendous; one other solution (other than chain) is to retain a couple of lengths of the SS next time you replace the standing rigging, and fitted with eyes they can be a bit easier to handle than chain. How long with you be in Greece..? We're heading to the Ionian for our late summer charter at the end of September, but that might be getting close to your 90-day limited... Anyway, fair winds.

Hello Both! Firstly just have to say that both my wife and I really enjoy your channel! The quality of both the content and photography...well It didn't take long to work out that you were (are?) both professionals in those fields :-)! But the reason for the comment is to ask if, since you are planning to be going through the Corinth Canal are planning on being in the Southern Ionian the summer?
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, thanks for the kind comment. Yes we are planning on getting to the Ionian by September and working a]our way up to Montenegro where we are wintering this year. It seems the Corinth opened yesterday and then closed 3 hours later after another landslip though! So we might have to go the long way around again.

@@svfairisle ah that’s a shame. We’ll be there mid-August for our annual flotilla / bareboat holiday. I’d have loved to have had a chat over a few beers. @@phil3921 well you never know we may get there early, but tell your wife you have to imagine you’re not on a charter boat, which let’s face it is like camping for a week with plastic glasses and none of your stuff. Get the right boat and you have your home with you, it makes all the difference.

2:46 Is there a reason you and the cat are anchored that close together? Kas looks stunning.
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
They just chose to come and anchor there. You’re right they had no need to be so close there was plenty of room further along but it’s quite normal out here to stern tie so close your aft lines are overlapping so no one thinks much of it.

Unless they have extended the marina breakwater, we can say from experience ten years ago, that the marina is not a good place to be in a Westerly storm; waves breaking over the pontoons and, if you were on the windward side of the pontoon, dragging moorings.
@jeffmayart2 жыл бұрын
can you elaborate on your webbing used in the video to shore tie, curious as to why you might choose this over 3 strand or any other rope, and maybe its alternate benefits .. thanks, really enjoying your videos...
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
I’m actually just about to make the next Anchoring video which will focus on stern tying since that’s what we do 90% of the time out here and I know a lot of people are hesitant of doing it. So I’ll go into detail there but basically you need two stern lines and they need to be the best part of 100m long so webbing on a reel is definitely the best way to go. That amount of 3strand has to be on a roller to not get in a mess and that’s really bulky.
@jeffmayart2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply, I just bout a nor sea 27 and space is at a premium…trying to think up a good set up for stern anchor setup
@clivestainlesssteelwomble76652 жыл бұрын
@@jeffmayart A drum of the loading bed strap like that takes up a lot less space and weighs a lot less when wet than rope I would suggest. As they use a run of anchor chain round the rocks and keep it under tension then chafing risk is minimised. The two inch stuff is pretty strong in tension ive used it for towing heavy cars...the colour effects the UV stability as with most manmade plastics.
