Before the Beatles, nobody EVER sounded the way they did. It was entirely new, literally a revolution in popular music. After the Beatles became so hugely popular, other bands tried their best to sound like them, and some managed to do so a few times (Dave Clark Five, for example). But then the Beatles began changing, going in whole new directions, and other bands had to work to keep up with them, which wasn't easy!

The fact that you are considering also their many singles released, will allow you to get immerse more and more each time in this rabbit hole which never disappoints, this IS actually a complete journey and let me thank you for that, you're the only reactor on YT giving due appreciation and dedication to the band that paved the way for the coming bands through the years.

I cannot describe the flood of warm feelings that I feel when these songs enter my heart and soul through my ears. It’s just a visceral reaction and I love it. It’s just amazing. That’s John Lennon playing harmonica. I love watching younger people experience and appreciate their genius. “If I Fell” is a must. 🌺✌️

I have been volunteering at a large animal shelter for 13 years now, rehabilitating abused and neglected dogs. Some have been so terrorized by previous owners that they collapse shaking and whimpering in a corner at the sound of their own name. It takes months of daily work for them to even begin to trust you. But one thing that would sooth them was when I would just sit in their kennel, and I would softly, gently, and slowly sing "I'll Get You" to them. It's actually a lovely melody and the sentiment behind the words is positive. I'd sit with a terrified dog who had never felt a kind touch in her life and quietly sing to her or him, "Imagine I'm in love with you, It's easy cause I know..." "There's gonna be a time when you're gonna change your mind ..." you know, like that. Animals are naturally very drawn to music and just sitting there doing this early in the process was actually very beneficial to them. I just wanted to throw that out there if nobody minds. It just happens to be my own special memory about this song. Cheers!

Great that you are really doing ALL of them. I hope the videos don't get blocked. I did the same thing (listening to all songs by The Beatles in chronological order) and started about a year ago. Now I'm in love with their music and I think I will be forever :) I started during a time where a lot of things changed in my life, so now their songs (especially these early ones) give me nostalgic feelings as well. But overall: Trust me, there are a lot of AMAZING songs still to come that you might have never heard :)

This is also a good example of their mastery of writing middle eights in popular music. Here, they have taken rock-and-roll, preserved its rhythm and blues basics, added a middle eight to the verse-chorus repeat structure, and did this with a love ballad. No one did anything like this before, certainly not this well.

Our generation was so lucky to be around at the time of the early Beatles. I was 13 at the time. Their B sides were always as good and sometimes better than their A sides. Don't forget George contributed to the harmonies as well. There were a lot of wonderful 3 part harmonies going on in these days. As usual a great reaction and analysis Luke. You are proving that their music will go on for years to come yet as it continues to be enjoyed by each passing generation.

I always heard (since 1964) that "Please Please Me" was their first no. 1 in the UK (?) I always felt that "Thank You Girl" was a sort of thank you to us female fans back in their early days. I think I heard Paul say in an interview a few years ago, that it was exactly what I thought it was. I have LOVED "Thank You Girl" and "I'll GET YOU" since I bought those singles back in early '64 when I was 17. In fact a tribute band that I have known for years have actually done a melody of these two songs, seamlessly segued into the other. When the last "oh, oh, oh" at the end of "Thank You Girl" they then go directly into the " Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah" which begins "I'll Get You" and then continue with that song. Those two songs sound SO GREAT together as a medley. Thank YOU, LUKE for your brilliant reactions and appreciation for the Beatles early songs that are so special to us "First Generation Fans" and how truly great they were and still are. SO many reactors ignore them, diss them or actually say they won't bother listening to them. KEEP GOING LUKE!!

There are other "harmonica songs" like I Should have Known Better, Little Child, [with somewhat longer solo in the middle], Please Please Me [at the beginning], Love Me Do, There's a Place [the beginning], and even later on Rocky Raccoon.

I haven't heard I'll get you in the end in decades and yet as it was unfolding, I could hear every note, every vocal Nuance, everything it was going to happen just a split second before it was happening and it felt so good. That means when I was a kid, this really reached out to my Young musician mind and just grabbed me.

From Me to You. I used to take the New Musical Express in the early sixties and they had a readers letters column called From You to Us in which they published readers letters. The story goes thay the Beatles saw this column and based this song on the column title. Anyway that's what the paper claimed!

"I'll Get You" featured perhaps the first use of the word "imagine" in a John song. That motif would recur a few tines before John eventually turned it into the theme of his most famous song.

It's fun to see a new generation learn how great they were. However, it will be really hard for you to understand the full significance of what you're hearing. From your point of view, it's really good music, but when we first heard it, it was cutting edge rock. Also, their impact on western culture is incalculable. If you want some idea, watch a movie from 1963 or earlier, then watch one from 1968 or later. They changed the world's culture.

Yup, this ties up their earliest releases, and each features the harmonica. Following the successes of "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me" George Martin and Norman Smith actually pushed for them to feature the harmonica in their singles to create a common signature element. Of course they played along with that direction to a point, but dropped it as quickly as they could because they hated repeating themselves. IMO "From Me To You" is inferior to "Please Please Me", although for the period it was a safe, dependable single and everyone knew it. And they still managed to give it an unexpected ending with that minor chord. The stereo mix for "Thank You Girl", originally released on the U.S. Capitol LP and updated for the Past Masters CD release, has a slightly different ending than the original UK mono version.

In the US we heard a different ending on "Thank You Girl" than the version found on the UK pressing. I prefer it because, to me, it is more upbeat and interesting. It's also what I heard when I was young, so that may have some effect on my feelings. It's hard to find that version on KZbin, but I did find a video with a take of the song from a recording session that is not the final version, but it is very close and captures the sound. There are actually two takes on the video, but they may be the same one, I didn't listen closely as I was only interested in finding the US outro. 🙂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53JY4Sdm6mJkLc

You're right. There are quite a few little changes between Beatle UK and US pressings on some songs. The UK pressings are the way the Beatles intended themselves to be heard by people.

@@NGT-eb2oy The main other one that jumped out at me was the false start on ‘I’m Looking Through You’ on the US ‘Rubber Soul’ album. When I bought it way back in 1965 I thought it sounded like a mistake but assumed it was intentional. When I purchased the newly released 1987 CD of the album I noticed that the false start was missing.

@@dennydowling2169 thank you for bringing that up!! I felt the same way when the 1987 CD came out and the false start was MISSING! I STILL prefer the "false start" on "I'm Looking Through You" on our U.S. "Rubber Soul" album. I think it introduces the song in a way, instead of just starting it "cold" like the UK pressing.
