We saved 2 HQ holdens in pervious episodes and this one we got running and driving but the motor was smoking hard. In this episode we've swapped in a fresh motor and hit the highway after more than 20yrs parked.
SO WHAT IS BACKSHED ALL ABOUT ?
WE ARE ALL ABOUT SAVING OLD CLASSIC CARS AND MODIFIYING SOME ALONG THE WAY TOO.
WE LOVE THE CLASSIC RESCUE , FIRST WASH ,FIRST START IN YEARS TYPE OF THING, GETTING OLD JUNK RUNNING AND DRIVING THEN PUT BACK ON THE ROAD AFTER YEARS OF BEING LEFT TO ROT IS WHAT WE DO.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOUR INTO FORD , HOLDEN , CHEVY , BIG BLOCK SMALL BLOCK OR ANYTHING IN BETWEEN WE MIGHT HAVE A VIDEO FOR YOU TO WATCH. IVE HAVE AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF CARS INCLUDING XB COUPE , XY FACLON GT , EH HOLDEN , F100 , VB COMMODORE , HQ SEDAN AND WAGON , CORTINA , VALIANT AND SO MANY MORE SO THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. IN ON OF OUR VIDEOS I PRETTY MUCH WENT TO HEAVEN FINDING A WRECKING YARD / JUNKARD WHERE THERE WAS EVERYTHING YOU COULD DREAM OF INCLUDING A MONARO , CHARGER , VALIANT PACER , A FALCON COUPE , TORANA , CADILLAC , SOME CHEVY'S EVEN SOME JDM CARS LIKE DATSUN , NISSAN SKYLINE , MITSUBISHI SCORPION BUT IT DIDN'T STOP THERE EVEN 4X4 LIKE A HJ 45 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER AND A 60 SERIES WAGON . I REALLY HAVE NO BIAS I LOVE RESCUING THEM ALL SO DO STICK AROUND AS YOUR BOUND TO SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE. CHEERS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WATCH . MICK

My dad used to drive the same series (1) if HQ Holden Kingswood station wagon as that one of yours except that it had the Tri Matic automatic transmission fitted. The original 202 engine ended up sitting in the back of the shed after it lost power then hd gave it to an old workmate of his who was into restoring the old Holdens & Chevs since he was a spray painter/panel beater by trade,he didn't really want the engine because he would prefer to stick the old grey 138 engine back into an FC Holden he restored. The engine that replaced the 202 engine was out of my uncles old HQ Kingswood sedan,it was the 173 cubic inch engine, once that wore out he got another 202 engine for mates rates ($0)off another workmate & bolted it in. Once that one wore out he bought another 202 cubic inch engine from our local wreckers for $500 AUD, there was a 186 engine sitting there & no one was there for him to ask about it & he was on his way to work on afternoon shift so he couldn't wait for that engine. He would've been better off I think because he had trouble with that engine including a blown cylinder head gasket then thr dreaded cylinder number 5 issue happened where it ran lean on that cylinder,the connecting rod snapped after the piston seized in that cylinder. I literally cried after that happened because my dad was forced to buy a Mitsubishi L300 van off my aunties ex partner who worked at a local Toyota dealership because he desperately needed a car to cart my mother & us 5 children around in, yes,i had a soft spot for that sort of Holden since my dad & i drove home in it in 1980 after he needed to replace his LC Torana. It cheered me up a bit when he was referred to a good motor wrecker by my aunties ex , the wrecker had a rebuilt rope seal type of 202 cubic inch engine out of an LX Torana for sale fyr $300 AUD. I swear that it was a 208 cubic inch engine,it had heaps of compression & went very well for a "202" engine,it ran very smooth as well. Je ended up selling the engine for $100 to that same workmates neighbour,the workmate who gave my dad a 202 engine for nothing & he ended up gaa axing the Kingswood & scrapping it because it was full of rust. Yrs,I am a Holden who loves Holdens,I drive s tuned Holden VY SS Commodore now & I am wondering who thr hell got me into a Mitsubishi ?

in 1991 I drove my HQ sedan into a BP garage near our second hand shop. I had inherited the car from a relative, the receipt from Eagers Holden still in the glove box. The garage owner, whom I knew, came over and told me the car was not leaving the driveway. I immediately got out and started looking for the catastrophic mechanical defect, much to the mechanics humor. He then started making offers to buy it, and as it was my only car at the time, I told him it was not for sale. Even then they were becoming collectable, and eventually I walked back up to our shop with a pocket full of money. BUT I wish I had resisted and kept that damn car.

Another good one mate, kinda sad you have to explain what a "three on the tree" is but I'm sure you have a lot of younger people that watch and I'm sure a lot of them don't even know how to drive any kind of a manual transmission. So you took the front suspension out of it to fix the upper control arm bushes, now you have to replace the lower ball joints. Do you know what you are doing??
@backshed5295
@backshed5295 2 жыл бұрын
Hahahha nope probably not hahah. But what you may have missed while you were busy typing was NO suspension was removed to do the upper control arm bushes , to remove them is 3 nuts , upper ball joint nut and control arm pin nuts x 2. No suspension or springs out , no brakes ,no steering , no swaybar , nothing, 3 nuts. I did inspect the lower ball joints then and although not perfect sent it for an inspection. The inspector agreed to a degree that they were ok but preferred them changed. In the next episode I removed the lower control arm undoing none of the area I’d previously worked on. To answer your question of do I know what I’m doing ? I’m having a tonne of fun getting an old car back on the road Without restoring it. Running and driving without spending unnecessary $$$ is what this Hq is about. Thanks for watching
