Honestly d e f diesel particulate filter and emission regulation systems or emission something systems should be outright banned and taken off trucks for now on cuz they are constantly they constantly break down they constantly melt engines from the inside out and they cost trucks to lose power diesel exhaust fluid especially if you run out it can cause your your engine to list lose power it can cause your engine to melt from the inside and it's so expensive to fill and it don't even clean the diesel exhaust at all so honestly yeah I think DS systems are basically piece of s*** systems

I don't think you're completely accurate in this video. The EPA is going after more than just trucks and truckers. They are also targeting anybody who runs gas cars like race cars for deleting any type of emissions controls from their vehicles. The software may be easy to detect and/or find shops that are using it but any kind of emissions delete whether it be cars trucks or big rigs is being targeted by the EPA.

The emissions trucks require a different driving style.. long ago as a soldier a base commander set restrictions on us for rolling coal off a light. Experimenting we found it was doable somewhat. We hauled heavy ammo. We learned that by lighter foot feed the truck accelerated better and no or minimum smoke. Driving emissions trucks I switched back to this style and reduced trouble with it.

Let’s bring the elephant out into the room about how much of a double standard this emission crap is. All military vehicles have been exempt, why is that? Because they are reliable? Hell no we don’t want our military breaking down in battle or training. What about the awful gasses that come out the tailpipe when DEF is being burned during a regen. Also the added waste of plastic DEF jugs littering our landfills. I will leave this now.

The best air quality I have EVER seen in Los Angles was at the beginning of Covid when everyone was locked down and not driving other than the Truckers and the air was a clear as I have seen it in my 65 years living in So Cal so that tells you the real issues for the EPA is all of the polluting cars out on the road and not the trucks that were still rolling all day every day!!
@petersisco24993 жыл бұрын
I remember that too . Ironically the EPA won't allow new emission systems in the U.S on cars . Basically all the imports are marked up because they have to be retro fitted with outdated inefficient emissions plagued with issues . This is why car companies can't import some models . The newer engines can't run with our antiquated emissions . What's worst is the emission system most of the world uses is more fuel efficient, always more engine power , is cleaner and has much less breakdown issues . For example you can take a BMW in England and the identical model in US and the English version has a lot more horse power , greatly increased fuel milage ( usually 10 to 15 mpg better ) , less actual emissions and less break downs . Part of it is we don't use REAL gas but the emissions systems aren't as bad anymore as people think ... its just not legal here in U.S . It's like that little chip on your credit card . Third world countries with no running water and barely any electricity had the chip for nearly 20 years before we , the so called most advanced country in the world , had it . What's worst is the system that works flawlessly in 3rd world countries is full of bugs here . You can go to war torn Afghanistan and that chip works flawlessly at lightning speed . Here you have to fight with the system for minutes then usually just use the outdated strip . Worst this is the governments wish as well LOL

If I were buying a new truck, I'd ask them to include a spare set of all the after-treatment sensors that they commonly replace. Keep them with you in the truck and restock them when they get fitted. The other thing to do is to get hold of a OBD2 reader so you can troubleshoot as soon as the check engine light comes on. Delaying repairs can only make it worse. In the grand scheme of things (price of a truck and cost of downtime), the cost of this sort of preparedness is minimal. Knowing how it all works means you can say "no thanks" when service technicians/shop managers try selling the blinker fluid.

The proper way to run the delete program is two computers . Basically you need someone who knows what they're doing . They run dual wiring through a dummy switch ( fog light or some such marked switch ) . It's easy to hide second computer . So you run your truck on the delete computer which is tuned and shuts down all the junk but when you pull in for any kind of inspection hit the switch and truck runs factory spec . It's not super difficult but the average person really can't do it . Basically it's like taking your vette or demon to track and engaging track mode then engaging street mode to drive home ... but on big trucks .

Truckers have been left stranded in the middle of the Mojave desert because of a stupid sensor going out. We had to train all the drivers about not turning the truck off while it does a regen because the issue was caused by it being shut down during a regen. This caused the engine light to come on and the engine to derate until it was fixed.

Comes down to this... After the 2nd or 3rd year of your truck being in service, if you do not delete chances are VERY high that you will end up with crippling DPF issues, even if you did everything correctly. I see it day in and day out. The fact is that there was very little testing done and this was rushed out and it has exponentially increased breakdowns in OTR trucks. No matter what side of the isle you are on, this does little in the greater scheme of things to help with the environment and costs us big, especially the little guy that flat out does not make enough money to keep up with the service and repair on DPF trucks. I have had 2021 and 2022 trucks broken down for weeks due to DPF issues... Sure, warranty covers it, but who covers the $$$$ I have lost in revenue during that trucks "Peak" payback period? Its sad, truly sad, as if the bottom line was not razor thin enough... So you are left with two choices... One, delete and never have to worry about it again (if done properly) or continue to have an unreliable piece of machinery that will sooner than later leave you stranded... There is a reason why the mega carriers rotate their fleet every 2-3 years and the sad part is I see OOPs happily buying them up not knowing what is coming a few months down the line. I am ALL for the Environment so long as we don't go broke taking care of it, because in both scenarios there is nothing left to save. There must be a better way, design a less intrusive AND RELIABLE DPF system... You want to see how quickly this happens? Mandate that all manufacturers have to warranty them for 10 years from the first date the truck is put in service... Make it law and WATCH how quickly they fix them...

DPF cleaning is only done by a certified tech and Cummins is the only one that can do a "wash out" otherwise it's a new DPF kit at 250,000 miles. If you wait until 350,000-400,000 miles DPF splits apart with single line fracturing. The wash out does not extend past 350,000 miles and is only good one time. That is an expensive "clean out" to gain 100,000 miles to then replace the whole thing. Federal Laws have since changed: you delete a truck? You own it for life. You buy a deleted truck it can not go across state lines. Do these things all year long...until you get caught. Your fines when caught will top out with a prison sentence.

@hayzeproductions70933 жыл бұрын
So here is a few things i will point out so bare with me Mother Trucker! Slap your seatbelt on because its about to be a lengthy paragraph. First i will start off with VW and their emissions scandal. I am an owner of a 2009 Jetta TDI, it is currently sitting in the garage right now because i cant get it out of Limp Mode and have to spend $700 for a Ross Tech CanBus adapter because Volkswagen wants to charge me $4500 for a new dpf filter (After the warranty recall has been done to car 30,000 miles ago) They put a new dpf filter in the car, filter is good but VW wants to charge me for another filter that costs more than the car. BECAUSE they don't believe the car needs a "Parked Regen" using VCDS on my laptop, nor did they every hear about such thing (I already did my research on this) The soot levels are a 0.05% more than the parameters the ECM will allow for a regular driving regen, so I have to initiate a parked regen aka. Emergency Regen. How the emissions scandal happened. This was not really VW's intentions, it ended up happening upon ecm development. How they managed to figure out VW cars were fooling emissions without realizing this. Because VW's were front wheel drive cars, they would put the car on a front wheel drive setup on the dyno. Mind you, These cars have sensors in everything including the BRAKE PADS. yes there are wires and connectors on each individual brake pad, because I had to spend over $300 in just pads for this car. So the wheel bearings also have sensors in them as well, this is to help with traction control. VW Diesels have a very strict ecm programming in them that will make these cars go into "Limp-Mode" over a simple evap leak. (No Joke) By default when these cars get on a 2wd dyno and the back wheels are not spinning, the traction control light will blink and the ecm will get into a level 1 Limp Mode, which will dial the power back. It was VW's intentions of dialing power back for safety reasons. However some college students caught on with the issue, so they wanted to investigate and see why VW cars were doing this. They were able to take a VW car over to a tuning shop which had a dyno supporting 2 rollers on deck. The 2nd roller was powered by a belt underneath the dyno to keep the speed up on the back wheels along with the front. Traction control light never came on, and power was way on the charts. They also taken a smog test kit and found that a car with less than 30k miles failed emissions MISERABLY. So they reported it to CARB, and thats when water hit the fan with VW. Now Truck emissions issues! At one point I worked for a company that had their trucks locked down to 62 miles an hour. It was every single month I was in the shop because these trucks COULD NOT regen properly. I was always getting engine derate messages in the dash, check engine lights etc. I was pushing a Cummins ISX-3 and used to not like them because of all the regening issues. But as time when on I learned a few things about why these issues happened the way they did. Its not because of high idle time, Its not because of high mileage, its Because 62 mph at 1100 rpm's are NOT enough to burn the soot levels out of any DPF filter. Climbing hills at 1100 rpm's will also lug an engine to its death, by burning the piston rings out and eating engine oil. To the day! That company would sell those trucks around 600 to 700k miles the moment they noticed engine was eating oil and Cummins was not wanting to warranty certain trucks in their fleet anymore. The company I work for now, hauling materials in the oilfield industry, we have our trucks set at 75mph, which rides at 1600rpm's on a 10 speed. When I'm out on work that truck is left on for 3 weeks straight. When I shift, its usually around 1800 rpm's specially when pulling hills loaded at 80k. My current Engine Cummins ISX-3 with 800k miles. Runs like its brand new. Never seen a single Engine derate message, never had a regen issue, never once had to add any oil in it, and we can pull just about any hill fully loaded going no less than 73mph. Same engine, same emissions system, different company, with a higher set governor. The problem is most mega carrier fleets will dump all the power out of the truck and speed to save on fuel. But trust me when I tell you, those savings in fuel costs are going to be used for fixing the emissions on a lower powered truck.

Man u r so right.. low governed truck.. driver tryin to make it up a hill is dumping only partially burned fuel-exhaust into the filters and choking the engine. My old company that fired me last yr for no reason (i didnt giv a fk.. i had money saved and other plans anyway).. called me earlier this yr to come back for more money. Last yr the truck went 75 on pedal, 80 on cruise control (kw t680 with cummins isx450) I agreed to come back this yr but stipulated a sped up truck like i had b4 without askin (i wont drive a slow truck for many reasons) They lied and sent me out in a 70mph truck. They lied and bullshhtd for 3 weeks about turnin the truck up. When they finally did, i learned that u can raise or lower each gears rpm as well. So youre right, a good rpm limit of 1900, 2000 is where u want to be. That truck ran so dam good. My project truck sat in the back of their yard so u know i felt shitty drivin theirs, neglecting mine. I built my money up, quit them and went around the corner to their young tech. He turned my Cascadia up to 86mph, and the rpms had already been set, and still are at around 2200 per gear. I left em at that, tho 1900 is a good sweet spot. I jus know not to over rev my engine DD15. Its an ex Schneider truck

Pushed me to a pre emission truck. The biggest thing they refuse to talk about is how bad that "clean exhaust" is. Have asthma and I would have asthma attacks 2-3 times per day. Pre emission and I can breathe. EPA is corrupt as these horrible emissions on trucks. Apparently a truck on the side of the road is ok versus a truck that goes down the road.

It's BS they know the shit tears up your truck keeps you in the shop yet no improvements to it. They're killing the Industry with all the regulations on top of this mess. I understand why people are going for older trucks with the epa system the trucks are garbage!

They can retrofit those to use DPF, if it comes down to it. I know they do it in Cali, but it costs like $20k.

You’re risking everything driving around with a deleted truck. Just buy a old truck and keep it runnin. Bonus you get to run paper logs. I had a truck with missing parts and not being able to go to a random dealer or big truck stop in the middle of nowhere sucked. Also you can’t trust bigger shops they’ll rat you out for the $$$$$$$ so you’re stuck with small mom and pop places.

I know of a shop in Illinois that removed all the emissions off the truck I was driving that belonged to an owner operator.... Had to be towed twice because the exhaust system regenerate switch didn't work... Removing the emissions helped...the only problem is, most shops won't work on trucks that don't have emissions...

If it was such a good thing then Cat wouldn't have said screw you and stopped building them for semi's! I knew a guy that took all the crap off of his Cat, did a military ECM and went from 5 mpg to 9.5 mpg and over 700hp in a 379. ANYTIME an engine was tuned on a dyno correctly it made more power, got far better mpg and lasted longer!!

Decades ago, when cat converters first appeared on cars and they required unleaded gas, some owners either deleted the cat converter or punched out the guts of the converter. Then modified the fuel fill neck to accept the leaded gas nozzle. Lots of gas stations would refuse to pump leaded gas into those cars and shops would not work on them as they didn't want to get blamed for the mods. Over time, the emission controls and tuning improved. Also, the EPA required manufacturers to warranty the systems for 100,000 miles. Prior to that, an exhaust system might last 3 - 4 years and rust away, particularly in the snow/salt zones. Now, my 2005 Toyota Sienna and 2003 Ford Crown Vic both have the original exhaust. Come to think of it, I did have the flex pipe replaced on the Toyota about 3 years ago with an aftermarket part. And not it sounds like it may be developing a leak in the same area. But, heck, at 16 years and 255K miles I can't complain very much for how long that has lasted. So, if the EPA is going to require this stuff on trucks, they should require it to be warranted for at least 200K miles and 8 years (or longer, you tell me what would be appropriate). That would provide lots of incentive for the manufacturers to either fight the EPA or build a better product.
@robertphillips24622 жыл бұрын
I agree except it should be a warranty of atleast 8 years/800k miles. 100-150k os the average life span of a normal car trucks are 800k-1m

The Authority you get to haul freight in the United States comes from the Federal Government. Yes you own the truck but the Federal Government gives you the Authority to operate. So therefore you have to obey their rules. In the next 20 years your truck will be electric anyway.
