In the past, I’ve saturated aqueous solutions with NaCl to push out the nonpolars. Usually really helps with separations. Another method I’ve used with essential oil isolation involves extraction into boiling alcohol, prior to filtering and dumping into water before doing steam distillation. Sometimes you get undesirables coming over with the alcohol vapor, but you can either toss out the heads or leave it for a day under vacuum to pull the alcohol out before distilling.

Just a quick tip for your dioxane problem and future ether storage: (I'm not sure why you didn't do this before, but mistakes happen) Store your ethers in brown bottles (if possible) and over NaOH or KOH. The hydroxides will precipitate the hydroperoxides and you can just distill the ether off using Na and benzophenone (if you need it to be very pure). Usually, I'd just use the ether staright out of the bottle, never had an issue this way (at least for extractions; not for reactions).

AS Mexican... I never expected Epazote to be useful for something besides adding something green to the food lol

Ascaridole is also a deworming drug. Probably a good thing to have in one's diet in times before modern medicine.

I work with a guy who's originally from Mexico. He grew some epazote at work. The smell is pretty shocking. It's almost a cross between some sort of minty/wintergreeny plant and cilantro. And sadly, his plants have yet to explode and/or be arrested.

This plant is actually a super super super common weed, at least it is here in Philadelphia. I can literally walk around my block and count like five or six of these plants growing along the sidewalk. I also think it tastes horrible tbh and that turpentine-y taste is so hard to get out of your mouth lol Also, those fumes are "poisonous and potentially carcinogenic"... just a heads up

Coming back to this video years later. The composition is so good, like the initial attempt at growing comes back clutch with the 'successful' extraction, but the bulk of the methodology is developed on this fuckton of mail-order dried spice and the final scene with it displacing all the spices on the microwave ties it all together.

I've made about 500 grams of TATP once right on my kitchen. It's actually not that scary because when it will do what it can do you probably will not even realize what happened. :D It's not that sensitive but with some conditions: 1) you don't melt it, 2) you don't make big crystalls of it 3) you don't contamine it with a sand or some mineral particles (it's actually most terrible thing you can do). Sand increases blow-sensitivity of most explosives dramatically.

You know, recently I have been watching the Thought Emporium channel. He does some pretty crazy GMO and tests it out. I wonder if its possible to genetically code a plant (Lets say corn) to make explosive compounds or the direct precursor to those compounds. A really expensive thing to do but damn, imagine having explosive corn kernels. Popcorns turn into bangcorns or someting

A few years back we had a chemical manufacturing facility in Texas that was hit by a hurricane resulting in several explosions around the site. The incident was memorable because the plant produced organic peroxides which had to be stored at low temperatures and the explosions resulted from the hurricane knocking out the refrigeration units for the peroxide storage resulting in the liquid contents warming up and self detonating.

I've heard of a certain tree, with fruits that blast open on impact like a shrapnel grenade. No explosive powder inide it though though it still gives a pretty good blast.

The diagram for Ascaridole looks like it's extremely dissapointed with all other plants for not making organic peroxides.
