EPEver have released a new screen accessory for their range of solar charge controllers and inverters, so I had to have a look at one.

Hi Adam Have also bought this together with a ePever 1M2S extension to be able to connect Bluetooth, WiFi or Snektek module on an additional port. With regards to the relay on back of the MT75, not actually needed when connected to the Inverter. It will send OFF or Standby command to the Inverter by using the Load button on MT75. You might need to press this button a couple of times to synchronize Load off on both Charger and Inverter. Noticed however that when Snektek module was connected, my Tracer 4210AN was not able to supply enough current to all the equipment. Snektek needed power from external Micro USB,otherwise MT75 display would fade out. Also remember that Inverter must have ID3, and charger ID1 Best regards Fred, Norway

Thanks Fred. I have a 1M2S ready to look at - for me I think that is the more interesting product. I did notice that the inverter could be toggled without the relay later - the relay is handy however for controlling none epever inverters. Thanks for the tips regarding available power. Handy to know.

Perfect video to be honest, key points: MT50 has mediocre display but CAN edit things remotely and is a better UI than the devices (someone else said that) MT75 is just a display, but a pretty good one, and can tell you about your stuff and control your load on/off IF you wire it that way (or does it control the inverter without involving the relay? that wasn't clear). Given that, I can see myself configuring the Tracer-AN units using their own crappy interface as it's just once, and then putting this somewhere prominent in the boat and watching everything via this. Jolly good. Thank you! :-) Prior to this I thought the MT75 was a better display WITH programming and I'm sure I'm not alone, so you did the community a service. Please edit your title to "MT50 vs MT75 + MT75 Remote Meter Display review" or similar so people know to click on this, I almost didn't, but I'm glad I did.

To connect to the inverter at the same time as MPPT regulator, maybe they don't need to have same ID (RS-485)

What is the least expensive MPPT that you would suggest for a 100W-200W panel setup 12/24v?
@johnnodge4327
@johnnodge4327 3 жыл бұрын
There's not real point in MPPT for 100-200W IMO. You'll find an MPPT charge controller will have an operating overhead which basically consumes any extra power captured. With such a small solar panel array, you're better of using a cheap PWM, and put the money saved towards another panel. Of course Adam might have a different view.
@AdamWelchUK
@AdamWelchUK 3 жыл бұрын
I’m much of the same opinion to John unless you’re unable to mount more panels. My shed roof is full and if I was using the power as it was being generated MPPT gives that little bit more. If you’re set on MPPT you’ll see I’m a fan of epever, who in my opinion give the best feature set for the price. I’ve loads of videos now on controllers though and you may find another suits you better.
@generalawareness101
@generalawareness101 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnodge4327 Where is that shown? I mean if the MPPT is consuming that much I do have to say that is pretty fucked up. I have never, ever seen that mentioned on even 50w systems on every website, and video, I go to. Not saying you are wrong, but that info should be out there. Something simply as in unless you are producing a terawatt don't bother (lol). Seriously, that is a pretty big point to leave out for them. :/ edit: I went digging, and everywhere I read that on a 100w panel going with PWM will end up costing me about 15% of my wattage vs the MPPT. Some sites even went so far as to break it down as to what, and why. MPPT at 100w, or more means a lot, and it begins to mean even more at 15% loss the more you have.

If it is any help, you can view the STI inverter voltage and current on the MT50, even though they tell you it does not work with the inverter. It uses the same modbus addresses as the charge controller. It is not possible to adjust any settings. So all the new controller does is allow you to view both at the same time.

A disappointing product. The bluetooth module is a better option. Even that does not solve my big problem with EPever inverters, which is the high low voltage cut off. You can't set it above 11.3v on a 12v system, or 45.2v on a 48v system. On a Lifepo4 battery this is too low for me, it leaves nothing left in the battery when the inverter switches off. It may be fine if your on lead acid. This is a fixed maximum figure on the modbus and can't be overridden. Unfortunately this means my inverters days are numbered. If you want to read the modbus to a Pi it works fine with node red and the cheap adaptors, providing you add an earth link (or don't run the Pi from the battery)
@AdamWelchUK
@AdamWelchUK 3 жыл бұрын
I think it has its uses, but I don’t see them selling a great number of them. If you are already monitoring your battery pack using node red - could you not tell the inverter to switch off at your preferred voltage using node red itself? I use node red to trigger warnings to my mobile if my batteries get too low or too high.

Look into getting a smart bms such as the diy bms project or a commercial product like this: www.aliexpress.com/item/4001100854210.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000060.3.3e0f9128v8ahgZ That way you can program it to charge/cut-off whatever voltage you want. (don't forget that you need to buy bluetooth/uart seperately for some like this one)
@muddy11111
@muddy11111 3 жыл бұрын
@@vgamesx1 The aim is to get the inverter to turn off before the BMS so I still have some power left to run essential things on DC like my router. The BMS is the last safety for the battery. I'm trying to stop that being used. The problem with any of these products is the manufactures only tell you the good news. We have to rely on the likes of Adam to look at the devices and give an honest review. For a BMS I currently have a smart Daly. So smart that if there is a problem it switches off the bluetooth and you can't see what is happening. Find you have a cell over voltage and does it try to balance it ? no it only balances on charging so it just sits there sulking till you manually draw the voltage down. I've not tried the BMS you suggest, but at least the software it uses allows balancing without the need to charge. I've recently ordered a similar unit to replace the Daly. I looked at the diy BMS and if I was running a 12v system I would have given it a try. But on 48v there would be too many boards for my liking. I suspect I will finally end up with an all Victron set up, ridiculous prices but it just works so well and does what you expect it to do every time. Anyway thanks for your suggestions.
