I bought one three years (and a bit) ago ... got me playing again. Really good sound, nice feel, and enough voices to do the job. (Even played a dramatic church organ intro with it once, sounded great!) And the portability allows me to pack/unpack and take it with me pretty easily. I've used it for some live gigs, great fun. I'm just about ready to upgrade to a more elaborate stage piano (my eye is on the P-515), but the P-125 has been great for me. Good instrument.

I AGREE! I have a P125 -- it does quite well -- especially at the price. I'm a classically-trained pianist and organist who needed something I could practice on late at night with headphones. The P125 action is quite suitable for this (I play mostly baroque and classical pieces), and the transition between it and acoustical instruments is nearly seamless. If you're playing more advanced compositions (Liszt, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, etc.) you may find a more advanced instrument would be a better choice, but for my purposes it's perfect. My ears can always tell the difference between a digital instrument and an acoustic instrument, and for me, a digital instrument will never sound like an acoustic instrument. That being the case, I saw no reason to buy a more expensive digital instrument to get a "better" digital sound since it still sounds digital. The P125 is a perfect practice instrument -- I would never expect it to replace an acoustic one. The other sounds are also very good quality -- it has a perfectly lovely harpsichord, and I can use the classical organ sounds for organ practice -- I can even record the pedal part and play it back along with the manual for some pieces; the rest of the sounds are great when I'm in a jazz mood -- I especially like the ride cymbal with the electric bass in the left hand; the accompaniment and rhythms are good quality -- what I probably miss there are the "breaks" and alternate rhythm patterns typically found on the E-series keyboards.

​@@kimtr111 I'd say for the most part yes -- 76 keys should be enough for most pieces. However to know for sure, you'd need to know the specific range (lower and upper) of the keyboard and the specific pieces you're wanting to play. I'd say for most baroque music you will rarely go beyond 5 octaves (61 keys). The lowest note on Beethoven's piano was the low F, so if the keyboard goes down that far it will be fine for Beethoven's piano works. Probably you should look through the classic pieces you want to play and find the lowest and highest notes to check out with the keyboard. The Yamaha P121 is essentially the same as the P125 except it has 73 keys from E in the bass (missing the A thru D# -- 7 notes) to E in the treble (missing F thru C on top - 8 notes). PS -- you're a coder? cool! me too (retired - mainframe cobol 1974 - 2019; fortran, basic/vba, some java)

I bought a P125 between Christmas and New Year from ePianos as an upgrade from my P45. The main reasons being that I wanted a piano that could connect to my phone/iPad to record and playback, which the P45 doesn't support. And, also, because when you pull out the headphones, I don't think the P45 sounds that great, whereas I think the P125 sounds amazing in comparison. I'm only learning to play to amuse and entertain myself so I don't expect to grow out of it any time soon. Since I bought it I have added the L125 stand and the LP-1 pedal unit and I have to admit that it does make a big difference and it's well worth the extra cost. It also looks pretty damn good, too. I don't need any bells and whistles that I'm not going to use. For me, the P125 is, so far, a perfect fit.

I have a P125 and I love it, it has a great touch like a real piano and great sound I don't need alot sounds. For more sounds I have a korg another Yamaha keyboard.

I have the P121, and I am quite happy with it. I use the main piano sound 95% of the time, sometimes I use organ or electric piano. I never use the rythm function. If you want lots of different sounds and rythms, this one is not for you. If you just want something that sounds like a piano and feels like a piano, this one is as good as it gets in this price range. It makes me very happy!

The P-125 is my favorite portable digital ever (having owned a Roland FP-30, Casio PX-S 1100, PX-S3000) it's a fantastic product. But a heads up that the recently announced P-125a is NOT an upgrade to the P-125; it is the exact same piano only with a MASSIVE feature removed; they've removed the audio interface from the USB to host port. This is a huge downgrade, because that means with the P-125a you can no longer: - stream audio IN to the piano (headphones or speakers) to play along with (KZbin videos, backing tracks, live online piano lessons etc) - easily record high quality direct audio using just a USB cable (to a phone as part of a video, or to a pc/tablet with recording software); now you have to use audio cables and an external audio interface - parts of the awesome Smart Pianist app will not work with the P-125a I tried posting this info in your blog post about the P-125/P-125a but my comments don't appear. I also own a DGX-670 (absolutely fabulous instrument; I love it but it's not portable, so the P-125 fills that gap). I don't know what Yamaha was thinking in downgrading the P-125 to the P-125a; hopefully a P-135 will appear in 2023!

Out of curiosity why do you like it more than the Roland FP30? And how about the FP30 X ? I personally think the action on the p121/5 feels like a toy compared to other digital pianos that aren't too far in price.

@@Elazarko Piano key actions are super personal; I found the FP-30 to be “mushy” (to use a highly technical term lol). It was ok on the way down (albeit a bit heavy for my taste) but sluggish on the way up; just found the GHS to respond better and feel higher quality (from an “I’ll never break this” angle). But the action wasn’t the big deal breaker; it was the user interface (or lack thereof). Having to use function key combinations looked up in a manual for settings is bad enough but for selecting sounds? Far too frustrating to use, and with no line out ports and no built in audio interface (those both got added to the FP30x) the 125 was just a better choice for me. And the smart pianist app blows the piano partner app out of the water (no Bluetooth on the Yamaha one but the Bluetooth on the Roland one was super flaky

Be careful not to confuse P125 with P125A. The P125A does not have the ability to send/receive audio over the USB port, which means you cannot use its speakers as output from your computer.

A major con few people I've heard talk about in these videos is that overtime, the keys become sort of clunky and awkward. I've had this piano for nearly 2 years now with 7 problematic keys, 1 being a black one and first ones appearing after about half a year of daily use. The action remains the same (i.e. you'd have to press them with the same force to get the same volume), but you definitely feel the difference and it sometimes disturbs the playing feel. There are some videos of how to fix the issue with grease and tape, but for that you'd have to unscrew the whole board in pieces and seems a little erratic way of fixing things and only delays the problems to reappear later. Wish I had more experience with similarly priced pianos, but people like to compare this one with FP30(x) or ES110. I've heard Rolands tend to have a more sustainable action.

I bought a P-125 mainly because of its weight….or lack of it…only 11.5kg! I used for many years a Kawai MP10 which weighs in at a whacking 31.8kg!! I have to say that the overall sound, touch, facilities and general quality of the P-125 come nowhere near the MP10, but it was far more expensive than the P-125, of course. The P-125's greatest asset, in my opinion, is its portability, being a third of the weight of the MP10. I'm still a full-time wedding and party pianist up here in The Lake District and I'm 76 next birthday, so a lighter piano is a real blessing!

Definitely recommend buying the stand with the p125, it makes a huge difference in terms of stability and has a great quality. I didn't get the stand at first but soon gave in, it really makes a difference.

Be careful with the input and output jacks on the P-125. They are plastic, weak and prone to breaking their solder connections. Unfortunately, this is true of many of these keyboards. 58 screws to get inside this piano for repairs.

Only found your channel today........shame that I didn't find you before because I had the p-121 delivered on Wednesday 🙁. Bit disappointed with some aspects once I started using it.Did really want either the p515 or the dcx670, but couldn't justify the extra expense being a beginner again after 57 years not playing the piano. Plug ins for MIDI CABLE AND POWER TO IPAD PRO to run HAMMOND B-3X Hans Stampanator Plugging in the USB MIDI (printer end) to the MIDI port on the p125 and the other end (which is thunderbolt) on the iPad. I CAN play the BX3 software. AND NO, I don’t get a message about “needing too much power.” However, with this single cable hookup the iPad is running on battery power ONLY. I want to have direct power to the iPad. I *think* I need a 2-1 box with a “Y” that has the thunderbolt end that can be plugged into the iPad. AND, on the box, a thunderbolt (female) to plug in my MIDI plug cable. AND a USB (not C) port where I can plug in a USB cable that will (on the opposite end) then plug into a power block for direct power to the IPad. Is there such a block with a thunderbolt (FEMALE) slot to accept the thunderbolt (MALE) from my MIDI cable?

Never buy a Yamaha P 125. Without trying it out first. The keys make a clicking sound which is very irritating. And will drive you to distraction. I complained to Yamaha about it, sent them an audio and they told me the clicking was normal. I then consulted a digital piano firm who tested it for me and said that the clicking sound was indeed normal. Fortunately he agreed to take my dreadful Yamaha P125 in exchange for a more expensive model. In the end I paid twice the price for my Yamaha. Otherwise I would have dumped it on the street...it was driving me crazy....And I only used it for a few months...

Thank you for the video. As a matter of fact, I have recently “downgraded) from P-515 to P-125a and one of the contributing factor was that I only need one or two piano sounds (to other sounds, effects, accompaniments etc). The main reason was that NWX action started to become too heavy for me and I could not play very long. I want simplicity and cannot understand why there is no digital piano with great action and just one sound (the other would come from VSTs if needed. The only feature of P-515 (and which P-125 had) I am missing is USB Digital Audio Interface. By the way, I wonder how it should be explained to potential customers that an acoustic piano does not have 400 + sounds and a lot of rhythms. Michael Ps. Yamaha Arius pianos do not really have better action (may be just the third sensor) and even lower end Clavinova pianos have plastic keys. P-515 has wooden keys but it is much heavier than the acoustic pianos I tested - 85g (to move C4) vs 50-57g.

I bought a 4 post stand for mine because the x frames just wobble which drove me nuts.(I could see yours wobbling as you played it) I feel like it's impossible to have proper posture, I can't sit with my legs under it and have my arms be horizontal at the same time, I have to bend my arms upward because the keyboard is so thick which can be a little awkward. My acoustic upright keyboard is thinner and I can sit with my legs under the keyboard and my arms be perfectly horizontal. I am a beginner so maybe I'm doing something wrong, but that's just my two cents.

I use an Ultimate stand. It adjusts easily to the Thicker dimension of the piano and is very sturdy. Worth the money and looks great too.

Re the demos - the classical pieces: Can I only play one piece at a time and then have to manually select another, or is there a way to select more than one, so they become a set list and segue into each other? This would be great for when I want a break from playing a wedding reception, etc. and save my clients from listening to mindless pop while I'm on a break!

It’s an amazing starting keyboard, great sound, feel and value for the money. However really disappointed to find there is only 1 user song memory!!! No usb port for external disk-on-key. I really like recording my own playing, to save some ideas. Even my 15 years old clavinova has this. In p125 you must connect to a pc in order to record more than 1 song. Biggest con of this keyboard!

Just played this at Guitar Center. You didn't mention what is to me is a fatal flaw of the P-125 and lower models. The speakers are weak. Maximum volume is a joke - I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The P-225, which replaces this model has much louder, more robust speakers. Not a problem, if you're using external speakers or headphones, but some of us just want to use the speakers that come with the keyboard.

As a gigging player who often has 'left hand bass' gigs I was REALLY disappointed with the amazing error on Yamaha's part in not allowing sustain pedal to be turned off on the left split. It makes it totally unusable for quick setup/pickup gigs. I have to USB midi to my laptop or my iPad. I have no idea why a firmware update couldn't fix it but, man, am I ever pissed at yamaha as well as the sales guy who told me, "No problem, it must be in the manual" and I trusted them.

I bought a 2nd hand that comes with the Wooden stand L-125 as well as the 3 pedals LP-1. I remember paying like 400 pounds for it. Mainly for my 5 years old daughter to practice. Now I literally play it everyday. I learnt to play gymnopedie No.1, Arabesque No.1, Clair De Lune, and now I'm learning Rach 2, 2nd movement piano solo arrangement on it. It sounds good enough for practicing at home, or with my earphone connected. The plastic keys still feel less superior from traditional upright piano's wooden keys, but it is worth every penny.

I thought that for once somebody would have talked about Yamaha's P-series' serious issues as a MIDI controller but nope. THEY DON'T SEND THE WHOLE VELOCITY RANGE,stop suggesting these piano as a controller because they just suck when used that way. That's the reason why I sold my P45,after years of struggling with velocity curves. (It applies to many Yamaha pianos apparently). They're great pianos,but BAD CONTROLLERS.

Would probably depend on how much use the keys got. A lot of heavy playing can screw up the action on these digital pianos. Not sure how the P125 is designed. If you can press all the keys with it off and they have the same resistance and don’t sound different it should be okay

Of course, great video and thanks for putting the effort. However, the cons you mentioned are not actually cons. These are entry level pianos for cheaper prices with basic stuff, that's it. I have this piano since 2019 and the title of the video scared the heck out of me 😂The only real cons that I'd like to share here is the F4 and G4 keys are being a bit loose with ticking noise while playing. I really expected real malfunctions in the P125 in this video as reasons NOT to buy it :)

Dem Kommentar muss ich widersprechen. Das Piano erfüllt die Zwecke zu 100%. Begründung: Ordentliche Tastatur, und ein sehr guter Klang, im Verhältnis zu einem moderaten Preis. Es ist konzipiert als Piano und nicht als Sound-Engine oder Entertainer-Keyboard mit massenhaften Sounds und Begleitgimmicks. Davon abgesehen werden ambitionierte Spiele ein echtes Piano oder einen Flügel bevorzugen.

I use the p125 as a midi controller, for someone like myself, it gives me piano action, I don’t need to spend a fortune on a piano action keyboard if I’m just using it as a controller. I was using a motif 8 for years and the weight was killing me so I moved to a soft synth rig. One more thing if my soft synth crashes I have a 1/4” cable already sent to my sound tech so at least I have sounds either through the app or the few sounds on the piano to get me through.

For space and weight reasons I bought the 73 key version (P-121) as it only weighs around 10kg. One of the best features of the P125/121 and often overlooked is the inbuilt USB audio which means with a single USB cord you can send midi and receive audio back to the keyboard's speakers or plugged in headphones. Perfect for playing iOS piano and other apps from your iPhone/iPad - it just works. Not so sure if this feature will be continued on the July 2022 new version P-125a as the specs seems to indicate this has been dropped.

One of my regrets is getting the P125 over the P121, when the P121 has all the features of the P125 and then some. I thought I needed all the keys. Now I think I would've been fine without the extra keys.

I own a Roland FP90 at home, but divide my life between countries and where I am now doesn't sell them. So am considering Y-P125 as an alternative. I really would love a Roland, but this doesn't seem like the worst option - as where I am the shops only sell P125, P45, or Casio PXS-1000 series types pianos (not a fan of Casio, although can't say I've ever tried this particular model). The choice is hard, as I can't even go and test them live, so have to order online. :)

I was going to say that 'the kettle is always on' for you - which is British for 'you'd be welcome to visit anytime', and then I remembered that, much to my astonishment, kettles aren't a thing in the US, are they? Here in the UK, when you move house, a kettle is literally the first thing that you buy. Whenever you return home, you practically switch the kettle on before you've closed the door behind you and taken off your shoes. I couldn't help but look further into this, and after a bit of Googling, it turns out that the lack of electric kettles in the US is something to do with the difference in voltage. The 73-note version of the P-125 is called the P-121 and you can see it on our website here: www.epianos.co.uk/yamaha-p121/ For a beginner, particularly if you're pressed for space, the P-121 will be just fine. Personally, I'd go for the full-length P-125 if you can - as if your daughter's ability progresses rapidly (which, of course, everyone hopes for!), then she's got room to grow. Hope that helps!

I've played the piano since I was 9 (many decades ago!) and didn't get used to the action (Graded Hammer Standard) of my P125 and so I sold the piano to a friend who loves it. I play jazz and boogie piano and the action never felt satisfying. For me the action was too light and just didn't feel right. I'm used to a heavier action to dig into. The action would trip me up on fast run. As mentioned in the video, I think wooden keys would have helped the P125- to provide a more solid action. My old Korg SP250 felt much more like a piano but was heavy to lug around regularly for club gigs. My choice would be any Yamaha with the GH or GHE action. The GHS (P45/ P125) just didn't feel right on piano voices. For e-piano /organ voices it's better, as those instruments don't need a nuanced action and your brain doesn't expect a piano feel.

Wish I had seen this video before I bought a P121 a week ago. The keyboard shortcuts are a no-go for me, the speakers are lame, and the only sound worth anything is the main piano sound. It's going back. I'm thinking of the DGX 670, but saw the weight, 47lbs, yikes. Though I saw you pick it up in another video and since you are about my size, maybe there's hope. One thing about the 670, I heard it does not have line outs, you have to use the headphone jack. Is this right? Your videos are very helpful, though this one makes me miss my music shed in my old house.

P125 is perfectly fine and it has amazing sound - surely way better than anything you've seen from standard keyboards, this video is all but misleading. Pedal is really bad but the "non brand" upgrade which is EXACTLY the same as Yamaha one is £15 so... It sounds great and if you're not looking for a device you compose on (using midi recordings) it is a great choice. It almost feels like this man is trying to talk you into buying a higher model when you actually don't need one at all. It's not a piano for people earning by playing/composing but it is one of if not THE best starter pianos. Don't get sidetracked into Alesis or Roland - the feel and sound of the Yamaha will please you. When he says that "you may outgrow it" what he actually means is "in 3-5 or more years, if at all, when you'll be playing concerts or composing you may need something that works better as a MIDI), which is a bit of an elitist talk. It's best to check it out in the store and see how it feels.

If the P 125 had the Bösendorfer sample it would be worth considering , but as it hasn't I don't really see why you would chose it over the DGX 670 anymore ( could be there will be a new lower end P series model soon which does indeed include that sample ) .It also has the exact same action as the DGX

@@virgilgray it literally says on the spec sheet of the P125 it has the GHS action, which is the same as the one in the DGX . Mind you : at least one thing it has going for it ( and that's a biggie ) : as you mentioned yourself it is PORTABLE so ideal to gig with . While it says the DGX is portable that really is only in theory ( or for folks craving a hernia) .What I meant was there's heaps of folks who can afford to buy just the one instrument and if you look at it like that there's better choices around for the pricepoint. Nowhere do I say the P125 is "bad " . What I'm curious about is what its succesor will bring to the table ( maybe Chris will know that already ?)

​@@ricardofishing7224 hmmm -- ok ... in any case there's quite a range of instruments of varying builds in terms of quality, action, sound, and features to choose from between Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Kawai, Casio, and others. The "best" fit is, of course, subjective to each person's personal tastes, likings, etc. Arriving at it would likely be aided by deciding for which purpose(s) the instrument will be used -- including a projected "lifetime" window of service desired -- and then identifying those instruments which most likely would fulfill the intended/desired use. That having been said, it will ultimately be up to the individual to determine which intruments is "best".

yes - in the front there is a standard headphone jack -- actually there are 2 jacks - for teacher - student set-up; the keyboard sound can be split so that both halves have a middle C -- teacher and student can play together in same range

Neither the Yamaha P125 or P515 will fit easily width ways across the back seat of a regular-sized car. Something you can do is place them in the footwell of the front passenger side seat and rest them up against the seat itself. This won't work on every car but it's a neat soloution.
