Hey guys, AMAZING video!!! i was only a few days behind you, doing my 1st crossing, solo, on a 2010 DRZ400. I felt every bit of what you were going thru. Its incredible how much energy you use every time you have to pick up your bike. I got bogged twice literally 1 metre from the top, both times it took an hour to get out, the sand is like nothing i have ever experienced before, there is no firm base deeper down just endless, talc like, soft sand. There is something truly special about putting yourself thru that kind of test, feeling like you have nothing left to give, absolutely exhausted, dehydrated and fatigued like you've never felt before, knowing that nobody is going to do it for you, you just have to dig a little deeper to get it done. And if you haven't done it, you just don't know how empowering it can be. I cant wait to go back Truly an awesome effort, Well Done!

Thanks heaps, Stewart! You're a madman doing that solo in those conditions but kudos for getting it done and 100% agree about it being special. I also can't wait to get back!

This reminds me of what my brother and I went through going down the Baja in 1970 no paved roads very few gas stations we got a lot of bad gas from jugs and barrels one thing I learned was never stop at the bottom of a sand dune momentum is your friend we carried enough water but not near enough gas good video. If your tube is getting pinched your tire pressure is too low

Every meaning of the word adventure, and nightmare ha ha. And I raise the point again, why is the majority of bike gear black. Boots, armour and helmets would have been heating you up more than lighter coloured gear. I don’t think there’s such a thing as taking too much water, if you had to stay an extra day because of an overheated bike etc it would have been used. Thanks for taking us on the trip, well worth the wait
@AusMoto
@AusMoto 27 күн бұрын
Thanks mate and I reckon you’re right, not sure why the manufacturers make most gear black! And yep, you’re right, we’d be grateful for that extra water if we were stuck out there any longer and that’s why we brought more than we needed. Glad you enjoyed it!

Great effort lads, you guys are young and fit, there are a lot of older dudes doing these adventures on bigger bikes that would really struggle in the heat and rough tracks. Why use jerry cans instead of fuel bladders? As other said, black gear really absorbs the heat, buy quality gear.
@AusMoto
@AusMoto 22 күн бұрын
Thanks mate, can’t imagine doing it on big bikes in that heat! Could pack jerries in the panniers and keep the weight lower as opposed to having bladders which need to be tied down higher up (we used them on our Googs trip and didn’t like the weight up high) Yeah, it seems like most gear comes in black for some reason, especially armour haha

Your whole tyre pressure game is off boys. I run 8 psi with a Mitas. They have harder side walls and I'm not running weight. Would be higher but still pretty low if I had bags. I never get flats either. You should have split an old tube and lined the inside with the whole tyre and then put the good tube inside that......sounds like those bikes didn;t have enough poke either. Were they 250's or something?
@AusMoto
@AusMoto 27 күн бұрын
Gotta think about pressures differently when you got an extra 40+ kg in the rear but yeah, probably could have gone lower but after the issues we already ran into, didn’t want to risk running too low and having issues in the desert. Yeah, both 250s and extra power would certainly have been nice haha!
