USMC 4th Marines= red diamond patch. The ribbons in the set of two are a WW2 Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign With 4 campaign stars and a Army Good Conduct medal (three white stripes at either end). The ribbons in the set of 5 are a Meritorious Unit Commendation(looks like second award from the piece set in the middle But it is kinda blurry), Navy Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment ribbon, and a Navy E ribbon.

From what I can find, most of the ribbons were introduced after 1961, although the Navy Unit Commendation was authorized in 1944 and the Army Good Conduct was prior to WWII. Biggest let down for me was why any dealer would include INB merchandise in their offerings.

As far as the uniform stuff goes: The patch is from the 4th Marine Division. The pin is for an Airman First Class (A1C) and it seems pretty modern. As far as the two racks they are as follow: The top one has from left to right an European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with four campaign stars, and an Army Good Conduct Medal. That means he fought in four different campaigns throughout the war. The other rack, from left to right and top to bottom, has Navy Meritourious Unit Commendation Medal with 1 bronze star, meaning second awards, a Navy Unit Commendation Medal, a Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon, a Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, those were not issued until 1980 and retroactively up to 1974, and the last ribbon is a Navy Efficiency Ribbon, or E ribbon and it denotes service in a ship that won an efficiency competition, also began issue in 1974, so that rack is much more modern.
@Silverpicker
@Silverpicker 4 жыл бұрын
Wow that's so helpful Christopher! Thank you so much! Super interesting. So the stars on the ribbons signifies the number of times they were awarded that ribbon?
@chriss.9662
@chriss.9662 4 жыл бұрын
Silverpicker depends on the appurtenance, or bronze piece on ribbons like oak leaves, stars, numbers, etc., in the case of stars on campaign medals it’s is only awarded once and the stars just denote how many campaigns you participated in, those are mainly separated by geographical location and dates. Others like the Navy Unit Commendation, having one star means that your unit received two of the same medal. If you have any more questions about anything military related that you come across, especially Army, I’d be happy to help you identify it, I really enjoy your channel and have a bit of knowledge when it comes to military history and uniforms.

Entirely too much random historical stuff in a "coin" grab bag. Bags seem catered to the individual and not a true grab bag. Of the three Rob's was best IMO. This was a good idea but it seems to me that the seller knew what they were filling the bags for. Better done completely anonymously to get a better showdown. Can't argue that the seller did great job in making the cost fair.

Silverpicker Easy mistake to make for someone who isn’t Australian or knows a lot about Australia. I’m not going to blame you for making a mistake. I was shocked that across the 3 bags there wasn’t a 1966 Silver Australian 50c coin. Given how crazy common they are, and being 60% silver I thought at least one of them would have them. They are beautiful coins, and I am lucky enough to have 3 or 4 of them. Though, at over 166 million minted they wouldn’t add any value to the bags, so I guess that is why there aren’t any, that and there wouldn’t be many in the States.

I have to admit I liked the WW2 theme. I am a WW2 history nut. I thought the neatest thing happened to be the letters to the Yorktown. Overall, I have to admit I think each bag was of equal value. Nothing in them spoke WOAH so and so hands down won. I liked the individual touches each bag had. Silver seekers felt more like an actual grab bag to me with more random stuff, Robs seemed to have more coins, where as yours had that WW2 collection which I personally enjoyed watching you unbox.

The bird on NZ sixpence is an extinct bird called the Huia ( may spelt that wrong ) and watch out for the 1934 NZ sixpence as about 10000 were minted due to the English King giving up the Throne that year

@@Silverpicker They represent the number of times it was awarded, if more than one was. So if there is no star, it was awarded once. If you find a V it is for Valor. Navy E? Don't know, I was Army.

Regarding the ribbons, the tow at the top left to right: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with what appears to be four campaign stars, at right is the Army Good Conduct Medal. Below that, left to right is the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Navy Unit Commendation. On the bottom row, I can't make out the first one on the left. The next two ribbons are the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/star, denoting a second award. The last one is the Navy Battle "E" (efficiency) Ribbon. Hope this helps. The red patch is the 4th Marine Division patch.

I'm a professional philatelist so I will be evaluating your stamps and letters like I did for the other two guys. The censor mail is worth $1 each, the first day covers are worth $5 each. WOW the Japanese occupational money is definitely worth money if you have any Filipino occupational money the sky's the limit. I have seen some go as high as $100 each, all about connection. Your military ribbons are very collectible I believe you have a purple heart on the ribbon ban bottom right-hand corner with a bronze star on it. Historical data can be valuable. OMG The USS Yorktown CV-5 mail. Sunk at Midway, 3 miles down, not rediscovered until 1998. I think you won this battle hands down.

I have to give the coin assortment victory to Rob as while all are interesting SLQ's will always get big points. With that said I have to give you the "King title" (even though you just made it up) because my family has fought in every war and conflict from WWI to the jungles of Vietnam so anything military gets bonus points. Great videos.

The bird on the New Zealand sixpence is a huia, an extinct species that was last sighted in 1907. I just found my invasion note (a Malayan ten dollar bill displayed at 7:30) which I’m very happy about! I’m a huge fan of the historic artefacts inside. Some of my relatives lived in fascist Italy, and the memorabilia I have from that time is very unusual and interesting. Minor corrections: in the UK, the three pence piece was referred to as a ‘thruppence’, not a ‘threppence’. One of the French coins is Vichy, the other two are from the French Republic. Both of the French Republic coins were minted well into the 1950s as France’s economy was in ruins after the war.

Wow that's so interesting. Would love to hear more about your family's experience in Fascist Italy. Thanks for the correction on the UK pronunciation too! Regarding the Vichy and French Republic coins, when I filmed it, I thought I had eloquently explained that...clearly it came out kind of confused lol.
