Epic 4000 km Road Trip across Thailand in an old Mercedes 280 TE (W123) with lots of Challenges

Our epic 4000 km road trip in Southeast Asia from Phuket in the south of Thailand to the Mekong River in the north of the Isaan. We discover Bangkok and its infamous rush hour traffic, drive along the Mekong River to Nong Khai and Chiang Khan, visit the ruins of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya and spend some time in various repair shops to make it back to Phuket. Our car is a 1979 Mercedes Benz 280 TE station wagon (W123/S123). And we invite you to join us on this adventure!

Welcome back! I followed you since you bought this Mercedes. Very enjoy watching this video of you travel and tell the story along the way. Hope I will drive around Thiailand like this one day. I used to have w123 300D and my car some time broke, but the good thing driving an old MB in Thailand is there are a lot of garages that can fixed it along the way. Of course not for a new hi tech vehical nowaday.

That's true. Even in Thailand it's quite easy to repair and find spare parts for a W123. And I think it will drive forever when modern cars are already broken ;)

Ah, I saw it for sale some month ago - think it is sold now. I drive a 230 W123 daily to work through Bangkok, I much prefer it over modern cars. I am looking for a 300 TD though to save on fuel consumption. Thanks for sharing your road trip!

7:06 wash your windscreen with very soapy water and see if it helps rain water slide off more quickly

Is getting an older car worth it say like this kind of Merc which might be like 23 yrs old as opposed to an 8 yr old car? I am looking at a 92 Corolla

It looks like English Red, but it was repainted at some time and I think it's a bit more orange than the original.

W123 estate is rare in Thailand. the price is same level to coupe model.

@@CubeofCars here in Thailand we can not import used car anymore due to new law. It is sad story for who love classic car in Thailand. The price is rising. now young people more interest in classic car but the amount of supply can not increase.

Even though I am Thai, I still think that without road like US's interstate system or the autobahn, long road trip like this is still very tough and dangerous for me. Delinquent bikers, wrong-way drivers, or bad road condition, for examples.

Autobahn is good, if you want to be fast from A to B, but it's not nice to drive on a road trip when you want to enjoy the landscape along the road. Yes, Thai roads are more dangerous, but it's still ok, if you are not in a hurry and have a relaxed style of driving. For a road trip with an old car, that's great :)
