Hello Beard Guy [ Reacts ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘

@@beardscorner They’re definitely a band that are better live, their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock, folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between, hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍

@@beardscorner I especially liked that you found time for the lyrics. The good news is that all their lyrics are meaningful, being written in a poetic way, full of metaphors, in the vast majority of them by Tuomas Holopainen, one of the most talented composers of these times. I await with particular interest your next reactions to Nightwish!.

Nightwish Army South Germany Division Hello Beard Guy Reacts ...Our Boss, Commander-in-Chief and General of the Nightwish Army Gabriel Bardac has already told you the most important things. It only remains for me to say a warm welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and at the same time welcome as a new recruit to the ranks of the Nightwish Army. You've just seen and heard her, who is named by her fans worldwide in the sum of her honorifics in hundreds of React videos: This is Our Majesty Floor Jansen, First of her Name, Goddess of the Valkyrs, Highly Queen of the Vikings, THE Lady of Nightwish, the House Band of the Gods of Asgard, Chosen Ones of Odin ,Protector of our Metal Realm Long may she reign She raises her hand and commands an 80k+ crowd with her incredible presence and power. Just with a wave of her hand. A member of the Nightwish Army once said: The old gods of Asgard sent Floor Jansen down from the heavenly heights as their gift to Nightwish. They sent them armed with a sword in one hand and a microphone in the other. And yes, I personally believe that's how it happened. There is nothing more to say about this Greetings from Germany the lady

Wacken is a small village about 80 km northwest of Hamburg with about 1800 inhabitants. Once a year, in early August, this sleepy little town becomes the location of one of Europe's biggest metal festivals. For three days, the bear will literally tap-dance there....or the bull, which is the emblem of the festival. This year's festival was completely sold out within 6 hours.

This is an annual huge metal festival. In 2013 Nightwish was the headliner. Your interpretation is valid. IMHO - It is a dark romantic yearning for a love that was or possibly was never realized. Tuomas (keys) writes very poetic lyrics which he encourages each listener to find their own personal understanding. You will find that each Nightwish song is different. Yet still the signature Nightwish sound. Tuomas loves to compose lyrics regarding lost innocence and uses water imagery and metaphors to express his poetic lyrical message. He is a genius at creating a vivid soundscape helping to tell the story of his compositions. He uses real choirs on a backing track for that epic effect. The choir was singing the part . My fall will be for you My fall will be for you My love will be in you You were the one to cut me So I’ll bleed forever Great reaction Beard Guy. Hope to see you again very soon. Nightwish is always best live. You should have turned on the CC. Many videos have the lyrics available. I think it is time for a little story? It's definitely Storytime! kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3-6eWqig8psp6s - 🎼 NIGHTWISH 🎶 Storytime 🎶 Live At Wacken 2013 ☢ CORRECT SPEED ☢

Nightwish Army North Texas division reporting for duty. Welcome to the wonderful world of Floor Jansen and Nightwish. Wacken is small village in northern Germany outside Hamburg. Wacken Open Air is one of the largest hard rock, heavy metal festivals in the world. Usually 3-4 days. Floor is the third and current lead singer of the band. She is Dutch. Nightwish is incredible. Songs are each pretty unique, but all epic. It is an experience. Tuomas’s lyrics are poetic and meant to be open to interpretation. I think you got message of this one. Great reaction, thank you. Some of the lyrics you missed were sung by a choir on the backing track. This Wacken 2013 DVD is of very good audio quality over all, but for some reason it's almost impossible to hear what the choir is saying. There's an older version with the original female lead, where you can hear the choir better. I wellcome your lyric analysis. Not too many reactors dare to dive in to the lyrics of Nightwish, Tuomas, the keyboardist/songwriter. He always leaves room for interpretation. You did well. Like you noticed, sea is important for him, as a child he wanted to become a marine biologist. He refers to himself as The Ocean soul. He often writes about going back to childhood stories, innocence. Especially on the early Nightwish albums. The last two albums are inspired by science. Evolution for example. The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere 2015) is a 20 minute song, or experience rather, a masterpiece, covering millions of years. From big bang, or even before that, to this day. Hope you save reacting to this for later. In 2020 Tuomas also wrote a song about Eugene Shoemaker, the only man whose ashes has been sent to the Moon. He always needs a story first, to write music. He has never written a song just jamming. He turns stories into music. He has recorded only one solo album, in 2014. "Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge" the graphic novel by Don Rosa the illustrator/storyteller. Recorded with an orchestra in London. There's a video of one of the songs A LIFETIME OF ADVENTURE (Official Video), my favorite song of the album, love it.. Beautiful vocals by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. Don Rosa is in the video drawing. Funny and interesting background info: "Holopainen and Rosa interviewed by Radio Nova" parts 1&2&3, only 6 minutes altogether. But to me his best song ever is "The POET and the PENDULUM", Wembley Arena 2015, 14 minutes. The song is in five parts, he wrote it at the lowest point of his life, contemplating the ultimate "solution", glad he decided to write a song instead, after firing the original female lead, 1996-2005. He was given the roll of the bad guy. Again save it untill later to react to it. And search the net for more information about the song before reacting, unless you want to react blind. Your choise of course. Maybe what I just told is enough. Greetings from Finland!

Depends on which direction you want to go. You won't do anything wrong with Wacken 2013 - there were 15 songs, all being unique (live versions almost always are better than studio). But if you happen to think that the next one (maybe Storytime?) disappointed you, please give Nightwish at least a third chance with "The Greatest Show on Earth". Since you are obviously into lyrics, you will definitely like that one. But it usually is one of the last ones to check out, because you first should know Nightwish a bit better.

The best guitar solos, in my opinion, was from Pink Floyd. Their songs are very long, so they are not played much on the radio. The very best guitar solo, in my mind, was from the Live concert from Pink Floyd called "Pulse". The guitar solo I am speaking of is from their song "Sorrow" from the live Pulse concert. It is just over 11 minutes long and the solo starts at the 7 minute mark.

Welcome to the Nightwish family. Tuomas is the poet and Mozart among metal songwriters and composers. His lyrics are profound and meaningful, and his music is extremely versatile. No song is the same sounds like another. Then there is Floor Jansen - probably the most diverse singer of modern times and the goddess of music. With Marko the bass player they have a brilliant musician and an experienced singer. With Jukka on drums, Nightwish has a monster on his instrument. Emmpu is also a master of his instrument, the guitar. At last to mention is Troy. He plays some instruments and is responsible for the very special moments. He also sings in the background. I am firmly convinced that with this song a long and beautiful journey with Nightwish has started for you. I will be happy to accompany you on this exciting journey. Great lyrical analysis. The whole “My fall will be for you My love will be in you…” part is actually sung by the backing choir, but in this version they’re so low in the mix it’s difficult to pick out. The song (like all NW songs) is written by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and is written from his perspective. Some people will tell you it’s about original front-woman Tarja Turunen but this has never been confirmed or denied 🙄

If lyrics are your thing, then Nightwish is your go to band. Their main composer is massive fan of the greatest poets humanity had and is able to extrapolate words needed to make a fantastic song. There are few songs with multiple meanings (Ghost River and Pan) and those might be your cup of tea. Most of their videos have subtitles so following lyrics is easier.

Your advice is spot on. Wacken 13 GLS is THE intro to Nightwish and Valkyrie Goddess Floor. Jan 6 2022 had me ensnared into unshakable Flooradoration with this number. Your detailed assessment of the lyrics leads me to one piece of advice. PLEASE do not listen to Poet and the Pendulum until you have had quite a bit more Nightwish experience and know something about the back story. Only THEN go for it with Floor, Wembley rendition. Thank you for your very different reaction. If you like going into lyrics, try Stargazers with Tarja.

I think of this song like a music score (soundtrack) for a movie. Different scenes in a movie naturally require different styles of music. In this song, the opening instrumental music is like an overture that operas have; a preview of some of the music to be heard later in the show.

Wacken Open Air is one of the largest and oldest metal festivals in the world, located in northern Germany. The logo is the bull skull. Back then there were over 80,000 visitors, today there are over 100,000. Nightwish was the headliner and the last band that night. Since Floor is officially only the temp here, there is no studio version of the songs with her. Internally it was already agreed that she would be the third singer. Symphonic Metal emerged in the late 1990s and made massive use of orchestras, choirs and synthesizers. A female singer is typical, often an opera singer. It became popular through Nightwish and Within Temptation. Within Temptation - 'The Fire Within' (Official Music Video) Like most texts, Tuomas did not explain this one either. The song was created in 2003/04, shortly after Pirates of the Caribbean. You can hear that too. For me he anticipates the break with the first singer and founding member Tarja. They had grown apart over the years. Immediately after the last concert of the tour, the band gave her an envelope that she was not supposed to open until the next morning. Inside was her resignation, which was published online at the same time. Floor changed the ending shortly after their first performances. In the original with Tarja, the singing slowly fades away, Floor increases it.

Wacken (pronounced Vacken) is a regular festival in North Germany and Nightwish were headlining in front of 80,000+ fans. Songwriter Tuomas Holopainen does mention oceans and seas a lot in his lyrics. One Nightwish album is called "Oceanborn". Going back to childhood innocence is another reoccurring theme of his. The "cut me" part of the lyrics are not her, but the choral chant in the background. You've opened a real Pandora's box with Nightwish. They are amazing. You will love their other live performances on here (KZbin), very varied in mood and style, but always epic. They just might take over your life!

Welcome from the Netherlands Beard Guy into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredibly talented female vocalist Floor Jansen (pronounced: Yang-Sen, with a quiet ‘e’ in the 2nd sylabbe of her last name). WOA is a huge metal festival in Germany with 82k+ audience. The burning Bulls Head is WOA festival’s official logo. NW performed on the main stage at the last night of the festival. BTW, GLS was song #13/15 and Floor was less than a year their new singing replacing Anette Olson since October 1st 2012 halfway their 2yrs world tour. This song was not written for Floor and is not about her. It’s about the songwriter, the Poet himself, which is Tuomas Holopainen, keyboards and composer of 95% of all NW songs. Floor is their third female vocalist, while the original song was already written for their first (Tarja Turunen). Floor is the mouthpiece of the poet of this Score. The first part is, as you guessed it, a love story about having the same main goal together: making music and telling stories through music, but that love was proven to be mortal. This love didn't last forever. The Poet then sinks into his own blue sea and in melancholic remembrance of how this lost love could have been. In the instrumental interlude, his childhood dies by figuratively diving after the Siren. Into the blue ocean. In the last part he emerges, but does not know which way his life will be going. The Ghost may guide him. In the end a new future is dawning and the prospects seem good, but the innocent boy from his childhood has disappeared. In this he has armed himself against new disappointments. from now on he will not let his life depend on others. This Ghost Love could also refer to losing your childlike faith in the God of his youth. Traditionally, almost all Finns are very Christian, but God turns out to be different than they imagined. This discovery can come as a shock to young people, after which they say goodbye to faith. Most of the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish is written by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a running soundtrack pre-recorded at Angel Studios, London. This orchestra is featuring on every album NW released since ‘Once’ (except the last one Human :|: Nature which is performed by Blue Dot Orchestra). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTbm36iisidjtE The background choir you frequently hear are the Metro Voices, a choir group also based in London. At some songs a boy’s soprano performed: Guy Elliott, 2nd boy soprano: Tom Williams, courtesy of the Reigate St Mary's Choir School. Child choir: Young Musicians London.

First time visitor here! Great reaction and I really like your style! That you're paying attention to the lyrics is definitely a plus - lyricist (and band leader) Tuomas' words are indeed poetry and listeners that skip the lyrics are missing out! Your interpretation of the song is probably the most popular one. I figure that "ghost love" is not only a "dead" love from the past, but perhaps also one that will always "haunt" the narrator. Anyway, thanks - you've got a new sub!

Some of the written lyrics aren't actually included in the live performance, but they do give more context to the idea of the song. The writer/composer, Tuomas (keyboards) writes many songs that can be a bit ambiguous in meaning, on purpose, so that the listener can come up with their own meanings.
