Explaination for Ragnar‘s Bars: 1. Richard I. the Lionheart was killed by young (possibly 10-year old) boy, who shot a crossbow bolt into the shoulder, avenging his father who was killed by Richard. 2. The International Red Cross / The American Red Cross is an Organization that helps treat wounds and provide medical relief (e. g. on a battlefield during a war) 3. Richard had an arranged marriage and didn’t love his wife, so he never slept with or had any children with her. 4. He had one son tho, but he was illegitimate bc he was from his mistress. 5. The Plantagenet line ended with Richard III. (1452-1485), who had Scoliosis (basically a „twisted spine“) 6. Richard the Lion King actually came from a French dynasty, since he was a descendant of the Norman William the Conqueror. Thus he spoke mostly French and despite being an english King spent most of life on crusades and barely any time in England. 7. Jaffa Cakes are really famous and delicious. Especially in Germany 8. Richard tried to conquer Jerusalem literally „for Christ‘s sake“, but failed 9. He saw „the holy land“, but couldn’t go all the way. Like if his dream woman stood naked before him, but he couldn’t reach her. 10. There was a Viking ritual where they stripped naked, took hallucinogenic mushrooms and literally went berserk. Also Berserk means „bare chested“ 11. Ding Dang Dong. Reference to French nursery rhyme „Frère Jacques“, meaning Brother John. Richard had a brother named John who became King after him. 12. Bells would ring, whenever there was a Viking Raid. 13. Richard‘s major adversary was Sultan Saladin („salad in“), whom he could never fully beat. 14. Richard was captured by German nobles and mercenaries. His Mother had to pay for his (King‘s) Ransom. 15. He died in incarceration, when the wound from the crossbow bolt became infected and gangrenous. Ragnar easily won this one.

Ragnarr died by being thrown into a pit of snakes and his son was nicknamed "Boneless" That's why Richard's 1st verse hits really hard for me.

A couple of things that I noticed people miss. The Royal me "we" is when you refer to yourself as more than one person because you are that important When he mentioned Sean Connery appearing at the end, that could also be taken as a reference to James Bond vs Austin Powers Richard also mentions that he swings a mace and spits like a snake. I take that as a reference to Mace pepper spray And Ragnar's second verse he Loosely quotes Frère Jacques immediately after referencing monks to which the nursery rhyme is about

Yo, time to put to use that usually useless history knowledge: The spit/snake pit bar is a reference to Ragnarr being killed by being thrown in a pit full of snakes byt the king of Northumbria in his story. The shield wall/battering ram part may just be a way to throw medieval war related innuendos or it could be a reference on how shield walls were the most famous viking/Ragnarr tactic while Richard participated in many sieges (and I think suffered the wound that eventually killed him in one). The boneless wings part is because one of Ragnarr's five (or six depending on the story) sons was called Ivar the Boneless. Arguably the most famous of his sons, besides maybe Ironside. The Red Cross is a reference to the Red Cross foundation, which is an aid and relief charity organization, and a red cross is also the flag of England. The "your lady can't feel the love on any night" bar is a reference on Richard dying without heirs (legitimate children). The end of the Plantagenet line is a reference to the fact that Richard was the last king of the Plantagenet noble line. And the speak english bar I think is a reference to the fact that said line came from France. The shaggy little pants bar is a reference to "Lodbrok", which isn't Ragnarr's last name, but a nick name, which means "furry/shaggy pants"... not the most frightening nickname for the most famous raider of scandinavia. The invented the royal "we" is because it was around his time that european royalty started refering to themselves as "we" instead of "I" to represent that they were the State. Don't know if Richard was the one to actually start it though. The fictional bar is a reference on Ragnarr's existance being debatable at best, likely a junction of differing kings' stories. While Richard is a definitely historical king.
@SpearM30643 жыл бұрын
"Your lady can't feel the love on any night" is also a reference to another song from The Lion King. Specifically, "Can you feel the love tonight" by Elton John. When they were first married, she was too young (she was only 10), and when she _was_ old enough, he was away at the Crusades. Also, it's been suggested that he might have been homosexual, or at least bisexual. Richard the First was NOT the last king of the Plantagenet line. Richard the Third was. (To be fair, you didn't say _which_ Richard, so you might've been talking about Richard the Third.) Also, Richard the Third suffered from scoliosis (curvature of the spine), which is what Ragnar was referring to.

actually battering rams were used in medieval times as well. back then they were massive logs that would be held by 4 soldiers that would be using it to smash through an enemy gate or a weak part of an enemy wall to lay siege on their city or castle
@SpearM30643 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but they normally wouldn't be used against a _shield_ wall, they'd be used against a _castle_ wall. The "shield wall" bit was a hymen joke.
@lordreptilestormblade17493 жыл бұрын
@@SpearM3064 "hymen joke" I assume you mean a sex joke. if so I don't think either have a hymen given how thats part of a vagina. Richard, Lodbrok, and the mentioned Saladin are all men. also I was correcting his confusion about police battering rams which are far weaker then the siege battering ram as it can't produce enough force by comparison.

Yo Munfu, a bar you liked but missed a second meaning to was the "Vikings in Minnesota" line. Back in 1898, a farmer in Kensington, Minnesota, knocked over a tree on his property, and found a Runestone burred underneath the tree. It's still debated if it's legit or not, but the runestone is supposedly from Viking explorers who laid claim to the land of Minnesota all the way to the Atlantic ocean. What happened to these vikings who traveled so far into central North America is unknown or if they really existed at all. So... Richard would go fight loser vikings in Minnesota... as well as the football team.
@Halbu8033 жыл бұрын
Richard was not a virgin, he actually dislike being married because he didn't want to wed, just sleep around but his marriage was planned and his wife was 10ish and he didn't find her attractive cause she was a child. But that then leads to allegedly being gay or bi.
@KawaiiKasai3 жыл бұрын
Came here second, so I've only seen it 3 times so far. I'm still deciding. I think Ragnar landed more heavy hits, but I also wish Ragnar would have landed some hits about Richard's parents (more than his mom paying the ransom) who were SUPER messed up. I'm talking mommy dearest tried to have their son kill his father messed up. It's literal Shakespearean drama level stuff and could have provided some easy punches Other than that great battle :)
