What an awesome looking and nicely equipped bike! Excellent review by the way. That sliding dropout is really nice and does provide that extra flexibility... Nice work Trek. Picked my 9.6 up last week. loving it! coming off a 2018 Fatboy (base) which my 13 year old son will be using now. He’s coming off of a 24” Fatboy which is going to my daughter. Now, do a buy some wrap for the 9.6? I feel like a should as I never saw myself spending this much on a bike. I’ve never protected a bike in the past.

Almost purchased a 2021 Farley Carbon, for my GF. An XL frame size, sitting in the backroom of a Catskills, NY bike shop, with a hefty amount of dust. Never forgiven Trek, for being Oblivious & Apathetic, to Lance Armstrong. Ended-up purchasing the Rocky Mountain Blizzard 30 carbon. She's rides-it more than I get ridden.

Nice Bike. However at this price my only negative is the dropper post( not smooth) and plastic dropper lever (feels cheap). The PNW set up will be going on it. Thanks for the review James

I saw one at the bike shop today. Cool looking bike, but not for me. I'd like to get a Dual Sport next to take on camping trips. BTW, I love my FX-4. I took it for it's maiden voyage 2 days ago.

I had a dual sport before also. After one ride I sold it for same as what I bought it for. And went for a trek marlin instead. I guess I just like bigger tires.

@@ThanhTLam1 I don't picture myself going off road. Do they make tires for the Marlin that are less aggressive that would be more suitable to gravel or rough paved roads?

I got one an love it. But the Barbegazzi are not good snow tires. I had to swap them for the Gnarwhal. It is sad because de less expansive Farley 5 comes with Gnarwhals. I use my fatbike exclusively on snow or as a backup for my mountain bike in summer.

So interesting, On my Farley 5 I swapped from the Gnarwhal to the Barbagazi because I preferred it from a previous gen Farley.

Try a Gnarwhal in the front and Barbegazzi in the rear. Ideal combo for grip and rolling speed.

2 in wide might be a little too narrow, causing the bottom bracket height to be low. But this bike begs for a set of 29x3.0 plus size tires for the summer

Awesome bike! How does it compare to the Salsa Beargrease?

So luckily I have owned several fatbikes over the years as well such as the Farley 9.6 (2016, but it is the same frame as the current one.) Having also owned a few aluminum Farleys I have a good sense to how they ride. The short of it is, I get roped into the Farley because it has a very good value proposition, but the fit doesn't work for me. On most brands I fit a medium, and on Trek I fit their M/L (18.5"). The Farley is only available in S,M,L, XL and that has never jived perfectly for me. So on-trail performance I think the Beargrease is the winner. It has a better ride feel to me, fits really well for me (5'8/9 - 30" Inseam) in size medium and handles like a mountain bike on dry. It also is better setup IMO if you plan on adding packs. The Trek however has the sliding rear dropout and better tire clearance. I think the Farley rides ever so more compliant and smooth. It's downfall is the super short and upright position is not as fun in the dry. Going slow in snow it might be better than the Beargrease. I also find bag and bottle clearance limited because of the super sloped top tube. Idk if that helps you. Both are good bikes in their own right, but I intend on keeping the Beargrease longer term as personally I have really jived with that bike.

I bless God himself for giving Me one😈🤘. It is now 2 weeks, full of joy. In Europe, this bike was hard to get. They give some Farley 5-s, but lack of 9 6 and will not give the 7 at all... yet I have one.The 9.6 In person... And what can I say- only wish myself for more free time to ride. And since I am a dude with meat on my bones, only thing to critizise is about the dropper- ot needs a upgrade. But in general, I used to be an Alu believer, scared to carbon... But now, nothing I used to fear, makes sense. It is light, capable, fast and good looking😈... wish all Farley 9.6 owners a smooth ride! Trek On! Plus one thing more- the chain guard or front deraillieur option, 3 dots there, should be protected with a black rubberish protector, that my bike has. This keeps those holes clean and overall looking a bit better. If this one of Yours is from Landrys, then ask and do look for it! Might seem a little "something", but it needs to be there! At least factory set it up that way🤘

It might be priced a tad high but what isn’t anymore? I’m glad there isn’t shock, I’d rather have the less weight in the front and overall. i guess that’s what the F7 is for. Which is costing more now a days too. :(

If you're riding primarily on smooth groomed single track you may not need front suspension but for rougher trails that have frozen divots from hikers or even all season fat biking front suspension is a big plus.
