More of this Jay. I'm not a modder, but all of this helps people learn how to mod a case to get things to fit. More of this with watercooling in cases as well. One of the reasons (besides extreme cost) I haven't custom water-cooled my latest build is I can't seem to figure out how to get things in that case.

Unfortunately, real bullet holes don't have quite the dramatic effect you'd expect. Especially with actual steel that thick instead of aluminum, your need something bigger than your average target or hunting round to go through, and it wouldn't look like an explosion.

For anyone who enjoyed the expanse show, I can't recommend the books enough. Every season is essentially one book and there are 3 more books than seasons. I first watched 5 seasons of the show and the books where great enough for me to plow through the first 5, where I already knew the story, in about 2 months. it's now comfortably my favourite book series of all time. The show did a great job, which is surprising enough considering that some of the books strongest points are almost impossible to translate to a visual medium. Like the absurdly detailed and well-researched technical descriptions and the immensely informative and introspective POVs.

Jay the expanse is probably one of my favorite shows of all time. For your star wars build don't be afraid of the aio I have an Enermax aio with an inline pump has lasted 3 years and never had to even add water, still going strong!!! Here's an idea for your Jay'sCinante build...btw your rail gun "explosion" is perfectly amazing but my idea is the blue alien protomolecule stuff that they find should be like attacking the chassis maybe from a bottom corner and then you should try to find some guns or something because the rocinante is a Martian Gunship and lastly in memory of the belter detective Miller you should have his hat, maybe a small one either on top or hanging off the side!!! Lastly i have to say that the tubing idea on the outside would be good to represent the concept of oxygen in space and also you could put some sort of solar system coordinates on the outside with some paint or even like a drawing somehow!!! I can't tell you Jay how much I love this build I love star wars and space and the Expanse is an amazing realistic show about how space life will really be like in the near future, Fantastic Idea bud... And Fantastic work from 1 enthusiast/modder to another!!!

If you have a Resin 3D printer the damage area could have some sort of crystal/explosion residue (think clear resin for RGB ) coming out (alternatively use transparent/clear PLA). You could use opaque/cloudy water cooling pipes with RGB strips for effect on the outside, for more dramatic visuals.

I have a whole internal hierarchy of vocabulary for the greeblies. Greeblies vs doodads for instance. If it has any moving parts/animated material textures or is just a little too busy to be a singular greeblie it is a doodad. Greeble is strictly a verb IMO, not a noun. I dunno tho I do 3D CGI crap, the propmakers could have entirely different opinions.

Although it would somewhat go against the work you've already done, one thing that's true about the Rocinante, especially later in the books, is that it is a patchwork of repairs and tacked on items (including the railgun). You could do some haphazard "repair" to the hole that seals the hull but looks rough to reflect how they often fixed things in transit after battles.

I think having some of the damage look like it was repaired and some of the damage looking newer would be a cool way to build this case. Not sure exactly how but maybe a few "hand welded" or 'riveted" panels mostly covering damaged areas and then roughly painted might work to convey the idea that this ship has been through a lot but is still in the fight. Looking forward to your progress with this one!

just an FYI, in space metal can oxidize, in fact it happens faster than here inside our atmosphere. some anti corrosion metals end up just building a crust on its surface and end up eliminating the oxidation process all due to oxygen existing in a single molecule instead of o2 form.

you might want to consider a flat piece of metal that looks like a " food tray " over the hole held in place with expanding foam. Similar to how they had to stop a hull breach. I know I'm a couple days late on something for such a huge channel but I do have a mild suggestion for both the old SW project and this new project. Look at model kit battle damage techniques to help add to the realism with the battle damage. There are a LOT of techniques that are applicable. If you can do it to plastic doing it to metal is kind of easier. Oh, and if you want to simulate oil splatter or something use a smoke color paint with some rust color and a little thinner.
