@celebrim1 Жыл бұрын
Very few of those old European players have ever made a big impact in MLS. Zlatan was probably the best of them, but he wasn't retired and went back to Europe afterwards, and even he couldn't bring the Galaxy to greatness. Most Europeans think of MLS as a retirement league because they never watch MLS and they only here about it when some player they do know comes over here to to play. But that doesn't mean that the league is dominated by older players. It's in fact younger and more diverse than most European leagues. Rooney warned Messi how grueling MLS can be. Winning tournaments is how teams in the MLS stay relevant to fans, but the good MLS teams only focus on league matches because that's were all the money and all the fan interest is. It's only when you think you can't win the MLS cup that you start looking for other sorts of hardware. It's important to remember that Miami was the worst team in the league before Messi but they had already advanced deep into the tournament without him precisely because they cared and the better teams didn't.

There word you are looking for is "competitive". We aren't the strongest league in the world, but the distance between the best team in the league and the worst team in the league is smaller than any other league. The enforced parity means that it's hard for any team to get a huge advantage except by excellent coaching and management. It's very hard to win with just money in MLS, and you can't win by buying a rival's good players.

Noonan lost this match, made bad decisions with the changes and the team got worse, he also spent all the changes, and then during the extra time Acosta and Barreal were exhausted and couldn't get changed.
@celebrim1 Жыл бұрын
Noonan was definitely out coached, and beyond that it was clear that the Crew fitness coach had done a better job this season and preparing for the game than Cincy. And I also think that Noonan made the same mistake as Pareja in that he overthought this match and asked his team to adjust too much to what Columbus does. IMO, both Cincy and Orlando have a better more complete team than Columbus, but both made the mistake of over respecting Columbus and changing their game too much from what they did to get to that point. Orlando decided to adjust to Columbus by bodying us. They almost got away with it. They had committed like 11 yellow or red card worthy offenses prior to the sending off. But it wasn't the sending off that was the worst thing for Orlando, it was there attempt to disrupt our gameplay disrupted their gameplan more than it did our own. You could tell after the sending off that Orlando when they went back to their game was a better team down a man than they had be on equal terms. We were literally holding on against 10 Orlando players for the last part of that game and they had the upper hand. Had they not been coached to body us and been distracted by trying to be the physical team (as if they were Houston or something) I think they would have won. In a more subtle way, I think FCC made the same mistake. Noonan had a good gameplan for beating us. He was gaggenpressing our back line hard and he was stuffing the box with a pentagram of 5 players in the goal mouth that made it basically impossible to get a good look at the goal from open play with our starting line up. And it was working. We could shoot but everything was getting blocked out. And we were getting pressed off the ball in the first 25 or 30 minutes especially. The trouble is that FCC kept trying to geggenpress us for like 90 minutes, and I don't watch FCC much but I'd guess that is not who they are as a team. The result of chasing the ball around for 90 minutes when that isn't what you normally do is that their entire team gassed out. Acosta is the one that got noticed, but basically everyone on FCC including the subs were on rubber legs for the last 35-40 minutes of play. Something went bad wrong with their conditioning. Maybe they over trained. Maybe they should have stopped pressing and focused on the low block/counterattack after 45 minutes. But something went bad wrong and whatever it was comes down to coaching in some fashion. And so for that second time in 9 years, I feel the league awarded "Coach of the Year" too quickly. Berhalter should have won in 2015 after out coaching a series of more talent teams with a budget minded group of role-players, and Nancy should have won this year for fielding a team with 9 attacking players several of which taken from our second division squad and making it work. What other team could sell off one the league best players and actually get better?

Before American players was underrating what they capable of in pro soccer but now, everybody wana be in world map common
@celebrim1 Жыл бұрын
"is capable of winning championship with any team in europe" I wouldn't go that far. I think that MLS largely overlaps the English Championship and that the upper end of the league is as good as the lower end of Serie A or Ligue 1, but there is still a massive gulf between even the best MLS teams and European super clubs. We've got a ways yet to compete with the upper end of most European leagues just because European leagues are so top heavy.
