Columbus is one of the original members of the MLS. A time before guys like Messi would ever consider playing in the league. The league has come a long way, and the Crew have been there from day one. Even surviving an owner trying to move them to Austin Texas. Congrats Crew fans!!!

If Orlando hadn't changed their identity too much and over respected the Crew and hadn't tried to be the team that they aren't facing us in the playoffs, then I full think Orlando would have hoisted the trophy this year. Fundamentally, Orlando lost that game solely because they'd been coached to try to disrupt our game by playing physical, and that was not only unnecessary it disrupted their play and eventually earned them a well-earned red. Orlando was good enough to beat us without the shenanigans, as they proved both regular season and when they went back to their game when a man down. See you next year in the playoffs.

Everton fan here, from Liverpool. I never took American sport loyalty seriously because you can move franchises between cities, what is that?! Then I saw a documentary about how you guys saved the club. You stood up to soulless corporate interests and WON. That made American "soccer" history but it also made American sports history full stop. This just doesn't happen in American sports but you MADE it happen. Being from Liverpool I always felt like Ohio would be a state I'd like to visit, whose people I would understand, good people, salt of the earth people, and I always remembered you for having your 3 biggest cities being with C; Cleveland, Cincinnati and of course Columbus. And the Crew had fallen on hard times - just like Everton. And you are a FOUNDER member of the MLS just like Everton are founder members of both the football league (1887) and the premier league (1991). They wanted to take that from you but they DIDN'T. You fought for your club against all odds, againat all American sporting convention, and won. I've followed you guys on and off ever since. So happy for you. Columbus Crew have a pedigree no-one in US soccer can match. Enjoy!

All MLS coaches need to study what Nancy did this year. Everytime we (Supporters Shield winner FCC) played them this year, it was like they were playing a league above us. What they did to LAFC in the final only furthers that assertion. If all of MLS can rise to that level of play we are definitely on equal footing with any top-flight European league.

LAFC fan here. Man I love Hollingshead but he was getting cooked all game. Did not play well at all. Not saying he’s the reason LAFC lost but that second goal was on him although that assist was pretty epic. Take away that controversial penalty away too and it’s a different game. It wasn’t meant to be though. Long ass season for LAFC too. They’ll learn from this but Columbus wanted it more. They played with way more heart all playoffs. Congrats to the crew

Penalty wasn't actually controversial. Despite Taylor Twellmann being unaware of it, IFAB took out the "off the body first" portion of the law, now it is primarily, making the silhouette bigger. His arm was definitely away from the body, so call was cut and dried.

The Crew will loose less than 5 games in next year's regular season. That's my prediction, if the owners let Nancy sign 2-3 of the players he wants this team will be monstrous next year.

This was a great game. The 2nd Columbus goal was a team goal worthy of winning MLS CUP. I just wish MLS would have more games, mainly playoff games on TV. I will not pay Apple to watch soccer. Also a playoff system that is not made for Apple would be nice. If you want more games have 2 world cup style groups in each conference with the top two in each group advancing to the conference semi-finals. Group A, seeds 1,4,6,8. Group B, seeds 2,3,5,7. The 1 & 2 seeds have all 3 home games. The 7 & 8 seeds get no home games. The 3 & 4 seeds get 2 home games and the 5 & 6 seeds get one against the lowest seeds. This will help give more meaning to the regular season as well.

MLS is always in a tough spot, playoff-wise, caught balancing reasonable length regular season, a November international break, and weather concerns for many teams. Other than the inevitable Int'l break, I didn't mind this system. I prefer the best of 3 to the home/home aggregate style, which led to some horribly tentative 1st games.

Congrats to the crew and to Nagbe who now owns 4 MLS Cup wins. The worst decision the Portland Timbers ever made was letting Nagbe go.
