Fortunately these are solved (at least temporarily) and approximately one month ago I started working for the channel once again. good thing you put them in chronological order I just wish you explained to us their authors, they can get confusing. can you do the same for epic of Gilgamesh I heard it had different versions too.

The authors get confusing because these started as poetic oral tales and became literature only later in the classical period, and only really circulating out of Greece as literature after Alexander the great.

Unfortunately, since the authors are semi-legendary, we know next to nothing about them. The only thing I can remember from my studies for this video is that there were scholars who claimed that Stasinus was given the poem 'Cypria' as a gift by Homer, for his daughter's dowry, and therefore it was not Stasinus who wrote the poem, but Homer. However, the majority of the scholars do not accept this narrative.

To what extent did the Troy Book of Quintus of Smyrna incorporate material from the epic cycle? Ditto Dictys the Cretan and Dares the Phrygian ? I've read the Troy Book and it covers a lot of the same territory as the Epic Cycle. I know it was written in the 3rd Century A.D. It's really quite good, but I've never been able to get into Dictys or Phares.

Honestly I can see Achilles falling in love with a dead woman... That he killed no less. The ancient Greeks had some strange events that seemed to be taken at face value in general terms i.e. Zeus turning into a bull, seducing a beautiful girl and producing offspring. Did no one ever think that it was a bit odd for a girl to fall in love with a bull and have it's baby? Of course not. It was ancient Greece lol.

You are forgetting Pasiphae and her love for a White Bull then giving birth to the Minotaur. One of the few books I ever decided not to finish was a novel written by an American woman author from Maryland. It was about this very subject, and it told me a lot more than I cared to know about what it feels like for a woman who is in love with an animal and obsessed with the idea of copulating with the object of her desire (who didn't seem much interested in a cross species romance.) Pasiphae had Daedalus build her a device which looked like a heifer and by concealing herself inside it, she was able to finally consummate her love. I cannot remember the name of the author or the title of the book but, trust me, it was beautifully written and and loathsomely believable.

Well, I repeatedly mention how the poems of the Epic Cycle (excluding the Iliad and the Odyssey) have not survived today and that we have only tiny fragments that we can study. I even mention the sources of these fragments during 1:48-2:41. It is because I read about these remaining fragments that I could provide short summaries for each of these epics.
