We have done the Dempster three times, twice all the way to Tuk and once to the Arctic Circle. The trick to surviving it is to slow down. The difference between doing it at 90 km/hr or 70 km/hr is something like 4 hours. If you are doing 90 and bust a tie rod end or a lower control arm you can wait 4 days for a tow truck and they don't take AAA up there. Make the journey as important as the destination.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Yes we made sure to go pretty slow. We encountered many people with flat tires (some with multiple) and my guess is because they were going fast. We told ourselves from the start that this adventure is just as much about the journey as it is the destination!

Love how undeveloped (and perfect) the park and area are. Like many people pre-2020, we were "supposed" to go to the actual Patagonia. This really does loom similar. Those mountain ranges look ridiculous in the fall.

These mountain peaks of "Canada's Patagonia" are truly epic! I've enjoyed the fall colors in the Uintas and Wind River Range this season. It's so cool when the clouds clear out for even just a bit so it opens the views, or the 'peek of the peaks':) The helicopter scene reminded me of a short vlog I recently watched about how the NPS deals with poop, cause a honey wagon can't go everywhere. Another great vid! On to the next one.

@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
We didn't really do anything remote in Alaska because there aren't roads to get there. You have to fly to get to remote Alaska. So if you ask us at the moment we'd say remote Canada because there are roads to get to some of it. Also, Canada is much bigger so there are more options to get more remote. Hopefully that makes sense! Thanks for watching!
@WhenAdventureKnox2 жыл бұрын
The jagged-y-ness of those peaks reminds me a little of the Grand Tetons which I loved. I still remember the first video of yours I watched was from there. But I think the peaks of this range is even more intense and I see why it's called the Patagonia of Canada 😍 The helicopter drop off was awesome to see, I imagine that doesn't happen too often. The campsite looked very well set up too, especially the eating and cooking tent. Never would have thought that was there! A shame you didn't get to camp here, but a good reason to return! Loving how autumnal this is, and exciting that you hope to have 2 months of it. It's slowing beginning to turn here in the UK and it's super pretty!

Quite different scenery from the more forested areas that you have been in prior to this. When you said in the last video that you were going north I guessed that you were going on the Dempster highway, but I figured that you were going only as far as the Arctic Circle. So jealous. Driving the Dempster is next on my list. I'd need 10-14 days off to enjoy it from Anchorage at a comfortable pace. Another great video. Most likely the helicopter was flying the outhouse barrels. 😉 That is a nice campsite setup in the backcountry. I'm surprised that you didn't camp overnight. Excited for the rest of your trip on the Dempster. Are you two going to drive to Yellowknife?
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Yes 10-14 days sounds about right. It is quite the journey especially from Anchorage! That was our guess too about the barrels The campsite was really neat. When we planned to go out there a few months ahead of time all of the permits were taken. Then when we hiked out to the lake we saw lots of open sites. The ranger that was there said there are usually a lot of last minute cancellations. By that point it was too late. We didn't make time to backpack No we didn't go to Yellowknife. After this journey we had to start making our way south Thanks!
@srameypr2 жыл бұрын
WOW! I can see why they call it Canada's Patagonia! Those peaks are insane! I am a map freak so at the start of your video, I opened up Google maps sat view and immediately figured out where you were hiking to because those peaks stand out as so different from those around them. What amazing scenery! How far into the hike did you have to go to get a glimpse of them?
