I learned a lot about Transformers lore thanks to Transformers Prime. That show explored and do a lot of creative and interesting story. Like Primus and Unicron are the equivalent of god and the devil, the 13 Original Primes, that each cybertronian job is decided from their alternate modes when they are born from the well of sparks, etc.

Yeah. Other than the two robots being iconic good guys, there is no rhyme or reason for this battle. The first Gundam show proud itself from injecting much-needed realism to the Mecha genre at the time by making the giant robot's power more down to Earth and more believable compared to the Super Robot shows before it. Optimus being a Super-Robot will obviously wipe the floor with Gundam but that's exactly the point of the Gundam show.

Though there are definitely Gundams that *could* have beaten Optimus. For instance, the 00 Raiser or 00 Qan[T] likely would have completely shut down Optimus' primary means of dealing damage, due to both Gundams having a GN Field (which counters pretty much everything except for physical melee weapons) for defense, and if that failed they could just "quantize" themselves and literally turn intangible. And that's without even considering their TRANS-AM systems, which temporarily triple the machine's capabilities. It's also likely that the Barbatos Lupus Rex would have been a *huge* problem for Optimus, since pretty much all of Optimus' weapons are energy/beam based, and the Barbatos has Nanolaminate armor which is virtually impervious to energy/beam weapons. And that's without the Barbatos activating it's Alaya-Vijnana system and/or disabling it's limiters. I suspect that even something like the Wing Zero could have beaten Optimus due to the raw power output of it's Buster Rifle (which is powerful enough to destroy an entire space colony in a single shot).

​@gamester512 you mention Optimus' energon ax and blaster yet you ignore the fact Transformers use physical weapons more than mobile suits in other Gundam universes. Barbatos has no beam weapons himself. Blunt and physical force is an area where Transformers greatly surpass Gundam in. Optimus' Star Saber could cut a large part of a mountain, Megatron could destroy a city with his railgun and tanked a satalite drop more powerful than a nuke, and Victory Saber survived a planetary explosion. Barbatos should be the easiest Gundam for Optimus to fight aside from the other early UC mobile suits. And Optimus has beaten Megatron while he was amped on ore-13 which made Megatron angrier.

TRIVIA TIME 1) The connections between Optimus Prime and the RX-78-2 Gundam are that they are both iconic 80's giant robots that are the classic staples for their respective franchises, as well as legendary symbols of their respective alliances (the Autobots and the Earth Federation, respectively). Nightwing is Dick Greyson, the original sidekick to Batman, and he went by Robin at the time. When he grew up, he moved to a new city that's even more effed up than Gotham, gave himself a new name and costume, and became his own hero outside of Batman. There were several other people who became Robin to partner with Batman after that point, but they won't be all that relevant to the next battle.

Basically it’s giant mech sunscreen that allows it to go into one planet’s atmosphere for free. They probably glazed over it in the analysis because it wasn’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Oh, and to answer your question about who NightWing is, they’re Batman’s former sidekick: Robin. Well, “a Robin”. Batman has actually had multiple sidekicks take the name, but NightWing was the very first one.

A Little Info about Both Franchises, Hope You Find it Interesting Gundam: Starting in 1979, the franchise has spanned multiple series, which has stimulated the creation of hundreds of Gunpla model kits. There are over 30 different Gundam series and films available currently. These series are divided into 10 timelines with the original being from "Universal Century". He may be right. 1 Cube of Energon contains 1000 Barrels of Oil. This means each cube contains the equivalent power of 42,000 U.S. gallons of crude oil. If refined into gasoline (with a conservative 30% yield ratio) that much oil would keep Bumblebee's Volkswagen alt mode (with a rough value of 40 miles/gallon) going for approximately half a million miles without needing to refuel! Despite winning, Prime decided to commit suicide _because he accidentally killed some NPCs._ But don't worry, the guy who made the videogame backed up his data *ON A 5 1/4 INCH FLOPPY DISK.* Also regarding the movies, that's an entirely separate continuity, and thus a completely different Optimus Prime. I love how smart Optimus is. He wasn’t aiming for the gundam when he fired his weapon. He was aiming behind him to cause an explosion and launch the gundam towards him and then just smack him away. Plus a lot of people don’t realize the reason why prime attacked. Number one they were fighting on the ark. You know the thing that allowed them to get to earth in the first place. 2 the gundam is an intruder on the ark so prime attacked to defend the ark.3 reason why he shouts no. Noo! Is because the beam rifle’s final shot destroyed the ark and possible countless other auto bots on it in status. So prime was defending it and then avenging the auto bots that died when it exploded. Also at 17:48 he didn’t say “stop that” he said “not bad”

Transformers, like many other franchises, has a lot of interactions. So much so that there's an official multiverse, which has gone through many revisions in and of itself. But G1 Optimus (which this video mostly uses) had moments of being stupidly op compared to his later/alternate counter parts. Also, to put things into perspective on hie Big Unicorn is. His multiple incarnations are usually closer to Jupiter in size, though some of his incarnations were comparable to the Earth. In fact, Transformers Prime Unicorn WAS the Earth itself, he was just in a metaphysical dormant state eventually life just started on his body while he was asleep😂. But he would've grown in size of he was fully awake.

There are many Gundam show’s over a dozen not all in the same timeline Epyon is from Gundam Wing not the original show Mobile Suit Gundam. The lore of U.C. Timeline were the original gundam and like eight of the other titular gundam’s come from the is massive! but some knowledge. To be fair Zeon ( the space nazis) was originally just a movement for the colonies independence based on 2 new philosophies after the Earth Federation (the world wide government) had oppressed and extorted people living in the colonies as the were seen as the lower class of society after more than half the population of humanity to live in space. The original leader and founder of the ideology a peace seeking man Zeon Zum Deikum had died (most likely killed) but his best friend/advisor Dewing Sodo Sabi took the position of leader after claiming the guy left him as his successor on his deathbed. Soon after Sabi turned the recently independent side 3 colony the Republic of Zeon into a principality its guard into a military and had Zeons children targeted for assassination in secret. The ideology grew tensions that reached a full on war after some incidents. Not condoning the terrorist actions Zeon took but Earth Federation was corrupt as hell too. But yeah Optimus is was WAY Better more experience powerful and faster knew he was gonna win even if i love me some Gundam. Nightwing is Dick Grayson batmans first Robin after growing up to a young adult becoming his own hero he doesn’t want the batman title anyway even if he’s been forced to play the part a couple of times.

Well first created of 1976 Gundam was the quintessential end of the giant robot superhero genre and the beginning of what can be described as the real robot genre. Tansformers 1984 pretty sure is the very last of the superhero giant robots. It’s no wonder that Optimis won. But it is my opinion that Gundam is just as if not bigger that Star Wars in Japan. With multiple timelines/continuities dozens of shows, movies, manga, and millions upon millions of plastic model kits called Gunpla. Gundam is arguably the biggest original IP in the East with a massive following in across the planet.

But moreover, super robo anime was more about the giant monster of the week and had little overarching stories. Gundam changed everything. Still not as hard science like The Expanse but it was enough to influence an entire industry to stray away from previous norms. And because of that we have Neo Genesis, Blu Seed, Patlabor, Apple Seed, Macross, and Cowboy Beebop to name a few. Neo Genesis even harkens back to a time before Gundam.

That's another reason people don't like it when you skip a Death Battle due to "spoilers", you potentially skip the battle that aired right after because they're not on the playlist. I LOVE both Transformers and Gundam, so some of what you might say will trigger me. 1:38 "G1" is short for "Generation 1", AKA the first generation of Transformers back in the 1980s. 1:56 That was Grimlock, the leader of the Dinobots, a group of Autobots that can transform into robot dinosaurs. Yes, it's as cool as it sounds. And he's also WAY too small to be Godzilla. 2:29 The Michele Bay movies are a separate continuity. Each continuity of Transformers is different (Prime has similarities to the movies but it's WAY better!). 2:58 The beef between Optimus and Megatron is different based on continuity, but here's an abridged summary of the most common version used in modern Transformers media. Basically, Optimus and Megs were originally called Orion Pax and Megatronus (sometimes, again varies based on continuity) who worked together to changed an oppressive system on Cybertron. But Megs starts getting power-hungry, Optimus is made a Prime, their friendship ends, and war breaks out, which eventually makes its way to Earth. 8:13 I... can't tell if you mean the actual ship in that shot or the space colonies. If the ship, spaceships in the Gundam franchise came in all shapes, so oxygen tank-shaped ones aren't that surprising. If the space colonies, they're closed-type O'Neill cylinder space colonies (a space colony is basically a supersized space station where people live permanently). The concept was created by American physicist Gerard K. O'Neill in his 1976 book "The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space". 19:45 Actually, Amuro's father did survive... but had brain damaged due to lack of oxygen. 20:48 Devastator is the combined form of the Constructicons, Decepticons who transform into construction vehicles. If you want to watch/react to a Transformers that isn't the movies, I recommend Transformers: Prime.

I haven’t seen a lot of Gundam, but the four I have seen were pretty good. First I saw was Superior Defender but I was a young child then and I don’t remember much except it was child friendly. For more serious series I saw Wing, then I saw the first arc of Age, and Iron-Blooded Orphans. Haven’t finished any yet but I think Orphans would be the best one out of the three so far, though Wing is the one I hear people starting with the most. Some things I have learned is that there are multiple timelines and are fittingly somber given that it’s a franchise about war. I heard there are some that are more upbeat but as I said I am still new.

There's two things that I've been a fan of for most of my life, godzilla and transformers. Seeing him in death battle *and winning* was so great for me. I probably wouldn't like this one as much as I do if optimus lost tbh.

I'm afraid you can't simply just make new transformers, aside from the early parts of the story where you could. While they are made of metal its living metal. As they developed the mythos it became less simple to create a new transformer and it was easier to just remodel an existing transformer than create an all new one. There were a few ways they could create new transformers. The Autobots built the Dinobots in a cave, but they were really dumb and quickly got out of control. Even after they figure out how to make them smarter they weren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the bunch. The Decepticons were stated to of built the Constructicons off screen after the war started up again, but a later episode showed they were around since before the war originally began and they were the ones who built Megatron. Magatron was also the one who made them evil, so there is some continuity issues there. After that they needed the computer Vector Sigma to bring new transformers to life. Other times it was called the All Spark. There was also the story that the quintessons built them originally to do their work for them, until they got to lazy to properly manage them and the transformers drove them off. Of course there was also the transformer god Primus who was said to of originally created them. G1 had a lot of writers. Transformers, regardless of gender, were also able to birth new transformers through fission, though I have never seen that animated. There is a distinction between living an non-living machines. In the comics, which was kind of all over the place, Optimus Prime held the creation matrix. The Decepticons captured him at one point and used him to create more Decepticons so he transferred the energy of the matrix to their human friend Buster Witwicky. This was before the crystal container was invented so it was just energy back then. There were also some side effects. When Shockwave, the leader of the Decepticons at the time, found out what had happened he sent Skyfire/Jetfire after him. Skyfire was next in line to be brought back to life but was used as a drone since Buster had run off with the matrix. Once they figured out it wasn't a living machine, as it clearly couldn't feel pain, Buster was able to take control of it with his new found powers, something he wouldn't of been able to do to a full fledged Autobot or Decepticon, later bring him to life as an Autobot. One of the side effects was control over non-living machines.

oh had this tab still open... among several others óO there are so man gundams cause every gundam show is its own story playing in its own universe besides the newer ones were it is just kids fighting with gundam-toys against one another - the older ones were more interesting were they always used one form of actual (historical) conflict as a base for the story -earth was ruler by a new form of nobility/aristocracy and the colonies in space wanted their indepence -humanities first genetically engineered human reveals his existence to the world and after some time the genetically improved humans in the space colony are at odds with the "purity movement" taking over earth itself -one genius human puts a long term plan for humanity in motion and gives a group of people he selected a set of gundams which they then use to threaten the whole world that whenever there is some armed conflict happening they will intervene... in the end it was still always big robots fighting in space but still interesting to put some form of food for thought into it... at least looking back it would have been far more interesting to watch gundam (seed) instead of Gattaca (1997 movie) :P mfg Olli

'he does what' ya, Unicron is basically the Satan to the Transformers like Primus is their God. Basically to simply 40 plus years of lore Unicron has a planet-sized body-which can also transform into a robot mode-and goes around consuming planets with the end goal to comsume everything in all the transformers multi-verse. Because of this primoral/god-like nature, in most continoues only the Matrix/Allspark-which often written as having a part of Primus, and Unicron only real equal-can can either destroy his body/temporarly delay him [from about the 90's until recently Unicron was written as while one could destroy his body in one universe, his 'spirit' would not be and simply moved to another universe to start again.

Another one of my top five favorite battles down. God I love this one. I’m sincerely surprised you bet against Optimus here considering your inherent bias toward speed. The only thing Amaro has against Optimus is his precognition, but anybody can tell you it doesn’t matter if you know what’s going to happen if you’re not fast enough to do anything about it. Even aside from that Optimus just straight up outclassed the gundam’s abilities several times over in every single category. Fun fact, Transformers is actually canon to Marvel comics thanks to Marvel having the license back in the day, so Optimus has stood alongside the likes of Iron Man and other absolutely insanely overpowered superheroes. That right there tells you how crazy strong Optimus is. XD Yeah the live action movies definitely don’t do him (or any other Cybertronian really) justice, but that’s a huge limitation on 1) live action media and 2) they had to shoehorn the human characters and make them still feel useful. The soundtrack to this battle is my all time favorite in all of Death Battle. It perfectly captures the rocking guitar feeling of classic Tranaformers and I just adore it so much. So yeah, the next fight is live action. There’s only been 2 live action battles so far, and both feature a member of Batman’s family. You say you have no idea who Nightwing is, but that’s not true at all. You know him, just by another name: Robin. The first Robin, aka Dick Grayson, aka my all time most favorite super hero ever. Period. Bar none. I love him more than life itself. So it’s no surprise who I root for in the next fight. XD Daredevil is cool too, I also really like him, but Nightwing is simply my number one forever. Yes, Thanos vs Darkseid is absolutely one of the battles that people look forward to the most and for good reason. You’ll see the clash of gods soon… but first you must see your first live action battle, the rematch of Mario and Sonic (make sure you watch that one all the way through until after the credits, that’s very important), and the battle of the androids! I’m excited to see you get into the new era of Death Battle!

This is a very loosided fight though. Other than the two robots being iconic good guys, there is no rhyme or reason for this battle. The first Gundam show proud itself from injecting much-needed realism to the Mecha genre at the time by making the giant robot's power more down to Earth and more believable compared to the Super Robot shows before it. Optimus being a Super-Robot will obviously wipe the floor with Gundam but that's exactly the point of the Gundam show. This is like pitting Captain America against Superman with no Kryptonite allowed. It's nowhere near fair. Lightyears far from being fair.

There are multiple versions of both fighters, but prime’s versions are 100% from different universes, not sequels like the gundam which can get stats very wonky for the former. The weakest is obviously the movie version (not Robots in Disguise 2000, he’s technically a different character named fire convoy) despite the clear difference in brutality and plot armor (lmao) he’d probably be the closest match to the original mobile suit.

the key factor here was that you needed to watch EACH OF THE TRANSFORMERS tv shows (minus G2 and the beast wars related ones, plus rescue bots) and you would have known that optimus dies only for the story but vs an enemy that's not part of the story, not so much
