@@John-r9y3j I forgot which item (maybe the Godfrey icon talisman?) talks about how Serosh suppresses the bloodlust and rage that Godfrey has for battle, so by killing him it releases that power and he returns to full strength. Love playing the games after learning all the lore for a new pov on certain things like that. But yeah, poor serosh too lol.

@@John-r9y3j _"Godfrey was a ferocious warrior. When he vowed to become a lord, he took the Beast Regent Serosh upon on his back to suppress the ceaseless lust for battle that raged within." - Godfrey Icon_ _"Weapon of Godfrey, Elden Lord. It was broken in a battle fought as leader of the Tarnished during the Long March. This weapon is symbolic of Godfrey's vow to conduct himself as a lord, later becoming an emblem of the golden lineage. In the days of the past, a crown was warranted with strength." - Axe of Godfrey_ _"When Godfrey, first Elden Lord was robbed of his grace, becoming Tarnished, he took with him his kinfolk and left the Lands Between. After the Long March of the Tarnished came to an end, Godfrey divested himself of kingship, becoming a simple warrior once more." - Remembrance of Hoarah Loux_ _"Headband reserved for the badlands' bravest. Proof that the wearer has slaughtered countless foes. Following the example of their chieftain Hoarah Loux, the brave warriors of the badlands shun excess adornment." - Champion Headband_ Hoarah Loux "vowed to conduct himself as a lord" when he became Marika's consort, taking the name Godfrey (if you know anything about Tolkien a similar comparison would be Aragorn taking the name King Elessar when he ascends the throne) and the beast Serosh on his back to suppress his natural bloodlust. When he first engages you in battle, he states "Alas, I am returned. Upon my name as Godfrey, the first Elden Lord." He's fighting you as the honorable Lord Godfrey, and he affords you the respect you've earned: "Long and hard didst thou fight, Tarnished warrior," "Tarnished warrior, twas nobly fought." Yet, when you get his health low enough, he decides he has "given you courtesy enough" and rips Serosh off his back in order to let his natural bloodlust flow back in and increase his power in order to match yours (sort of like Malenia puts aside her pride and dignity by embracing the Scarlet Rot to meet Radahn's measure and later yours). He casts aside his axe, armor, and royal blue cape, fighting bare-handed with only a loincloth and his crown as apparel, "shunning excess adornment." When he declares, "Now I fight as Hoarah Loux, warrior," he is throwing away the noble Elden Lord persona and embracing his true nature, the purest embodiment of a warrior, and expects of you to do the same. All of Hoarah Loux's power comes from himself, he doesn't need weapons or protection or to steal it from others like Godrick or Gideon have been doing. He simply states, "A crown is warranted with strength" as he beats you to a pulp, and when you best him, he acknowledges your strength in kind: "Brave Tarnished, thy strength befits a crown." One of my favorite Elden Ring characters, despite his limited screen time.
