thanks Ethan! Ill be honest, my goal of doing a video a day has really been straining me......i work, then go hunt, then edit, then sleep, the go back to work......i don't know how much longer i can do it, plus I'm having a hard time getting boxes from banks because they don't want to work with me, so I'm hunting the same places over and over and at some point I'm going to run out of places to look.....im blessed to have a really good hunting area i guess, because i know 100% other people are hunting this area too, i find rolls with marks on them all the time, and the bank tellers always say, somebody just came in and asked for all the half dollars......im going to have to start doing more penny and nickel boxes i guess.....im really giving 110% to get you guys good videos. and i can tell people love em by the comments and the subscribers I'm getting.....i got 1000 subscribers in the past 30 days!!! so crazy! i just hope i can stay fresh and not bore you guys with the same kind of stuff over and over
@ethanglass44657 жыл бұрын
That is weird that banks where you live do that, my bank and others around me LOVE ordering boxes for me. By the way I like the penny and nickel videos anyway. I have been to every bank within 60 miles of me and I have only gotten 10$ in customer wrapped stuff, I really think that your youtube channel has brought life back to the coin collecting community. Keep up the good work! Ethan

I've got a question. Is the mostly 40% Silver JFK's that you find in you (half hunting adventure), worth more than the cost of gas, food, snacks, Fountain Drinks, and ware and tear on the vehicle, I.e. Oil changes, tune ups, and general maintenance? It seems to me that 40% Silver of a coin that weighs between 11.50 - 11.10 grams. So that is a whooping $2.69 per 40% JFK. Do you make a profit after all the costs incurred in hunting the coins? I am not trying to be Calais toward you, I'm just curious. Good luck on you hunt.

@HalfDollaMakeYouHolla7 жыл бұрын
never thought about that but possibly! whoever did it did it about 150 years ago
@johnnyblacksox47367 жыл бұрын
Materials for craftsmen were rare at that time, or expensive. The clipping of coins was a problem. Storeowners would often make a hole in large cents, and nail them on the wall for safe keeping during work hours. The excess copper from nailing then could be used.

A tip for handling old coins is to hold it by the rim not the middle so you don't damage it or scud it or wear it down.
@brucemccann8307 жыл бұрын
i dont really think it was used as a fishing wieght, 2 reasons, in the mid 1800s a penny was actually " money " and you could go to the store with only one cent and walk out with a purchase, also, look at how evenly matced the 2 notches are. Would someone care enough to make them that nicely mirrored just to through out into the river?
@HalfDollaMakeYouHolla7 жыл бұрын
honestly not sure, we've been talking about this all day.....i just don't know why they would do it.....if it was for jewelry it wouldn't really show the coin, the rope would go right through the middle of the coin......so what other reason would they do this? i bet it has something to do with a soldier doing something with it....just not sure what....would love civil war experts to lend a hand in explaining what they might have done this for
@BornsBallergies7 жыл бұрын
