Sirrah, I think the every best way to do all of this is to use the GroundConstruction mod. Especially for modules like domes and so on. I.E. Launch all non aerodynamic structures as a DIY kit, plus add the appropriate resources to build if you don't want to mine for them. I'd bet you could make it even MORE epic :-)

Upon seeing you dock with the freighter: Isn't that going to throw your center of mass off from your thrust vector? Upon you firing up the engines and having to constantly correct to point at the maneuver node: Yep, totally unstable. Maybe you could have moved fuel from the tanks close to the base to the tanks on the far side, if it's not completely full. Upon you landing the base: At this point, I would be using KIS and KAS to send an engineer out to remove the engines and tanks and attach them into a big ball of parts and punt into the EPL recycler for rocket parts. Also do wish you used something docking port alignment indicator or one of the aligning docking nodes so that constructions like this were properly aligned rather than "Eh, close enough" aligned.

That depends quite a lot what I want to figure out. Basic designs are rather quick as I have a tool setup for them, but in this video I was tearing my hair out over landing that base. Its CoM is in a really weird place so it was difficult to set a landing system that worked. I was considering landing each component separately with skycranes initially, but then I would need some construction vehicles on the ground to put it all together. Well anyway I spent a couple of hours testing the landing system for the base that worked :)

What you definitely need for Kharon to work are mods from USI suite: MKS, Life Support and FTT. I'm not sure if there are other modded parts though, I'm not the author of this amazing ship :)

It's the Umbra Space Industries (USI) mods; don't know the exact ones
