I do really hope they fix dvj and give him more of a character identity, cause rn he’s basically just shitty kazuya with gimmicks. I personally wouldn’t mind if his neutral stayed weak but he had crazy combo damage and punishment like Bryan.

Hey man, I've dropped the game after the demon paw nerf seeing how much more work it takes to win. I played devil Jin for the nostalgia of tekken 3 Jin. Coming home from a 9/5 job to stress out about playing a character that gives me nostalgia is just painful even with all the lasers you can chuck out. I still like devil Jin but to give a subscription of time for sweating in discomfort compared to other characters is just backwards to me. I agree he needs something and when it happens I'll be sure to pop in the game again to see if I can love my childhood again and feel good.

The worst part is keeping this character like this for half a year almost. He was nerfed immediately, and also nerfed again even when he was widely known to be bad, but at least it kinda kept him fresh, cause the game was changing, but now after so many months, and the meta consisting of broken braindead characters like drag, and even other broken easy characters like Feng being drobbep for not being as braindead, and the dvj putting so much effort for low reward, it gets old quickly.

Imagine if a new Mishima comes to the game (Heihachi's brother or smth) and they access a perfect electric by buffering df2. That would simply be unfair.

Banger video, Dvj is such a weird character, he has incredible tools for low/mid level ranked that just fizzles out so quickly the higher they go, Ive seen so many hard stuck purple rank dvjs (asia servers) who might as well be in orange/red rank with the way they play, but anyone who gets past that is usually always cracked, even Steve who you could say is difficult online at least has a stable difficulty curve in comparison as he at least has a decent reward for playing well in comparison

Devil Jin isn't as braindead as these people claim just because they don't know the first thing about the match-up. If people are contempt with stagnation, then good for them. That is what I'm trying to say. You could try reading twice before writing a comment on impulse instead.

14:32 thats what ive been thinking! I think this character is bad but has a lot of annoying moves and lets be honest the buffs are inevitably coming so it could possibly make him pretty overtuned and extremely insufferable to play against if he'd have his fundamental tools back (or buffed in other departments) PLUS the stupid gimmicky T8 shenanigans. The balancing team should think carefully about balancing this character in the next patch.

Ive been saying this since day one, everything devil jin does, other mishimas do better, 50/50s and set ups? Kazuya, rushdown and pressure? Reina, poking and space control? Jin and reina, damage? Kazuya (admittedly you cant complain about dmg in and of itself but kaz has way better launchers). So asiade from legacy or cool factor? Why play d.jin over kaz or jin?

I have to disagree with you slightly after playing kaz for five months straight, I found Dj to be alot harder to play. First I had to relearn ewgf and wavus because he doesn't have the buffer. And djs close range tools are severely lacking compared to kaz. Morning crow is great for whiff punishing, while wavus into hellgate or hellsweep look great but ultimately destroy the momentum created by a punish or wavu setup. Dj taught me how to be a better mishima player ( i play on stick) i no longer use kaz,reina or jins shortcuts as I can go for the djs inputs. But he really needs something up close, I wish he had kazs f4; b2,4 and i wish that djs df1 on ch had more stagger (or the same effect a kaz df2) and less of a zoom in effect , that move comes out so fast its easy for me to miss my punish opportunity. Alot of his CH routes are also really quick and strict which makes getting certain punishes hard for me. Anyway if you read this thanks for the inspirational dj content.

im a relly new DVJ player picked him up basically few months ago. all of his good moves feel like they come with a prerequisite, you doing X because you you've used Y, Yon CH gives you Z and it feels like they nerfed all his other tools to really emphasize using the previous aforementioned moves. even when i win i still feel awkward cause i had to play a a weird way with a huge amount execution to pull it off. it still feels good cause "i won with hard character" but ya'know

Ended coming back to this video. Make cd4,4 work like Hworang's new rising 3. Guarantees a 14f follow up which makes the risk of it feel evened out. Hell sweep now frontal tail spin or better carry & wall enders. or at the least leave them close for more oki options. Heat 2+3 removes gray health B3 is a good heat engage but needs to bounce on all hits. Extended fly3 rang a teeny tiny bit, you should be able u4 , 3

Good news I have never played Devil Jin outside of story...now for the bad news the roster is changing and its hard to tell what's going on with the tier list or how much it even matters. Because even though I've been playing nerfed characters...if I know the character for a longer period of time I tend to win more regardless of where the character is placed. Devil Jin was never in my roster so even if he was deleted it doesn't effect the conversation...the Reina and King nerfs were the first big scares that got me thinking about this stuff.

With due proportion, there are people who know the matchup even in orange ranks, which is stimulating but also astonishing to me because Devil Jin players are very rare to find in ranked. Also I'm glad to hear even a top player struggles making heat work, especially heat engager's follow ups.

Already knew this was coming one of this days 😂. The nerf was so heavy compared to the other character since what was lost was his core tools as the video stated not to mention the stance which was the mc 1 oki and the mc2 homing oki. Pile that on top of move that was downgraded version of tekken 7 and the new move that either super linear or launch punishable. Dj become trash sadly. Peps always yap about dj unreactable hs inspite all those regardless. Dj is one of the hardest next to kazuya only to have very bad reward for practicing him. For all of the fighting game ive played, this is the game or title that practicing the hardest heavy execution character are weak and those that are easy(drag,feng,nina,alisa,jin ) at least compared to mishima are very strong. Played dj at his first release and of course due to that , develop a sense of loyalty for the character that I grow up and journeyed with so its not easy to drop in favor of others. If it isnt because of that, ive already drop the character. Id rather he wasn't included in tekken 8 instead of seeing him like this. No string, no poking game (-6 + on almost anything) no good lows that will not kill you. The list goes on.

Incase anyone misunderstood the early disclaimer. You can SS2 your way to God ranks, before you actually have to fight your opponent. Ranking up is easy. Enjoying the character is hard.

I think DVJ is just one of several characters that need design philosophy shifts and reworks. For him, he's probably the easiest to alter/rework, just nerf the ham stuff a bit, strengthen the tekken tools a bit like that -3 df1 or even re-add the mid extension, and rebalance hellsweep risk reward. Maybe it goes back to tag 2, where only CH launch normal and heat only regular launcher. That way they can strengthen his tekken tools unhindered.

@@lll_Number_One Im saying that yoshi has better fundamental tools and overall much more solid pick than DVJ in T8. Although yoshi still has his BS setup game - he doesn't even need to use it because of how good other options are. DVJ, on the other hand, pretty much forced to use gimmicks that don't even work all the time (for example uf1 randomly hitting or whiffing in the opponent face etc), because they destroyed his fundamental tools. So my argument was that bamco preaching about personality in T8 is BS because how come DVJ now has to play like T7 yoshi (abusing oki situations, setups) and Yoshi can just play fundamentally and be more successful than DVJ in T8, when their personalities for decades been that DVJ was fundamentally solid char without any gimmicks (except mb u4), when yoshi had poor fundamental tools and had to rely on setups and gimmicks.

Df1 should be -2 or -1. It doesnt true combo into the extension and the extension itself is kinda meh. Also buff its range as a lot of df1s in this game have a lot of range, Jin's for example, and tracking to the right (as you said), . Bf2 should have tekken 7 properties. HS back to what is was at launch and/or give us a normal tornado instead of backturned one

It's funny I actually had the opposite experience I played Kazuya after a lot of Devil Jin and obviously he has a lot of strengths and pressure/reward but after a while I went back to DVJ and he was a breath of fresh air. Yes he struggles in all the ways you say but man Kazuya feels so soulless in tekken 8, after maining Kaz for years Devil Jin just has so much more life to him. I've taken a break from Tekken now I don't know if it's the direction of the game that's different or just the stupid approach to the balance I don't like I feel a bit burned out on the whole game now. Also I would add b4 to his core tools, but that still doesn't really change his overall game.

the hellsweep still scares me fighting dj, but dj lacks that crazy tekken 8 mental stack where you keep putting your opponent in nasty guessing situations. im not really scared to duck on dj until he has heat. but even if you lose the lead on dj, you land your heat engager, heal tons of grey life because you are constantly poking dj and he has to either mash a reversal or guess right. honestly i don't think the grey life removal matters very much, being top tier means you are allowed to attack more often than your opponent so its just as effective to stack even more grey life until its a guess for game situation. for example, if nina lands one of her removals, sure it means she can play more safe with a well secured life lead, but nina already has the safest and most oppressive neutral in the game. the basic mishima offense in this game also doesn't synergize with heat engagers the same way a character like reina can use +17 to force you to block multiple stance mixups which are not only difficult to defend against, but don't offer huge reward for the defender. changing around and adding more options for mourning crow to be useful as a pressure tool would line up for what t8 offense is shaping into.

Hard agree with you on the annoying matchup. The problem is that the fundamental tools this character has are so weak compared to the flurry of buttons with random properties the enemy is throwing out that you don't really have a choice but rely on the gimmicks like Shackle and B3 and pray the opponent presses. I also agree that this character is completely fine in ranked, at least up to the blue ranks which is where I'm at, but when I fight the occasional higher Tekken Prowess player I encounter I feel like I'm just an NPC waiting for the opponent to make a glaring mistake because they easily shut down all my options. Sure it's mostly because they're a better player, but looking at my move list I don't feel like I have many options to counteract what they're doing other than hard reads and better timing.

from what i see, it's true that deviljin lacks a way to erase grey health just like you say but i played deviljin for like 50 hours and something i noticed is that he lacks the move that spins the opponent (not tornado bound) aside from fly1 while characters like dragunov feng and victor have their fair share of it (drag with df3+4, feng with uf3 and victor with iai4,2) which they in fact are used in all their combos not saying a character need to have that move that can be apply easily in combos to be good but as deviljin stands right now with all the nerfed moves i'd say it'll definitely helps him my suggestion to bandai is (if they even read this comment at all) just bring back ff2's range back to where it should be (just like jin's, reina's and kazuya's) even feng's ff2 has better range and acts exactly the same as the mishima's also for the spinning move i'd say change dvj's uf4 into the spinning move for easy access

i honestly hate the devil jin hellsweep combo, the fact that it' takes so long with the laser shooting the second hit for tornado, instead of just first hit tripping them, and the stupid Mourning Crow to shooting laser in the air, that whole animation, i honestly hate it, and i say this as a long time DVJ player

Before the nerfs and all, I felt like heat & ff2 was the only thing that DJ had and then rest of the character was "average" Now that they took away heat smash range/tracking & ff2 range, he just doesn't feel the same and becomes unfun to play. I rather just play Kazuya, Reina or Jin at this point :/

They Need to make that 1+2 cancellable again. And I agree that back 4 does not need to heat engage. I feel like it works against you at times honestly. Not every move needs a slow motion cutscene when you land a hit 😂😂. Kinda kills the momentum. Great points about DJs Hellsweep and gray health. And I find it insane his Rage art still isn’t fixed “after” the patch aswell. Fun character but a lot of inconsistencies.

the problem with devil jin he got no easy safe mid laucher his diagonal down forward 2 to counter hit launch has been removed his launcher god fist is high his projectile chain is duckable and does not pose real threat one it hit you he can only follow up a forward 2,2 his forward forward 2 is your only safe mid but its stiff and not lethal that can end in juggle and devil jin have no modern spam 50/50 b.s and his problem is mishima moveset is been like the same ever since tekken 2 era and tekken 3 era but with few variations but the concept still remains so some player of long time tekken player are familiar with mishima moves..

No one got hurt more than DVJ for this. Generic d4 was THE low for high level DVJ play.

The higher in rank/level you go the more you do realize how much quality of life DVJ lacks. Something as simple as just having a decent df1 with string extensions becomes more and more noticeable. Lacking a solid mid to check movement or ducking exposes things like your full throw game not meaning crap. I got DVJ to Raijin, was super proud of myself but felt like i was having to try so hard OR i was getting bored hiding behind 3 moves. Started playing Yoshi/Zafina, got them both to tekken emporer with much more ease. Even on Zafina, im starting to feel the FOMO. Dont get me wrong she is very strong and her pressure/mix/evasion is amazing. But not having a 15 frame launcher while standing or from crouch. Having very low damage punishments. Only has a 10, 13, 16 frame punish game. And her none of her throws have any stage interactions or oki mindgames. They all just reset neutral. Those types of things just become much more noticed as you play against a roster doing it to you and once youve played a character that does have those things... it makes you not want to go back to them. I'll prob pick up Nina at some point.

the range of the armor blast is incredibly nerfed from t7. i LOVED the move in that game and now i dont even use it unless at the wall. a lot of times in the open youll eat the damage scream and they either block due to recovery frames for the opponent also increasing (another nerf) or it will whiff a lot anyways.
