Tbh, uprising is a D tier at best and an F at most. Ruined Newt to make convoluted ways to bring the kaiju back, had a cool idea with cyborg kaiju that were fan fic-y but cool and were waisted. Could’ve made cool zombie kaiju but that leads to the question of why do they still have jeagers? As well as Fan fic level writing, especially for the characters. And playing the troll song meme right before the final fight. And maybe I can’t be too harsh when the first film had a very final ending making it nigh impossible to make a good sequel… then don’t make it.

@@Dookieman1975 Can't argue with that. The fact that only three characters were carried over should've been a big enough red flag. Then they killed Mako, made Newt the villain, and all that left them was Gottleib. Like... Rahleigh's entire existence is kinda just ignored. Makes me really wish we got the originally planned sequel, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, which would've been directed by Del Toro again. But that got canned because of delays and said delays causing Del Toro to leave and work on his own projects, which turned out to be Pinochio. Considering how much of a success that was, I can't really blame him.

Some facts I've learned after being a fan for so long. Leatherback and Otachi (The gorilla and the bat kaiju) were able to take out Striker Eureka, Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha because they were DESIGNED to. Leatherback's EMP could shut down Striker and Typhoon, who were both "digital." He also had the bulk, size and strength to go toe to toe with Cherno Alpha. Otachi had the pincer tail to match Crimson Typhoon's Triple-Arms and the acid to deal with Cherno Alpha's heavy armor. The wings were also so Otachi could then travel across the globe after a successful attack, and designed with a baby in her so she could spawn offspring to continue the attack. Leatherback and Otachi were not designed with Gipsy Danger in mind specifically. As Gipsy is an old model, one that was defeated before. However with new weaponry (Gipsy never had the sword before) and a new pilot altering her fighting style, Leatherback and Otachi couldn't stand up, not with their tricks having been revealed to Gipsy before they fought her. Also, Gipsy might've been the first Jaeger to fall in combat at the beginning. The Jaegers they showed destroyed after that intro sequence were Mark 1's. Showing them destroyed after Gipsy was destroyed and the UN saying we're losing Jaegers faster than they can be built, means those Mark 1's were destroyed AFTER Gipsy in the timeline as well. Last fact: Slattern, the big Category 5 Kaiju went up against Striker Eureka, who is a Mark 5 Jaeger. That's why Striker was more capable of a one on one with Slattern. As Jaeger waves, Mark 1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5 are built to be equal to their Kaiju counterparts. So in theory a Mark 3 can go against a Category 3 reliably. Of course Striker has 10 kills, because in theory it was the Kaiju hitting above their weight class if they fought Striker Eureka.

There was a addition to this theory that the kaiju used these countermeasures , after drifting with Newton. Hence flying kaiju to fly over the walls. Also Newton was more involved in the other jeagers than gypsy which was rebuilt recently.

Yes, Gipsy is the 1st Jaeger to fall in combat because Knifehead is the 1st of the many to come Kaijus who displayed cunning and intelligence when combatting the pilots and their Jaegers. Also according to Travis Beacham (Writer for Pacific Rim), all remaining Jaegers were destroyed, the last one being Gipsy Danger but the destroyed part is ambiguous, were they destroyed by Kaijus? Scrapped for parts for better Jaegers? or Completely disassembled as there was no longer a need for them after the Rift closed?

But Otachi’s Wings was just another alternative for the Kaiju and only used it after losing her primary features (the Pincer Tail and Acid spitting sack in the mouth) from Gipsy Danger and even though Otachi wasn’t designed to face of against Gipsy, she still gave Gipsy a tough when it grew her wings and rammed the Jaeger on the buildings and on the ground but was underestimated by the sword installation that Mako used to take out the Kaiju while in the air.

It was because Newton had knowledge of the capabilities of the Jaegers they were currently using, so when they went into his mind they designed the knew Kaijus with this knowledge. It's not really a missable detail, it's a plot point

The way this movie is "shot" specifically the fights makes it so most of the time you either getting the perspective of the pilot's or someone whos watching from the ground up and with the actually weight of the robots and mosters being considered while they fight, it makes it look satisfying, because its supposed to be somewhat realistic, which is why a lot of people really despise the sequel

Facts, that's also a plus the first Godzilla Movie has over the Sequels. Camera Angles and placement, Background Setting given scale beforehand, Slowed Weighted Movement, Darker yet viewable color pallet, all combined for a 👌 time whenever the Kaiju are on screen (which admittedly isn't as much as the sequels).

Excellent kaiju vs mecha movie. Guillermo Del Toro is a fan of those kind of anime so he was perfect for this job. Don't worry about the sequel and definitely don't waste time with the animated series. They dropped the ball with those.

Something super cool that came from this gem of a mecha/kaiju movie, is the Mako Mori test. The requirements for passing the test is that a show or movie must have at least one female character with an independent plot arc, and that neither the character nor the arc exist to support a male character's plot arc.

stuff i figured out with hindsight: jaegers only started going down faster after gypsy danger was defeated because the precursors learned where jaeger pilots were stored. (the head) Striker Eureka, Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha were some of the only surviving jaegers because they had far more unique designs and weaponry that the precursors didn't know how to deal with (large cannons, mobility, agility, extra arms, heavy armor, lack of a visible head) Leatherback and Otachi were designed to take these jaegers down after Newt drifted with the kaiju, giving them access to their strengths and weaknesses. Leatherback had an EMP to shut down their systems, and the bute strength to take on cherno alpha. Otachi had the ability to make more of itself, and could fly with good mobility. also, it had acid to deal with cherno's heavy armor, and had a claw tail to better get past typhoon's arms. as gypsy danger wasnt finished at th time, the precursors did not know directly how to deal with it in the final scene where gypsy danger drops into the breach, you can see multiple knifeheads being made, as that's what could take it down last time.

I think I heard one of you ask what "drift compatible" means. Drifting is the term this movie uses for when two minds connect. They synchronize with each other and then both parties can access the other's memories and feelings. So in relation to the Yeager's, two pilots then act like a brain - one being the left side and the other being the right side.

This was our Mecha movie, and they did it really well. No doubt Guillermo Del Toro was inspired by anime. I saw this 3 times when it came out in theaters, and it was a big deal for millennial anime fans. Well to tell the truth, it's not actually moving as slow as you think guys. It only looks slow because it's very , very large. To our perspective the Yeager moves slow, but to the Kaiju it moves as fast as they do, usually. The camera is showing us a perspective relative to us.

I like that this fight didn't have Mako whooping his ass like Black Widow, whose dropping multiple men three times her size without effort. I mean Mako got tossed around; as she should, she's half his size. Mako can't drop him so easily but they show that she's able to match him move for move because she can actually fight. That's how mixed gender fights SHOULD be shown. It just doesn't have any believability when you have a 5' girl toss around 6' 5' 300lbs men like they weigh nothing. And it's even worse when they have children do it in kid martial arts movies like Three Ninjas. lol Youngest kid is like 6 years old weighs like 50 lbs and is dropping dudes that are grown ass men and weighing 200+ lbs each. at some point you just gotta say "Nah bruh, stop the nonsense." lol.
