Epic Spec Miata race with very fast racers, Zilisch, Wiley, Drago, Pardus and more

The June Sprints is always a big show:- the last race in the Hoosier Super Tour season, and the last BIG race before the Runoffs.
Here Danny Steyn wheels his Spec Miata with the fast boys, including world karting champion Connor Zilisch, Porsche Carrera Cup pro-driver Travis Wiley, two time SCCA Runoffs Champion Jim Drago, 3 time SCCA Runoffs Champion and pro-driver in the NASCAR Xfinity series, Preston Pardus.
Hard fair respectful clean racing till the finish line. after 43 minutes of green flag racing, Wiley gets the win by 5/1000ths over Zilisch. Top 5 finish within 2.2 secs of the winner!
Danny Steyn races SCCA and NASA events in both Spec Miata and Super Touring Lite cars. His cars are prepared by OPM Autosports, his SM is powered by Rossini Racing Engines, his STL is powered by Nelson Racing Engines, and both cars are stopped courtesy G-Loc Brake Pads, with contingency support from Hoosier Racing Tire, Toyo Tires and Mazda Motorsports.
Danny also races Hare Scrambles and OffRoad Races on motorbikes, and does Adventure Touring on bikes around the world.

Totally - but those rumble strips wreck havoc on the wiper motors and blades. As you saw, they varied a LOT throughout the race

thanks Ethan, was pretty exciting behind the wheel too. Was surprised to be up front for so long, and when they came past I expected to drop back without a team mate, but for some reason I was able to hang and fight to the end. Fun race!

Yup, I have pushed drivers through the kink and been pushed, but you gotta get it right so you dont spin them out. Gotta ease into it and keep a continuous pressure! Always fun to see it on camera

Damn that was one good race. Especially close finishes at the end! Are the 1.6s just not viable to compete with the 1.8s?

thanks KookiDowg. Lots of fun running with those guys!. Yes IMHO the 1.6 can turn laps at the same speed as us, but over the course of the race, the heat soak affects the 1.6 more than the 1.8's. The 1.6's were given some allowances fairly recently that made them more competitive, but I think their might be more coming in the future.

Are you flat through the kink? Lifting only to shift to 5th? (I did my racing school on this track and that bit scared the buhjeezus out of me every time!) Also wondering are you going from 5th to 3rd (skipping 4th) gear for Canada Corner?

Marc, we are flat through the kink at 107-110mph in Spec Miata. We use 3rd, 4th and 5th gears at this track, sometimes dropping down to 2nd in traffic at T5. One of the few tracks we race with 3 x 5th gear straights. I am also flat in my STL car through the kink at 118mph

Tony Fornetti drove the NA1.6. It was a very good 1.6, but not quite as strong as the VVT's and 99's. And thanks for the kind words
