Taryl, I have an uncle who is the smartest person I have ever met. He is probably just a few years older than you and has been a small engine mechanic his whole life. He is about the only guy around who can diagnose electrical problems. He is often called to other shops to diagnose their problem mowers. He has embraced electrical power for about a decade. He has converted some large riders to electric, using golfcart parts. He says the same things that you do about battery powered equipment: it ALWAYS starts, it never has carb issues, fuel never goes bad, it never needs oil change, and it's quiet. He has converted me. I am glad to see more manufacturers rolling out battery powered equipment. Please keep showcasing battery equipment. You are definitely going to want to start carrying it at your shop too. It's not coming. It's HERE!

I'm a Stihl tech, these little saws are quite impressive for light jobs. The doubters want to compare it to a farm/ranch saw made to fell and cut wood for hours on end... that's not the target market here. I see very few battery products come in for repairs. Maybe 1-2 a month and we have sold quite a lot of them. Relatively simple to work on. Stihl spent millions and millions developing their lines of batteries and they will last for years and years performing flawlessly if properly cared for.
@solveigogfredrik Жыл бұрын
Hi. Can you tell me if the magic is in the battery? I.e will a MSA 120 with AK30 battery perform as well as a MSA 140?
@larryshaver4260 Жыл бұрын
@@solveigogfredrik the only difference I see on the charts from Stihl is the 120 can have a 10" or 12" bar with AK20 battery and the 140 has a 12" bar with the AK30. It does not specify if the motor is the same.

Wow that looks pretty good taryl has inspired me to fix lawn mowers I now have a small shop and all the tools and parts I could ever need i have so much fun doing so and I’m 14 if it wasn’t for taryl donyboy73 or mustie1 or machinery restorer I would never have been interested or able to fix riding mowers thank you so much taryl the parts I use are usually Oem or stens or rotary or Oregon I really love doing it this is my God given gift and you taryl have helped me reach my full potential. I can’t wait to really become a small engine mechanic I’m just doin grins for a hobby but I hope to contribute and continue my gift to help people with small engines thanks again taryl

I bought a little electric (with cord) Homelite saw 18 years ago at Home Depot, and it's still trucking. Works like new, and I use that thing on about every kind of tree except the really big ones. Bought a bigger Poulan Pro for big stuff, but it's hard to get started. Little Homelite zips right thru it every time - no hard starts. Electric will totally replace 2-cycle at some point, so you're smart to embrace the future, Taryl. You need to become a servicing dealer for the electric stuff.

These saws are getting pretty good my friend has a Dewalt 40 volt with an 18” bar that cuts real well I have the Ryobi 14” it’s a good saw for trimming and some moderate cutting. These will not replace a gas saws for heavy usage, but for the guy who does a bit of firewood and occasional thinning and cutting these are great especially if you’ve already invested in a tool line like I have with Ryobi.
@shaynestates1994 жыл бұрын
I agree but I feel bad for my friendly local Stihl dealer that I get parts for work from, because for the homeowner they're going to go with Milwaukee DeWalt or Ryobi because you already have the batter for. Who is going to buy Stihl battery powered tools especially at those prices

Taryl Fixes All. Very nice informative video. For some time now, I have been thinking about a small battery powered chainsaw for small tree limb cutting on my property. About every other year, I have to cut limbs that hang down around the tree lines where I have to play “Lawn Mower Limbo” as I pass by with my mower(s). For some time now, I have used either corded electric tools with my Harbor Freight TailGator generator or various battery operated power tools. I have been rather pleased with the two WorxGT string trimmers that I have. For me with the battery powered tools, I always purchase extra batteries so that I have at least one battery charging and one in the tool and two available for use. This is true for my drills or other power tools that I have. Stihl products are not cheap by any means - But You Do Get What You Pay For. Stihl dealers offer lots of support for the products that they sell. There’s Your Dinner From Central KY.

I've got one of those as well, and the battery also works for my hedge trimmer and string trimmer. Battery life is very good, up to an hour's work on most jobs. But I do have a second battery, so my workload runs out before I run out of batteries.

My homelite super 2 with no chain brake and no safety is the way to go for me 😂 it sat for 20 years and I pulled it out, ran great somehow the carb diaphragms didn’t rot. Just a slight carb adjustment, new duck bill valve, air filter and ignition coil. Runs beautifully. But sadly I can see that electric stuff is the way for many people since they don’t understand basic 2 stroke maintenance.
@handyhippie65484 жыл бұрын
i've got one of these. i love it! i need to get a second battery though. it cuts more than you would think when it's warm, but when it's cold it has about 1/2-2/3 the run time. even then, it's better than one o' them poolan wild thing hunks o' junk. i cut a 22" dia. 60' tall hickory tree that fell in a storm this spring with it, and it cut it up like a hot knife through butter. best part, no pull cord to make my shoulder cry.

I use the heck out of my Poulan Wild thing. It's been great for 3 years and many chains. Maybe I just lucked out and got a good one. Lol.
@handyhippie65484 жыл бұрын
@@dredger9mm i've got two of them out of the trash in the last 4 years that were pitched due to carb issues, and a blown out spark plug. for one i got a new carb for on ebay, and sold for $50. the other is under my bench waiting for me to get bored and look into dealing with the carb, and putting a helicoil in the plug hole. both were only a couple of years old. if you got three years use out of it, you are the lucky one. they are nothing like the 3400 counter vibe i have from the late 70's. it is a damn good saw, and i've cut a forest of trees with it over the years. been through 4 bars, and more chains than i can remember.

14:15 - Noooooooo Then you gotta get on the ground to cut it into smaller pieces. ALWAYS start at the top of the tree and work backwards. You can cut short lengths that are easy to carry, and the tree SLOWLY lifts up as weight is SLOWLY removed. This is sooooooo hard to watch.
