This day of fishing was one to remember! I caught wild brown trout, rainbow trout, and cutthroat trout in a remote and rugged canyon with no one to be seen but my friend and I for miles and miles. Talk about a perfect day of tenkara fly fishing. The only challenge other than the miles required to access this area, was the constant threat of severe thunderstorms that eventually stopped being a threat and turned into a reality. Just adds to the fun, right?

A lovely river and beautiful trout - your formula is timeless. But your artist’s eye is what takes it all to the next level. Thanks, as always, for these wonderful outings you share!

Another excellent video! Love those beautiful cutty’s and that thunderstorm with hail was really cool! I love the smell and calmness after those storms.

Another excellent video Chris. Those vertical rocks on the far bank were absolutely stunning.Amazing habitat for those trout. Rainbows don't always get the respect they deserve but I think you'll agree they're among the best fighters among trout. That was quite the gnarly climb up to that rock overhang. I like your insect highlights! That was quite a bit of hail, I wonder how much it would take to measurably drop the temperature of the water. BTW, your cameras perform admirably in the wet. Beautiful country, you're lucky to be able to enjoy it. Thanks for the hard work and quality vid!

Couldn't agree more - those cliffs just coming right down into the creek creating deep holes full of trout ... how cool! I certainly enjoy catching rainbows, hard to beat a colored up wild rainbow fighting hard in cold water. I go back and forth between whether I prefer them or browns more. Cutthroat deserve their own class out west, I'll never complain about catching them. The hail storm totally dropped the water temps by a good 5 degrees I'd say. Glad you enjoyed the insects ... some of that butterfly footage I was so psyched to capture haha. Thanks for watching as always.

"If a fish doesn't want to catch my chubby then I don't wanna catch him" is great. I mostly fish alpine lakes and most days I live and die by the chubby.

great vid. which rod were you using here? and, I think you said you were using level line; fairly thicker stuff to be able to cast the chubby chernobyl? thanks.

Thanks! I'm using the Tenkara Rod Co. Rocky. I'm using #3.5 level line here, which is pretty much what I always use. Casted the chubby and dropper just fine!

@@FlickyFlies great to know thanks!! on my longer keiryu rod i’ve used 1 weight fly line and it casts a big foam gurgler really well fwiw. but i’ll give the 3.5 a go on my shorter rods.

@@mvsc-k5e I’ve used the Daiwa micro floating line, I forget exactly what it’s called. I feel like I discovered it from the tenkarabum website. It definitely casted dry fly rigs and other stuff really nicely, especially in heavy wind. I used it primarily on my daiwa keiryu-x 45. In the end I just never liked how it would sag and lose that long rod tight line advantage so I have relegated that stuff to just super windy days (and I try not to fish on those days if I can help it). Anyways, def give the level line a try!

And to elaborate a bit more, the level line is never as “sexy” of a cast as the super lightweight floating line. It’s its own thing for sure. But it gets the job done. I think for the ultimate in casting fun and satisfaction it’s hard to beat a regular fly rod and reel.
