If you're looking for one of the most beautiful places in Canada, Vancouver Island might just be it. Raw, wild and stunning nature is at every turn on this Pacific West island and is considered to be a year round destination. This was an absolutely incredible road trip to some of the more remote parts of the island like Tofino, but also taking a look at the second largest city which is Nanaimo. If you'd like to see capital city which is Victoria, check out my full length vlog here: • YOU NEED TO VISIT VICT...

I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I have lived throughout Western Canada in my 60 years, and here is an interesting "fun fact". The Tonquin Valley, a super-spectacular back-country valley in Jasper National Park located in the Canadian Rockies 1200 km / 800 miles from Tofino, was named for the sunken sailing ship Tonquin, the trail to the wreck site was in this video. How did this happen? The (horrible) fur trade of the early 1800's made it to this coast, the ship Tonquin was part of it, and was based in Fort Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River, now located in Oregon State USA 500 km / 300 miles south. Fur traders actually used to follow this river, the biggest on the Pacific Coast of North America, all the way from its source near today's Jasper National Park to Fort Astoria, through rapids, primeval forests, deserts, and huge mountains, and a fur brigade participant named the valley in Jasper for that ship, as they crossed the still-remote-to-this-day Athabasca Pass nearby. The tiny fur trade post of Jasper House was a stop-over for the brigades as they made their way to Fort Edmonton (now Edmonton City) and farther east to transport their hideous cargo to Europe. Their are overnight hiking videos of the Tonquin Valley on YT.

Thanks for this laid back into to Central Vancouver Island. I’m born & raised in Vancouver & lived many years in Calgary close to Banff/Lk Louise/Jasper … amazing Mtn. Playground. Have lived in Nanaimo now for 8yrs. - wood stairs at Ammonite Falls are new, we used to use a rope to get down to bottom of the falls. This is easy little hike, there are SO MANY - easy/moderate/difficult to take in. Also, we have our kayaks moored at the marina, we take them out on the ocean, even occasionally to Dinghy Dock pub for lunch ! Tofino is definitely a place to visit - Aahhh .. let go of daily stresses and relax ! Thank for this - I’ll be sharing. Thx to Laine as well !

@@brandoncbh US smoke? Canada has its share some of those years. Especially bad was 2015 with smoke from Canada that ruined the air in WA. Last year was bad as well in some places when Lytton was burning.
@davidmarshall718
@davidmarshall718 2 жыл бұрын
No arguments about forest fire smoke please. Smoke blows across the border in both directions, and the USA Northwest is very similar geographically and climatically to Southwest Canada, all the way to the eastern Great Plains. On a lighter note, the North Pacific Ocean is the source of all that clean fresh air.

Tofino is known for incredible sunsets. When I think of both “tropical” and “Canada”, the first place that comes to mind is Tofino. One of Canada's most westerly towns, Tofino faces the Pacific Ocean and is home to some of the best surfing in the country, as well as whale watching, hiking, paddling, and so much more.

I live in Victoria on Vancouver Island. It is paradise. I have thus far only been as far north as Nanaimo but the southern coast is stunning. I surf at China Beach and Sombrio Beach on the south end and plan heading to Tofino for a couple days in August. From surfing to hiking this island has it all.

Awesome! Now would be the time to visit the San Juan islands. They are real close to Vancouver Island. You know sharks, dolphins, and stingrays do swim into rivers. I have seen 'em kayaking. You need bear spray in case a cougar or grizzly goes after you hiking trails.

I motor boated the length of Vancouver Island one winter- the east side. Like the other parts of Canada's forested areas, Vancouver Island is spectacular. What really surprised me was how pleasant Victoria city was. Victoria may be more British than any city in Britain. I don't know. But really one of the nicest cities I have ever seen.

Next time you should go into Ucluelet & walk a bit of the West Coast Trail - amazing! and stop at Cathedral Forest west of Coombs. This is the 4th province I live in and the scenery is beautiful but the grey skies & rain can be rather depressing. This is the lousiest spring so far. I've been in Comox 4yrs now; last place was Wellington Ont village of 1700 a really pretty spot on Lake Ont. and no Tims for me either.

This video takes that into consideration also, and our thanks so much to Laine for doing this trip with you. Alina, I really think you enjoy those trips that are shared with others with you. To go to places that most of us have never heard of, to see the magic you share through your eyes, is the best part of all the videos you give us. A very beautiful laid back kind of place is always a treat and a great slow down of life that all of us need.
