Filmed in July 2019. Named for its black cliffs, this is one of the longest, narrowest and deepest gorges in the world - and it's stunning!

Since Diana's brother, Jānis, was visiting us, we were moving quickly to fit as much into his 2-week vacation as possible. That meant a drive of almost 350 miles from Glacier Basin Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park to South Rim Campground in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
Our itinerary:
Day 1 afternoon:
arrived at South Rim Campground
South Rim Visitor Center
South Rim Drive with stopping at most viewpoints
watching sunset at Dragon Point
Day 2 early morning:
Warner Point Trail
Drive East Portal Road down to the site of Gunnison Diversion Dam

We visited Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in July 2019. Right now we are sheltering in place and using this as a time to catch up on video editing. That said, we hope these adventures can provide some much needed distraction and entertainment in such an uncertain time. Stay safe!

I tapped on the blog post picture on the website and it didn't take me anywhere. My tablet is old and could be giving me grief.

Wow, that canyon is awesome. Great job on the videography, beautiful vistas. The education you folks give us is amazing, thank you. We didn't get this level of education on our own country even in our public schools. I just love watching your channel. Keep up the great work. Stay safe and Happy trails!

The last time I visited that park was over 20 years ago. It was so long ago the only thing that I can remember was that I took the hike down to the river I don’t know I don’t remember the exact location but I can’t remember it seem like a lot of work but was worth it. With your video now I remember some of my experiences but hopefully next time you go through you’ll be able to take the walk down to the bottom so have a good day bye-bye

It's similar for us - as we edit the videos, which sometimes happens quite a time later, we remember things that we had forgotten. And yes, we are looking forward to coming back and hiking down to the river.

We are recent subscribers and really enjoy your videos. We only live about an hour north of the South Rim and your pictures and videos did a fantastic - really over the top - job of capturing this park's beauty. Since we've noticed you two also enjoy steep hikes on top of the mountains, we suggest next time you are in this area, to hike Crag's crest trail on the Grand Mesa in the Grand Mesa National Forest. You would have seen the Grand Mesa to the North as you came through Montrose. The hike is 10 miles round trip. You will love it! It sees heavy traffic in the short summer months.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :) And thanks for the recommendation for Crag Crest trail - added to my virtual bookmark list for when we are back in the area. Pictures on Google Maps look spectacular for that hike!

Some friends of mine came out in 2017 and we hit Great Sand Dunes NP first, went to Mesa Verde and 4 corners, then made out way to Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We were hoping to do a similar trip in Oregon since that's where we're all originally from (not all that far from La Gande, actually) but COVID put a stop to that.

Yeah, unfortunately COVID has changed a lot of plans! I hope you get to do it soon enough!

@@AdventurousWay Very likely it'll be shortly after the pandemic ends. We had it mostly planned out but fortunately we hadn't made any of the arrangements or spent any money. We were actually planning on renting a trailer because last time we had a large tent and having to set up and take down and carefully pack the SUV to max capacity was annoying. So your videos about what size rigs fit where is very helpful. Although with 6 people we're gonna have to go about 30 feet.

🥰 I'd love a countertop made of gneiss.... It would look nice! I'm wondering if the 2300 foot height of the highest cliffs ^here are as tall as the cliffs where I live in northern Delaware? We have cliffs that reach 20-30 feet high! But you couldn't expect any less from a state so internationally famous for its incredible alpine geology! 👌🥴👍 Seriously though, good video. I'd never even heard of this place 5 mins before I clicked on the start button.
