Wet Palette Tip: More water and more paper under the parchment. A sponge would be even better. Keep the sponge/paper very wet and the parchment dry on top. :)
@XTr3m3b4sh
@XTr3m3b4sh 3 жыл бұрын
First of all: Airbrushing is not cheating. The only people that say that, are the ones who refuse to buy one. Second (if you would like some feedback) : You used too many warm colors for a mini thats in a cold environment. Try to mix your leather and skin colors with a slight bit of blue or grey.
@RealTerrainHobbies
@RealTerrainHobbies 3 жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention that but I actually intentionally went with some warm colours to change things up a bit. I was even considering the pale blue skin route initially but since it's been done before just tried to go with something a bit diferent. Still added the classic blue into the clothing etc. But you're right, could have maybe gone a little less warm with the leather and skin tone. :)

Hiya, first off, wonderful diorama! I know you mentioned you struggled to print the cape without lines - there could be a few factors in that, but assuming the supports/exposure are good, the biggest factors are likely your lift speed and your lift height. 3DPrintingPro has done a few more detailed videos on those parameters, but the TLDW is to set your lift speed to ~40mm/min and your lift height to ~8mm for larger printers and bigger prints, as it helps combat peel forces of larger cross-sections and FEP deformation from a bigger print area. Hope that helps!
@RealTerrainHobbies
@RealTerrainHobbies 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the tips. I'll give those parameters a shot and see what happens with this next one. fingers crossed!
@NikkiAnnMarie
@NikkiAnnMarie 3 жыл бұрын
@@RealTerrainHobbies No worries! Just to clarify, I meant ~40mm/min (not seconds, oops). It will slow down prints a bit, but it should hopefully stop lines like those, and also helps when printing more delicate supports on minis. I'd highly recommend checking out 3dPrintingPro's channel if you haven't already, it's a goldmine of printing advice:)

Back in the 80s and early 90s when I was doing both model train and dnd dioramas. I got a tip on how to make snow scenery by using a small cooking drain screen sifter to get a better coating on my dioramas. After I read an article in Military Modeler they used Baking Soda to create their snow scape. I used it once on one of my dioramas and I really liked it for it looked very real and it was cheaper than having to go out and buy all these expensive materials for diorama making. Plus everyone has it in their home for baking. For after a while it all adds up and can get expensive fast aside from having to buy your figurines. Also mixing the baking soda up with a diluted amount of water and Elmers PVA glue works good to make your fleck paste. Once you have the thickness you want for your paste you can just brush it on the areas you want to show the large amounts of accumulated snow and let it dry. Then before I do anything else I lay down enough newspaper or anything else to spread out I have to protect my work space for easy clean up. I place my diorama in the middle of my spread and I grab my cooking wire screen strainer sifter and pour in some of my baking soda and several inches above my diorama slowly sift the baking soda over my piece. Once I have enough coverage over the whole thing I want. I grab my spray bottle that has diluted Elmers PVA glue in it that has the consistency of instant milk and I mean really diluted. And then I continue to lightly spray over the diorama to seal the rest of the sifted baking soda down onto my diorama so it doesnt fall off. I let it set to dry. Once its dry I can remove it and since youll make a big mess with the sifter and the baking soda you can collect up the loose baking soda off your newspapers etc and collect it into a container which that can be reused later for your fleck paste again.

I am amazed at how easy you make the snow effects look. I'm not saying it was camera tricks. The method is brilliant in simplicity, and amazing in presentation. Your videos really help my landscape work, thank you! - With the gift of perfect hindsight, you could have capitalized on those deep print lines on the cloak and done a band of another color, like some kind of heraldry from the original fabric.
