Floor and Simone definitely know each other 😂 quick bio. Floor started in After Forever with Mark Jansen aka, Epica's guitarrist. They kicked out Mark and then he made Epica. After Forever used to play Nightwish covers, and Simone was inspired to sing by Tarja; Nightwish's first vocalist. Funny how things work out in the end huh. Eventually Floor and Mark made peace. He invited her to sing in Mayan, she invited him to growl in her band Revamp, Epica invited Floor to sing on their 10th anniversary DVD recording. Yada yada yada. Everything involging these people is a long story, but that's the essential part

Fun facts: Simone Simmons (vocals EPICA) turned to studying music and taking singing lessons after hearing Nightwish! Mark jensen (guitar, growl EPICA) left "After Forever"(With Floor Jansen) to go create EPICA. So yes they are connected! No family relation to Dutch Valkyrie goddess Floor Jansen by the way. Fun fact 3 This is a Dutch band with all Dutch members.They are for me perhaps the best symphonic metal band in the world. Right up there with Nightwish. Although different in approach and influences.
@hansolo21213 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisDelaySWE Simone was actually also inspired by Dutch band The Gathering with singer Anneke van Giersbergen and other Dutch band Within Temptation. And The Gathering with Anneke as female singer were a major influence on Tuomas for starting Nightwish. Also Floor deceided to become female metal vocalist after hearing The Gathering. So it really all started with The Gathering. For both Tuomas and Floor. And also Simone!

The guitar player-singer of Epica has a degree in philosophy, so all Epica lyrics are kind of profound. Simone Simons, the female singer, and the members of Epica are from The Netherlands. Guess where Floor is from? You guessed it right, she is from The Netherlands too. However, most of metal bands that have an operatic female singer were inspired by Nightwish when Tarja was the singer. Floor used to the singer of a band called After Forever, which was formed by the guitar player-singer now in Epica. Small world indeed. On a final note be aware of this great Dutch band called Within Temptation. On another final note, the band that started this operatic female singers in metal was Theatre of Tragedy, then came Tristania.

Epica made several songs criticizing religion and I'm surprised no one in the top comments mentioned them to you, obviously your take on them would be interesting. _Fools of Damnation_ is a really beautiful composition and is about Islam, _Cry For The Moon_ is their most famous song (there is a great live in the studio version) and is more about Christianity. In general they have really good lyrics, they focus on spirituality and mental well being. Other suggestions would be _The Divine Conspiracy_ which is one of their most impressive compositions and the single _Storm The Sorrow_ which also has a beautiful video ful of symbolism! :-)

Very good song & performance. I seen this tour in September of '06. It was Kamelot, Epica & Eternal Legacy if I remember correctly. I met Simone before the show, she looked beautiful that night, & that hair!!! She was walking through the venue going towards the stage with some big dude, probably her bodyguard, at least that's what he seemed like. As she walked right next to me I called out her name & she stopped & turned towards me & I asked her if I could get a hug. She was very nice, friendly & accomodating & she smiled & said, "sure." I freely & openly admit that as we hugged each other I ran my fingers down her hair a bit. She either didn't mind, or didn't feel it. Hahaha... Anyway, great show, they kicked ass that night. Roy Khan formerly of Kamelot & Conception, guested on CtO, the song 'Trois Vierges.' I've recommended the song 'In Your Multitude' by Conception. Please give it consideration, thanks.

Hahaha! Yes, Simone's hair is naturally red. Ah, Epica, Epica! My favourite band. They're really amazing to watch live, I can tell you that! They interact with aech other and the crowd so much, it's a great experience. Plus the show and the music are always great. The guy that talked and growled is the founder of the band, Mark Jansen, who worked previously with Floor Jansen (no relation) in After Forever, their first band for both. And he's a guitarist :D As for the lyrics, Epica lyrics always have a profound meaning relating to many different subjects: politics, philosophy, religion, etc. Mark has a degree in psychology and he also is very interested in Quantum physics, so you see those two subjects very often in their music, in general. This song in particular, as you said, Vin, is about our post-industrial society and how we're slaves to the artificial things we have put before our dreams and the laws of nature in general. Yes, the music industry is really weird. I followed a band called Xandria (also symphonic metal), and I thought they were doing good for themselves since their last three albums gained a lot of popularity, but it just so happens that the members have to work two jobs to be able to pay their bills and continue touring and all, and it was so bad the lead singer since the last two albums just left the band because she was in such poor health and the management didn't care that she could lose her voice because of the intense touring they were doing (and apparently, the musicians also have health issues because of the stress etc.)... I can't imagine how that could be for a successful band. How can they gain so little for all the things they do and how much they sell? Interesting theory about the afterlife. I'm an agnostic myself, but think that there is something greater than us, be it a god or just the laws of nature, I do not know It's still an interesting point you made. However, for my part, I think that that line "Wa are so afraid of all the things unknown" can be interpreted in many different contexts. Humans seem to go in that direction: if they do not understand something, they are afraid of it. I'll take a societal example for my point, because the song seems to be anchored in society and how it works: racism/xenophobia. The word xenophobia in itself is interesting for that line, because it means "fear of the strangers" in Ancient Greek, and it is what is happening in our world. How many times have we heard people, politicians, etc., put the blame on the problems a country has on immigrants? How can we not see the fear of the poor people that are running from war to European countries, and yet they are treated like the worst criminals? Children being detained away from their parents because they come from a "poor" country? Haha! yes, the song is really deep, and that's the case with all their songs. Some of them are more straightforward than others, but, usually, it takes hours and hours to really get an interpretation on some of them, and, even then, you always think of other things to add, etc. That's one of the reason I love Epica (and metal, in general) so much, because it's food for thought, and, yes, you can grasp the main theme, but you always have to sit down and think quite hard for your to get an understanding of your interpretation of the song. And, as any artistic work, not one interpretation is THE interpretation. You can find many meanings and many different ways to see the lyrics. Hahaha! I get what you mean with comparing every female vocalist to Floor. Ms Jansen is a goddess of metal, truly. But yes, Simone has her own style, and it's really different from Floor. Both of them are really good friends (you can find some videos on KZbin with both of them), and Mark and Floor were in their first band together, as I said (btw, please check out After Forever - Monolith of Doubt, or Dreamflight live, gorgeous songs) before Mark was fired from After Forever and created Epica. They all are friends, and they have collabed quite a lot until now. Sancta Terra or Stabat Mater Dolorosa live at the Retrospect show is one example (it's Epica's 10's anniversary show back in 2013), and Simone singing with Floor on Sweet Curse, and both of them singing with Mark's other band MaYan, etc. I don't know if Epica has ever toured with Nightwish, I don't think so, but Simone loves the band, and Floor has toured with Nightwish back when she was in After Forever... And they both have worked with Arjen Lucassen in Ayreon, along with many other artists of the metal genre. Anyway, I don't think I'm making any sense anymore, haha, but the thing is that many many of the artists in the symphonic metal genre know eahc other and have collabed. Sorry for the long and weird comment, but I just thought it would be interesting to put my thoughts on what you were saying throughout the video :D

Awsome review as usual!! You guys are awsome 😎🤘 You should do Danzig- How the Gods Kill. The video blocking is ridiculous, I agree 100% I had an editing program I was messing with and put some music to a video,it was film music at that,and they removed all the sound. Like you guys,I just did it for fun mostly as a learning experience with this program I was learning.
