You asked for it, so yeah, here is a quantum physicist! Part of the fun about Mark’s lyrics is of course that he goes back and forth between quantum physics and the meaning of life all the time, but I’ll here stick to the former. The Latin seems to say: ‘we commute/change our view, nothing is certain. Who observes, is seen, is a part’. That’s a reference to Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, according to which when we measure a system, we influence it (at least, on one popular interpretation of Heisenberg). This is expressed mathematically by ‘commutation relations’, so when they say 'commute’ that's a reference to that mathematical change, which corresponds to a change in what we observe. If you measure the position of a particle, you can’t know where it is going; and if you observe where it is going, you cannot measure its position with accuracy. ‘All your laws and the assumptions, leave them behind’ is a nod to the new laws of quantum mechanics, which are different from those of Newtonian physics and, in several ways, have revolutionised our beliefs about nature. ‘When we observe by any means we will create reality’: this is a reference to one particular interpretation of quantum mechanics, according to which, when we measure a property of a particle, at that moment we create the property of the particle. Have a good day!

In quantum physics, there exists a state known as quantum superposition in which an object like an atom or photon can exist in a combination of simultaneous state corresponding to different possible outcomes. In simpler words, an object can be both existent and non-existent at the same time until something happens that will determine which outcome it is. The Schrödinger's cat thought experiment for example proposes that if you had a cat in a box with a flask of poison that could shatter at any second, for as long as the cat is not observed by opening the box, it exists in both a state of dead AND alive. It is only once you open the box to observe for yourself that the cat can be determined to be either alive OR dead. EPICA, in this song and also in Kingdom of Heaven Part I, are interpreting this as the more you observe the natural world and the Universe at large (with our own eyes or instruments), the more you attribute a definitive state to everything, essentially creating the very Universe we live in the more you look at it. Not doing so will leave you in a state of uncertainty. "When we will look aroung and see, We will affect the energy. When we observe by any means, We will create reality. We will not know if we don't peek, We cannot do if don't be, Facing our deadlock now, This is our quantum enigma." Or this passage: "Each new discovery, That we acclaim, Brings us much closer, To reach our aim. So we will finally see, All of the Universe, Exists by being observed, Expanding every day, As we reach further."

The theory about possible outcomes is, I guess, from where the claim about the infinite number of parallel universes is derived.

@@ChrisPage68 Hmm, let me see... No clue if this is accurate. I had to interprete how it was meant to be read and used multiple translation tools/sources. "Visum commutamus" - *Change the view.* "Nihil certum" - *Nothing is fixed.* "Qui observat, visi" - *He that observes, sees* "Pars est" - *part of* "The quantum enigma" "Omne est vigor" - *Everything is energy.* "Sentimus eum" - *We feel it* "Sicit concretum" - *like concrete.* (concrete as in real) "Vigor concrescit - *Vigor makes real* "Observatione" - *the observation.* "Vita est mare" - *Life is a sea* "Infinitarum facultatum" - *of infinite possibilities.* "Si quae emergant opperiens - *If we wait for what may emerge,* "Quod inspicimus - *that plan* (or goal, or objective) "Adipiscemur" - *we will achieve.*

But it is either that we create our universe to be clearer by observing OR all universes that can exist do and observations don't really change reality. Both sounds ridiculous, but are there more options to explain the quantum behaviour?

This is Kingdom of Heaven Part II. There's going to be a part III in the new album! Mark teased us about it in the vlog series of the making of the album. Way too excited, uuuuugh. This whole album is marvelous. And Epica has just released the B side, with all the bonus songs that weren't available everywhere until now! They're on all music platforms. SO songs like Memento and Virage of Verity are on Spotify. Super cool! Basically, the quantum enigma, in physics is: our world is created by our observation of it. Basically. On a quantum level, a particle that's observed doesn't act the same as one that isn't observed (ex: light photons, once they act like a wave, the other like the particles they are) and an atom can be in two different locations at the same time... I think Einstein's spooky interactions falls under the quantum enigma theories.

In Physics, it’s the amount of energy related to frequency. Think of it as the amount of effort related to the outcome.
