What they didn't tell me when I was training was that the VSI lags behind a bit. If you rely on that to determine whether you're climbing or descending, you'll have very bad flight control

1:29 The pitch attitude of an aircraft doesn’t determine wether it’s climbing or descending. The angle of attack of the wings probably isn’t a good way to determine if you are flying level, and can confuse students.
