Yess Epik High is tied for my favorite Korean hip hop artist. They’re OG’s, doing this shit since 2003 😮‍💨 Love them, and they’re genuinely hilarious ppl with extreme talent. And I’ll add a semi-correction. They started out as a hip hop group, and they still are. However the difference now is they really don’t care being called a kpop group because a) they love kpop and b) they just don’t give a fuck in general. So it’s not inaccurate to call them a kpop group however I still prefer calling them a Korean hip hop group since they’re not really in that industry, just have strong ties to it.

I honestly dont want to defend celebrities that much. But I just think that zico is probably one of the biggest scapegoat in kpop (at least in ktuber community). I mean he make mistakes, but we know many big artists today have made more mistakes than that and not even apologizing. Its just that zico's mistakes is always the very first thing that ktuber mention in any scandal videos. It can be bcs his image. And it can be bcs he didnt come from big companies, the one with lots of money or the one that have a lot of younger kpop groups. I mean his group is older, so I dont think many ktuber understand how much of a big deal he is musically. But honestly, if you are a fan of music, you need to check his stuff

Zico was mistakenly dragged into the "Burning Sun scandal" because one who is currently in jail said that Zico has a "golden phone" and netizens started blaiming that Zico is also involved in all this trash. Even the police investigated him and he is clean. I'm asumme Zico has a "golden phone" cuz he's a famous producer/artist, one of the most credited k-pop idols in top 5 if I'm not mistaken, and he writes, works with a bunch of other producers, idols, rappers, etc., so he has their numbers. but who cared back then💁‍♂

I am sorry but let me correct you for a bit. So, in one of talkshow, Zico was the one who said that 'someone' has a golden phone that Zico was curious about because Zico was NEVER ALLOWED to see what stuff inside that phone. This golden phone thing was viral because later it was proven as a one of evidence and it was announced by police. Because of that, this episode of talkshow became viral and knetz assumed that Zico knew what's going on, knetz insisted that Zico actually knew when even in the talkshow that 'someone' said that Zico really doesn't know. Zico even was investigated and proven not guilty :") I knew it because I ever watched that episode, full episode, because I was a fan of that someone :") even before Zico was investigated, I 80% believed he was clean because I know the context of the talkshow :")

But later in the police investigation, we all know that it is called golden phone not because of the phone contacts :") that is why knetz were furious and accused Zico to actually know it when he didn't :") But anyway you're welcome!

Epik high is one of OG artists who help k-hip-hop to grow in korea with many other artists like Drunken Tiger JK and Jay park but New gen fans steal and give all credit to new rapper and just like how bigbang and other 2gen artists did a lot to increased the popularity of kpop in aisa and new gen fans steal and giving credit BTS. Well as a BTS hardcore fan you will definitely diss agree.😊😊

@@hangingtree9637 He actually says so too, he always tells Tiger JK he was the OG and that he help him in his journey into the hiphop scene when he got solo with his support. But I think OP is listing Jay in the k-hiphop as og because he really made (alongside illionaire and Amoeba, etc) k-hiphop mainstream. AOMG with Illionaire records and Amoeba Culture were the first ones who started to sign artists that later became pretty mainstream. Right know Jay spent more years in the hiphop side than in 2pm, aka his "kpop era", so it would be kinda wrong to classify him as kpop even if he started that way. He hasn't been an idol since 2010.

I agree that Jay Park brought k-hiphop to a new height, and his journey to rediscovering his music was truly amazing. But still Tiger JK are like a whole different generation, it just feels so wrong to put them two together, but well thats just an opinion. And even tho Jay only active a very little while as an idol, he did gain something from it. I'm pretty sure he appeared on tv sometime before he made AOMG. The reason why Tiger JK is so respected bcs he really sets a clear lines to what is hip-hop and pop-rap that actually popular at that time. 1st gen kpop actually heavily inspired by hip-hop, but yk there arent very good rap at that time, until Tiger JK appeared.

@@hangingtree9637 I agree too with all that. Tiger and let’s not forget Tasha too, did amazing in defining the genre there and establishing themselves as legends and OGs. There are a few more that I can’t remember at the top of my head but I would say Jay and Simon D, Dok2, the quiett, beenzino, swings, DD, etc are maybe the ones who started to make the genre “playable” with the GP in the 2010’s. Maybe before that was YG with 1tym and jinusean but they weren’t really mainstream either.

Hey Seb, glad you’re getting into Epik High, your idols idol. They were here DMV in March and amazing as always. They will definitely introduce you to some amazing artists. The parts of this song you stopped on were what Tablo went through in 2010 when a conspiracy theory almost destroyed him (check out the “Authentic” pod cast where he finally tells his side after over a decade). Zico is no more problematic than many earlier K-pop acts. No, he never did black face, he did a song where someone in the song used the N-word, he wore a Kanye West jacket with the confederate flag on it. Yeah cause we exported that too 🙄 and most recently, he said the F word and apologized for many things. Whether or not you feel like you can overlook that is, of course, up to you. I do listen to him, and I do think he’s trying to do better, but I think that’s an individual decision. (Yes I’m white but Jewish and queer so that definitely hit home). I won’t. Tell other people how to feel when people do problematic things.

4:16 That's the thing! Zico IS a really good rapper, I do like his music, he's a great producer and I even love his group (BlockB)'s music a lot. But this man is just beyond problematic 😭. Like it wasn't just cultural appropriation- but saying the f-slur, the n-word, literal black face, wearing a jacket with the Confederate flag on it and just a lot of other alleged stuff. Nothing wrong with the n-word. Let's be serious - if they want people to stop using it then they have to stop using it themselves.
