Epiphany or Christmas? "First-born Son"? Drinking alcohol? Biden's pardons?

Why is the Epiphany a greater feast than Christmas? Jesus as "first-born Son"? Does drinking alcohol break the fast? Resident Biden's pardons and commutations: are they acts of mercy in keeping with Christmas?

I appreciate the explanation of Mary being a perpetual virgin and Jesus Christ not having any earthly brothers or sisters. I have heard all kinds of Protestant people trying to explain how Jesus had siblings using Bible verses out of context. 👎

The discussion regarding the question of the Scripture is precisely why we need Holy Mother Church to interpret the scriptures. A principle not recognized by Protestants and the reason for their many and various heresies.

I find the fact that the Epiphany is NOT a holy day of obligation in the post conciliar church truly sad. Another wonderful day they ignore is Candlemas. Only if these fall on a Sunday is it obligatory. I'm sick to death of these modernists 😢

Alcohol was taken in the days when water was unsafe to drink. Even children drank ale rather than water. It was not as today having the connotation of a drunken, partying, worldly life. It’s doubtful it was forbidden on a fast day before modern sanitation and later, mains water, sewage system, refrigeration, etc.

Even today there are still places where alcohol is the only thing safe to drink due to impure drinking water.

@@glennso47Quite true! Would you drink the water from a pump in Dharavi? The residents of the place may be able to drink it having built up immunity, even born with their mother’s immunity. But if I drank it, I could look forward to cholera and typhoid. If I’m lucky, I might get off easy with salmonella, E. coli, or listeria!
