This is a Gibson Firebird V with Epiphone on headstock and an Indian Laurel fretboard. I think it would be a winner with a rosewood fretboard and priced at the Firebird 1 price of $1299 . The Firebird 1 is completely an Epiphone and should be priced accordingly. It has dot inlays, one Epiphone pickup, and no binding on the neck.

Exactly, $899 and $1299 makes sense. $1299 and $1699 for non signature Epiphones does not lol.

John, love the FIREBIRD. Gibson pups and hand wired pots and electronics, banjo tuners and mother of pearl inlays! All that, but Indian Laurel fretboard. I was thinking about it. Still made in China and it’s not a USA Gibson, and $1700.00. Wow! Can’t justify that price. Not that many years ago, when Gibson was still producing the Firebird’s in their regular line up, they were$1800.00. Epiphone’s quality has gone up, but not enough to match that price jump.

Can't justify that price! Made in China, Indian Laurel, no nitro. Yeah Gibson has lost their GD mind!
@trevor45339 ай бұрын
Yup, they also didn't sell very well so dealers had to discount them pretty hard. Have seen quite a few people claim they paid less than $1500 for theirs. They're apparently bringing them back this year. ...For $3500-4k. Couldn't give them away the last time, so lets double the price! 😂
@jordanpratt38219 ай бұрын
@srh361 yes they have, but sadly enough people will pay it. I say sadly because people over paying is not good for anyone trying to buy a guitar at any price point. They will keep charging whatever our dumbases are willing to pay. I really can't blame them but just once ide love to see them eat it.
@Twirlyhead9 ай бұрын
It's not the quality that's the issue, it's that we all know it's cheap to make these things in China thus a good chunk of the price is unearned: _OK, that covers the guitar and case now throw a load more money at me._ Epiphone say.

When this first came out i lost it on the price. But after playing one, its worth it. Fit and finish is better than gibson usa and it sounds incredible. It also is a dream to look at. I've wanted a firebird since i started playing guitar and I'm happy i was finally able to get one!

Great Jam. And tone and loved the vibrolo. And your assessment of its imput and benefit is spot on. I purchased the EPIPHONE Firebird in tri colored Sunburst, basically due to being a fan of Johnny Winter and Allen Collins of LS. It took some getting used to i must say, but now I absolutely love everything about it. Great job on the reaction.

First, I've got to say I love Firebirds too! Back when I started playing I gigged a lot. That gave me $$ to buy guitars. I've had 60's Firebirds, and a '58 LesPaul. So in terms of value, this Firebird is only $300 less than a Gibson Firebird! List them together on Reverb, what happens then? Last fall I bought a standard Epiphone Firebird in Sunburst. I thought that played and sounded really good, and it was $1050 less than this one!! How many are they going to sell at this price? 0 to me. My $650 Firebird says something about working with the Gibson custom shop to make it? So they 3X the price? No thanks. 8( --gary

Rosewood or ebony fretboard should be on this beauty. Such a shame. Great jamming by the way. If anyone could sell me on this it’s your fingers. Surprised by the 8.5 I was thinking 7 due to fretboard wood. See the link to zzounds there. Definitely using it if I pull the trigger 👍

Bought one, new, in 1998, for $340. Great guitar but the neck dive was insane, so I put 1.5#s of stick-on wheel weights along the back edge. Balanced perfectly, but it was a bit heavy haha Then I added in a pair of the hottest Seymour Duncan Firebird Mini buckers, and man for an epi bird, that was one hot guitar!

Even Gibsons never had real MOP for the trapezoids. You have to go to the LP Custom blocks for that.
@bryancollins67969 ай бұрын
Agreed. After watching both videos from you, it's gotta be the V. QC issues in the I video don't appear on this one, I assume? The value is that the next stop is the Custom Shop. So it's expensive, but it tries hard to be vintage accurate and mostly succeeds.

Indian Laurel at that price point is an absolute deal breaker. It's such a shame, because it is an otherwise killer guitar. (This guitar is $2,429.00 Can.)

The prices are ridiculous especially when they have a Indian Laurel fretboard you can get a nice used Gibson Les Paul for that price makes no sense !!
@deanbartone81879 ай бұрын
I totally hear what you’re saying, but you can’t get a new Firebird anymore especially around that price so I don’t think it’s too far off if it plays as good as it sounds why not

@KevinTheMetalhead9 ай бұрын
To be fair, the Firebird is a completely different guitar. If you want a Firebird, you want a Firebird, not a Les Paul. That being said, it's probably a better value to get the $649 Firebird that Epiphone still makes. You can upgrade it with banjo tuners and Gibson pickups and still not be close to $1699.
@deanbartone81879 ай бұрын
Yeah, I agree with Kevin. The metalhead reply. I have three pauls I have two Firebirds completely different animals. 3SG‘s and two Explorers got to tell you. they’re all different but I love the Firebirds and the explorers more than anything even though I play my SG more alive I still wanna go back to the Firebird first and paying custom shop prices for a new one I’d have to sell a testicle or two and give up my first born, which I am not quite encouraged to do such😂😂😂

You people want a high end Epiphones but for a budget price that will never happen and i suggest some of you learn epiphone history and laural wood bottom line your not getting high end Epiphones for a budget price get over it and use to it Epiphones are where they should be..

I bought a Gibson Firebird IV in 2018 new for 💯 bucks Less ....I LOVE LOVE this but no way I am paying that price ! I stick with my regular production one for $599. sorry Epiphone you got greedy 😡
@vcr2109 ай бұрын
But the price! The price. It is still a China made guitar. Just not worth the price. I imagine you could find an Ali Express China builder that could make it for less than half the Epiphone MSRP.
@benelder64319 ай бұрын
To much money! What is Epiphone doing? They should have priced this one like the Dave Grohl ES335. This one is $400 to much at the least.

Gibson must have discovered people buy epiphone guitars with a reasonable price and be happy rather than buying gibson. So this is their next move.
@jordanpratt38219 ай бұрын
I think what they noticed was how epi fans go on and on about how their Epi is not good for the money, not close to or as good as a Gibson but BETTER. Better than Gibson. So they have decided to see if people will put their money where their mouth is.
