Man, that bass... What can i say. I have the gold (smoked almond) one and, it's my nº1 bass. Extra confort, extra sound, mega bass. It's like a confortable thunderbird without neck dive Light weight, really well build. Best neck i've ever played. Only thing to change is tuners, after all, its 300 euros bass. Really nice video and review, as always

It works incredibly well in that context. We do everything from the aforementioned to AC/DC to Tom Petty, JCM, etc. to some basic funk numbers, even classic and modern country… It is quite versatile and sounds great in all of the above! Very lightweight, no neck dive, tuners have been fine… Great instrument!

When the knobs are wiggled properly, this bass can make a nice warm sound if not a little muted. I am excited to see this modded if that is what you end up doing to the instrument. Great video man, thank you.

Played one of these today, (i play in a 90s alternative cover band for context of what im talking about). And this thing had SUCH a good tone for all the stuff we play. A very well rounded instrument for rock sounds has a pretty big sound, and for the price!? Yeah. Probably getting the gold one. 😂😂 always wanted a gold instrument

I got a green one a few months ago and I'm in love with it. Had been sleeping on getting one for a year after trying one at GC and this video helped me pull the trigger after I kept deliberating. I love how many tones I can get out of it as well as how light it is. Great review!

Update on the situation: I was changing strings and the bridge got ripped out of the body. Second time changing strings too. After getting a replacement with faulty pickups from Sweetwater and then finally a working one, I put some Gotoh tuners on it with a set of Rotosound flats and haven't looked back. Be wary of Epiphone QC, y'all!

Interesting story. Glad you could fix it. I just bought the green one at GC like two days ago on a whim because it was on clearance for $279. I gigged it last night and enjoyed it a lot. It’s my first full-scale, and it plays pretty much as easily as my other two (32”&34”) basses. I wondered about Gotoh tuners. If you see this, I’d love a quick comment about them.

I got one as a backup for my Thunderbird. Liked it so much I sold the Thunderbird and kept the Embassy PRO which now serves as a backup to my Dingwall NG3. The pickups on that Epiphone are unbelievably good and sound nothing like any of the Gibson T-birds I've had in the past. They sound much better IMO, more clarity with great thump,

I bought it in green two days ago, gigged with it last night. I’m running those Ernie Ball cobalt flats on mine. They’re clanky to my ear because I’m so used to “real” flats (LaBella or Chromes). These EB ones are indeed much closer to a round wound sound, as advertised - which I thought would sound appropriate for this bass and the band I’m playing in.

Neck woods on an epi bird depend on model... Bolt on birds are maple, the thunderbird pro (active bird) is maple/walnut, the "60s/vintage" model with the same bridge and pickups as the embassy (but more typical V/V/T knobs) is mahogany/walnut And the one I have (Classic-IV Pro... You have a great point man! But honestly I find less and less people trying to emulate fenders I see manufacturers just making the super Modern, Bright, mid-less basses more and more and it's a little sad because at no point in time I found a 3band EQ any more useful or convenient than a classic passive tone knob.

I bought the green one (“wanderlust” they call it) on a whim when I found it on clearance for $279 at GC two or three days ago. I played it a while and then switched the stock strings for some EB cobalt flats (i.e., the flats that sound - and practically feel - like rounds) so it wouldn’t immediately lose its “top end sparkle” 😂 (My other basses are strung with LaBella and D’A Chromes. EB cobalts are really an entirely different animal, just FYI.) Last night I took it to the gig, played about half the show with the Epi and half with my usual bass, and liked this one quite well. It’s a little difficult to get a truly convincing “classic country” sound (shouldn’t be according to the specs, but I struggled a bit), but for the rock songs, it killed it. Heavy tone in a very lightweight package. Anyway, that’s my comment. Thanks for this and so many other thorough reviews 🙏🏻 and please do a tuner and bridge swap - and maybe the capacitor/pot swap so many have recommended. TBH, I have no idea what that is or does and would be a little bit afraid of doing the work, BUT zig you walk us through it and it sounds good, I might work up the courage! I wonder what mini clovers would look like on this guy? Hint hint. 😊

Great review. Been eying this bass. I like the old school sound and it should be great for playing some styles. I missed what strings your using? Flats should sound sweet on this. As for tuners, die cast tuners are kind of hit or miss when abusing them. I've beaten the snot out of some and they survived, a few seem to snap just looking at them. Die cast is not inherently bad, its the quality of the casting and the alloy used. My worst luck with tuners were the M4 Schaller tuners on old Kramer Aluminum neck basses. I've snapped a few of those and seen other folks snap them. Those Aluminum necks were so heavy and broke many tuners, and I love Schaller tuners.

Ciao! Did you have to make any bridge adjustments? I've heard some they the some that came out in 2017 had problems with intonations because of bridge placement!

Ciao Roberto! I didn't have any issues with intonation or setup. It was surprisingly easy, though I do wish we had individual string height control. That being said I was still able to dial this in comfortably.

I bought one when they first came out. The red one. Sold it on Craigslist a year later. Could never get the action set right. The bridge caused me issues. Could never get the strings low enough and had minor trouble with neck relief. I’ve set up dozens of brands of basses but this one was tough. Got sick of trying. Plus was never fond of the tone. In a rock band mix my band mates weren’t impressed. And I ran it through a line 6 system. Through subs and mains. Tried tweaking the tone. Meh .. it’s one of those basses that sounds good in your bedroom through headphones but other than that. Yeah. … no

I would never even consider changing the pickups on this baby. They sound that good. Anybody experiment with different strings? Hipshot Ultra-lites would be nice on this baby.

I just got one of these. What kind of flats would you recommend? I'd like to retain as much clarity and articulation as I can, but still have that flat wound sound. With the probucker pickups, I'm concerned about it getting muddy with flats, but I love flats. Any suggestions?

Thank you for doing this review. You're right, it is a bit muffled, but it does seem to produce a solid fundamental tone. I'd love to hear it in a mix with other instruments, to hear how it "sits". Also looking forward to what a future mod project might bring to the table.

I wish they'd have used these pickups in a short-scale bass (tried the Newport and was underwhelmed -- saw your review and it seems like you weren't any more impressed than I was). Problem is, the 760 Probuckers aren't sold separately. You've modded several basses, so I'm curious if you can suggest something that'd get into that T-Bird "angry piano" territory that could be installed in something a bit more player-friendly.

Hey man I watch your channel all the time. I own a sterling sub 4 and sub 5 and a gretsch shortscale for fun. I want to get rid of the gretsch and buy something to play BEAD preferably with a 1.5 or slimmer p bass width that can handle BEAD sring/set up and be used with my Darkglass 900v2 head, usually fuzz always on. Would you think this would be a good choice for to mod for BEAD or would should I take my sub4 and mod it or get an aerodyne (love the P sound but want jazz neck) or get a classic vibe ? I wanted to maybe try the darkglass tonecapsule ? Any suggestions in that category for a project bass that doesnt require 1k$? Thanks man.

I'm looking forward to the mods. I can't help but wonder if those pickup covers are muffling the sound just like a neck pickup on a tele does with that metal cover. Remove the covers or even cooler would be to put those Gretch accutronic covers could help and give it a very distinctive look.

Would instantly buy this as a mod platform if it came in a medium or even a short scale. All in all this bass seems like a decent bargain and fairly versatile, was pleasantly surprised with the slap tone and I dig the bridge pickup soloed. Excited to see if your mods with this one involve splitting the pickups or some kind of series/parallel trickery.

Just want to add that if you compare these Pro Buckers’ sound to your Casady bass, the Pro Buckers are less wooly. If you want to go brighter, then you can check pot values. Put in a 500 k linear taper volume, or a 500 k audio taper tone pot and if that’s not enough,, there’s always a capacitor swap. These are blade style pickups and have incredible capability. Set up with the components to showcase their full potential is key. That’s what customizing does, or should. Bring out the best possible tone. Complaining about it doesn’t prove much; esp. at this price point. Wax potting is known to darken the pickups, and these ARE wax potted. Tune this guy up and it might blow your hair back!
