Update on the situation: I was changing strings and the bridge got ripped out of the body. Second time changing strings too. After getting a replacement with faulty pickups from Sweetwater and then finally a working one, I put some Gotoh tuners on it with a set of Rotosound flats and haven't looked back. Be wary of Epiphone QC, y'all!

Interesting story. Glad you could fix it. I just bought the green one at GC like two days ago on a whim because it was on clearance for $279. I gigged it last night and enjoyed it a lot. I bought the green one (“wanderlust” they call it) on a whim when I found it on clearance for $279 at GC two or three days ago. I played it a while and then switched the stock strings for some EB cobalt flats (i.e., the flats that sound - and practically feel - like rounds) so it wouldn’t immediately lose its “top end sparkle” 😂 (My other basses are strung with LaBella and D’A Chromes. EB cobalts are really an entirely different animal, just FYI.) Last night I took it to the gig, played about half the show with the Epi and half with my usual bass, and liked this one quite well. It’s a little difficult to get a truly convincing “classic country” sound (shouldn’t be according to the specs, but I struggled a bit), but for the rock songs, it killed it. Heavy tone in a very lightweight package. Anyway, that’s my comment. Thanks for this and so many other thorough reviews 🙏🏻 and please do a tuner and bridge swap - and maybe the capacitor/pot swap so many have recommended. TBH, I have no idea what that is or does and would be a little bit afraid of doing the work, BUT zig you walk us through it and it sounds good, I might work up the courage! I wonder what mini clovers would look like on this guy? Hint hint. 😊

Great review. Been eying this bass. I like the old school sound and it should be great for playing some styles. I missed what strings your using? Flats should sound sweet on this. As for tuners, die cast tuners are kind of hit or miss when abusing them. I've beaten the snot out of some and they survived, a few seem to snap just looking at them. Die cast is not inherently bad, its the quality of the casting and the alloy used. My worst luck with tuners were the M4 Schaller tuners on old Kramer Aluminum neck basses. I've snapped a few of those and seen other folks snap them. Those Aluminum necks were so heavy and broke many tuners, and I love Schaller tuners.

Would you reccomend this over the epiphone thunderbird vintage pro(i noticed the vintage pro sounds a bit more trebly like a jazz bass in comparison with the classic pro which has more low end,that i like more)?
@LowEndLobster2 жыл бұрын
I really haven't played either of those Epi T-birds, so I couldn't say. For the price though, the Embassy is a solid bass if you're into the Gibson-y tones.
@johngeddes78942 жыл бұрын
You need to get your hearing checked out. This is a VERY mid-forward sounding bass. The bridge pup is as articulate as a Jazz bass. A nice warm neck pup blends well, and covers the Motown sound in spades. Get ahold of me when you decide to change pickups. I will buy them from you.

Just want to add that if you compare these Pro Buckers’ sound to your Casady bass, the Pro Buckers are less wooly. If you want to go brighter, then you can check pot values. Put in a 500 k linear taper volume, or a 500 k audio taper tone pot and if that’s not enough,, there’s always a capacitor swap. These are blade style pickups and have incredible capability. Set up with the components to showcase their full potential is key. That’s what customizing does, or should. Bring out the best possible tone. Complaining about it doesn’t prove much; esp. at this price point. Wax potting is known to darken the pickups, and these ARE wax potted. Tune this guy up and it might blow your hair back!

Very nice. And super value, for sure. Does anyone know the fretboard radius?

Thanks! Great question - 12" radius

I saw you reviewed both htis and the Stingray 34? Would this be considered to be in the same league as the stingray, for a bass for gigging and recording???

I bought one when they first came out. The red one. Sold it on Craigslist a year later. Could never get the action set right. The bridge caused me issues. Could never get the strings low enough and had minor trouble with neck relief. I’ve set up dozens of brands of basses but this one was tough. Got sick of trying. Plus was never fond of the tone. In a rock band mix my band mates weren’t impressed. And I ran it through a line 6 system. Through subs and mains. Tried tweaking the tone. Meh .. it’s one of those basses that sounds good in your bedroom through headphones but other than that. Yeah. … no

Ciao! Did you have to make any bridge adjustments? I've heard some they the some that came out in 2017 had problems with intonations because of bridge placement!
@LowEndLobster3 жыл бұрын
Ciao Roberto! I didn't have any issues with intonation or setup. It was surprisingly easy, though I do wish we had individual string height control. That being said I was still able to dial this in comfortably.

The tone availability seems to be a bit minimal. Some basic modding will need to be done. $400 price. Easily attainable. Maybe a .1 micro capacitor, Hipshot or Gotoh tuners. Maybe a pickup change to a same look but different wider tone availability set. It doesn't sound like a Tbird. But it's Tbird-esq. Not too many basses have that thunderous Tbird sound.
@Owen-ne6pe3 жыл бұрын
if you use something like a sans amp or pre amp pedal with this bass it really pushes the tonal availability a whole lot imo.

@@rickrolli7091 yeah i didnt think it would make such a difference but i got a behringer bdi21 recently and it made the tonal possibilities way larger in my opinion

@@Owen-ne6pe I agree. Choosing a pickup with the tonal qualities you are looking for, plus the tone you're already receiving out of the instrument will help take you a long ways.

I just got one of these. What kind of flats would you recommend? I'd like to retain as much clarity and articulation as I can, but still have that flat wound sound. With the probucker pickups, I'm concerned about it getting muddy with flats, but I love flats. Any suggestions?
@pearsonusa3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for doing this review. You're right, it is a bit muffled, but it does seem to produce a solid fundamental tone. I'd love to hear it in a mix with other instruments, to hear how it "sits". Also looking forward to what a future mod project might bring to the table.

I had to return mine. bummer... I really like the way it looks but it had really bad fret buzz, not even the G.C. Tech could get rid of the very loud frett buzz....🐝🐝🐝
@sjeffy51372 жыл бұрын
Gonna be honest, I played one of these in guitar centre and it was one of my least favourite instruments that I’ve ever touched (topped only by Jackson’s spectra line). Now this could have been a dud, but the pickups sounded dull and muffled, the pots were scratchy and cheap feeling, and I honestly did not like the neck much. Was not helped by guitar centre’s signature skyscraper action. Again, could have been a dud, but I remember hating this thing with a vengeance.

Aw that's a bummer. This bass (when not setup by GC) is surprisingly capable, but is definitely targeting the 'I want a tbird but dont' want tbird ergonomics' crowd.
@sjeffy51372 жыл бұрын
@@LowEndLobster Ofc, I’ve always loved the tbird looks but have never clicked with the tone and definitely not the ergonomics, really want to try out a Dingwall D-Roc or whatever the sandberg third is called.

The HB is neat but is still a $200 instrument. The Embassy isn't perfect, but for $400 it feels solid and unique compared to other offerings in the price segment.

Hey man I watch your channel all the time. I own a sterling sub 4 and sub 5 and a gretsch shortscale for fun. I want to get rid of the gretsch and buy something to play BEAD preferably with a 1.5 or slimmer p bass width that can handle BEAD sring/set up and be used with my Darkglass 900v2 head, usually fuzz always on. Would you think this would be a good choice for to mod for BEAD or would should I take my sub4 and mod it or get an aerodyne (love the P sound but want jazz neck) or get a classic vibe ? I wanted to maybe try the darkglass tonecapsule ? Any suggestions in that category for a project bass that doesnt require 1k$? Thanks man.

The EMG pickups were sized for the Gibson TB pickups which are ever so slightly bigger. The mod here is on hold but we'll get to it and I still have the bass!
